Samsung Galaxy S3 rooting guide

There are people over at XDA Developers who have given the Samsung Galaxy S3 more love than usual, having discovered a method that allows one to root the Samsung Galaxy S3 in a relatively painless method. Bear in mind that the Samsung Galaxy S3 model that we are talking about here is the SGH-T999 model from T-Mobile, so proceed with caution and make sure you have the right model on hand as well.

Before you continue, here is a quick primer on what rooting is all about. When you root your smartphone or tablet, it will then enable you to make changes, access system files, perform overclocking, as well as launch apps which require root access, in addition to performing far more customizations on your handset compared to the vanilla version of Android.

To date, there were no reports of bugs and issues, so you can most probably heave a sigh of relief if you were to follow the instructions here as you root your Samsung Galaxy S3.

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S3 fail to activate

You know, being an early adopter is always nice and fun, not to mention the bragging rights that come with it, but sometimes, Murphy just decides to strike. Case in point, those who placed their pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S3 a long time ago, having finally received them in their hands today, have reported that these spanking new Android-powered devices were unable to be activated on Verizon’s network.

Perhaps this is a result of the Galaxy S3’s official launch on Verizon’s network which is due to happen in a few days’ time, so the network is just not quite ready for them yet. However, this particular defense does sound rather porous when you consider how there are also folks testing the Galaxy S3 on Verizon’s network itself. For those of you who are subscribed to Big Red and do own a Galaxy S3, which category do you fall under – does your Galaxy S3 work or not? Patience does seem to be the best remedy for those affected.

Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE powered by quad-core Exynos CPU arrives in South Korea on July 9th

If you happen to live in South Korea and are still mulling over whether you want to pick up the Samsung Galaxy S3, be prepared to bring one home when July 9th rolls around on your calendar, as this particular model will be running on a quad-core Exynos processor and will have LTE connectivity. This is slightly different from the ones available in the US, as those available Stateside are powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor.

I guess that the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE model is the only one in the world that will merge both the quad-core Exynos processor that is found in the international model, alongside high speed data, where both “parties” will converge in a marriage of convenience this July 9th. The three carriers indicated by Samsung are SK Telecom, KT and LG U+. The battery maintains a 2,100 mAH charge, coupled with 2GB RAM and DMB TV tuning capability. No idea on whether anyone is going to import this particular model or not, but we do hope to see someone do something about the situation.

Verizon announces the arrival of the Galaxy S3 beginning July 10

Word about the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S3 on Verizon was first heard earlier this month when we received reports that the device will arrive in the 9th of July. A week after, sources from the web said that the arrival of the device is “slightly delayed” and is pushed a day further. Thankfully, our readers were kind enough to tip that the rumored July 10th arrival of the GS3 is actually a “ship-by-date”. Well, it looks like Verizon is finally speaking out.

Via press release, Verizon said that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be available in Verizon stores beginning July 10th. Both the 16GB and 32GB models will be available for $199 and $249 respectively together with a new two-year contract. “Galaxy S3 customers will have access to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network which is available in 304 markets across the United States. Verizon Wireless 4G LTE will be in 400 markets covering 260 million people by the end of this year,” Verizon said.

Samsung Galaxy S3 has S Health personal wellness app

So you have the Samsung Galaxy S3 as your favorite new smartphone, and just exactly what have you done with it – other than to show it off to the rest of your mates? Enter the S Health personal wellness app which is capable of collecting health data of the smartphone owner in order to help you live out a healthier lifestyle. I guess this would mean it is most effective if you are not exactly big on health at this point in your life, where the application itself is compatible with a range of healthcare sensors including blood glucose meters, blood pressure monitors and body composition scales. All your health measurements will be sent automatically to the Galaxy S3 over a Bluetooth or USB connection. (more…)

Sprint gets Samsung Galaxy S3 on store shelves

Sprint has finally made available Samsung’s latest superphone, the Galaxy S3, on their store shelves. You will be able to pick up two flavors to suit your budget and needs – the 16GB and 32GB models can be yours for $199.99 and $249.99, respectively, where they will be accompanied by a new 2-year contract. Depending on your taste, you will be able to select from either Marble White or Pebble Blue shades. Of course, those who prefer to do their shopping online can always do so, or pick up a phone if you want to go through a telesales channel – otherwise, a brick and mortar outlet will also be able to fulfil your want for a new Galaxy S3.

Will you jive with Sprint’s version of the Galaxy S3? Perhaps, but those who want an exclusive red color have no choice but to stick to AT&T – who will not offer a 32GB model, but rather, limit it to just 16GB while making a marketing push for a 16GB microSD memory card for expansion purposes. I say that practicality and everyday use trumps color – what about you?

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port arrives on Samsung Galaxy S3

Don’t you think it makes sense for the latest, most powerful Android-powered smartphone from Samsung to feature the latest operating system version from Google? Many people think so, too, and after having an unofficial ROM ported over the Galaxy Nexus, here we are with an unofficial port of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean port for the Samsung Galaxy S3. This applies for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, although there are a fair number of features that do not work – such as Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth and NFC support, the audio system, a camera tha fails to snap photos, and inability to detect the internal storage space. Would you be willing to sacrifice all of that for a premature taste of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean before the official version arrives? There really isn’t any point in installing it though for all practical intents and purposes, but if you are curious enough, then go ahead.

Verizon to ship Galaxy S3 by July 12

Verizon might say that they will be shipping the Samsung Galaxy S3 by July 11 (earlier reports point to a couple of days prior), although it seems that there is a last minute decision to release the latest Android-powered smartphone from Samsung a good 24 hours later – which would be July 12, at least according to HHGregg as you can see by the screenshot above. After all, Verizon has a penchant for rolling out devices on Thursdays, so it makes perfect sense if this were to be the case. HHGregg does seem as though they will sell the 16GB version of the new Galaxy S3 only, where it will of course retail for the standard $199.99 alongside a new 2-year contract. Verizon will carry the 32GB model just in case you feel that you need more disposable storage space on hand, and will slap a $249.99 price for it. Are you looking forward to the Samsung Galaxy S3 to be part of your latest smartphone arsenal, or are you waiting impatiently for the next generation iPhone from Apple to hit the market?
