Samsung Galaxy S4 Can Be Repaired Very Easily

Samsung Galaxy S4 Can Be Repaired Very Easily

A teardown video received by the folks over at TechnoBuffalo shows the Samsung Galaxy S4 being torn apart. The device is yet to be released, somehow the source has access to a unit and has graciously taped this teardown video for all to see. The conclusion is that Samsung Galaxy S4 is surprisingly easy to repair, as opposed to its rivals such as the iPhone 5, which isn’t exactly that easy to repair.

9 screws have to be removed before the front and back of the S4 can be separated. The source claims its easier to fix Galaxy S4 than it was to fix Galaxy S III. That’s because several components, including SIM slot, camera module, microUSB slot etc, are very easy to replace. The only problems with regards to repairability might be presented by the Gorilla Glass display. If the screen shatters , replacing the Gorilla Glass could cost over $200. Regardless of this single caveat, the source calls Galaxy S4 the “most repairable smartphone” that they have ever worked on. Does being easy to repair earn Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone brownie points in your book? You can check out the teardown video by hitting the source link below.

LookAway Player Brings Samsung’s Smart Pause To The iPhone

LookAway Player Brings Samsungs Smart Pause To The iPhone

Smart Pause is one of the many features in Galaxy S4 that Samsung boasted about. Before the release of Samsung’s latest Android plagship smartphone, it was believed that Smart Pause would employ the use of eye-tracking to pause content when the user look away. The feature does that, but through facial recognition. LookAway Player for iPhone brings Smart Pause like functionality to the iPhone, which by default does not have any such feature.

LookAway Player is an app for watching videos on YouTube, though it comes with two features that make it a lot interesting. First there’s the LookAway feature, aptly named, it pauses any playing video whenever the viewer turns the head away from the iPhone. The feature uses facial recognition to determine when the viewer has looked away. Then there’s the Shh feature, which automatically mutes audio when the view makes a shush-ing sound. The app is available to download right now from iTunes App Store, it is available for free. Early customer reviews are full of praises for the app, do check it out and let us know what you think about it. Is Smart Pause like functionality really of any use or is it just a novelty?

Samsung Explains What You May Not Know About Galaxy S4

Samsung Explains What You May Not Know About Galaxy S4

Last month Samsung announced the Galaxy S4, its latest flagship Android smartphone, at a flamboyant event that took place in the Radio City Music Hall in New York. The smartphone is yet to be released to the public, but it has garnered quite a lot of interest  In a bid to shore up some more, Samsung today posted an infographic detailing technology which exists in the S4, that users may not know about. The infographic is solely focused to the nine sensors which Samsung is calling the “hidden innovation in the Galaxy S4.”

Samsung believes that users may be fascinated by the smartphone’s large display and battery capacity that has been tucked away in a light and slim body, so much so that they’ll probably not figure out about the nine sensors and “a wide array of recognition technologies” that understand user behavior and make Galaxy S4 such a joy to use. The infographic posted above gives detailed information about the RGB light sensor, Hall sensor, Barometer, Temperature/Humidity sensor, Accelerometer, Gyro sensor, Geomagnetic sensor, Proximity sensor and the Gesture sensor. Go on, give it a read!

Samsung Galaxy S4 Commercials Highlights Hardware, Software

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is slowly making its way to U.S. carriers in the coming weeks as a number of them have already started slashing the price of their in-stock Galaxy S3s in preparation, and today, we’re starting to see a number of commercials starting to roll out promoting the “next big thing.”

The 60-second U.K. ad focuses primarily on the Samsung Galaxy S4′s hardware by showcasing the device in many, many, many angles with extremely dramatic music playing in the background. Once the introduction of the product is over, Samsung highlights a number of the Galaxy S4′s features such as its dual-shot mode where you could throw your face anywhere within a photo by using both of its rear-facing and front-facing cameras. They also highlight the S4′s Air View and its Photo Album. (more…)

Samsung launches GALAXY S 4 TV ads showcasing features

Samsung’s GALAXY S 4 is quickly approaching, and it’s expected to launch at the beginning of next month, with pre-orders starting later this month. In the meantime, Samsung is prepping to launch a television ad campaign for the new phone. Several television commercials have popped up on Samsung Netherlands’ YouTube channel, showing off some of the device’s new features.

There’s three ad spots in the total, all of which are roughly just over 30 seconds long. The first one we see shows off the GALAXY S 4′s “Sound Shot” feature, which allows users to take a picture as well as record surrounding noise in order to give the photo more life and energy. Plus, it makes it feel like you’re actually there.

The second features shown off in the series of commercials is “Group Play,” which allows GALAXY S 4 users to share a song with other GALAXY S 4 users over a wireless connection. However, this method involves turning multiple phones into more speakers, allowing for louder playback of a song, since a single phone can’t output loud volumes all too well.

Lastly, Samsung shows off its S Translater app, which lets users who travel abroad communicate with the locals in the area without needing to know the native language. The feature lets users talk into the phone, and it will repeat the phrase back in a different language. It should definitely come in handy for all the globe trotters out there.

Android Central also got a hold of a one-minute-long GALAXY S 4 commercial that’s a bit different than the three ads above. This one guides you through some of the features of the phone, as well as showing off the exterior and the vivid colors that the display can produce. This ad spot hasn’t been uploaded by Samsung yet, but we should be seeing it show up fairly soon.

Verizon Slashes Samsung Galaxy S3 Price Before Galaxy S4 Announcement

Verizon Slashes Samsung Galaxy S3 Price Before Galaxy S4 Announcement

We already saw the price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 drop on AT&T earlier this month in preparation of the Galaxy S4′s launch, but today, we’re seeing another wireless carrier in the U.S. announce it has started to drop the price of the smartphone as well.

Verizon Wireless has now also dropped the price of the Samsung Galaxy S3 to $99 with a two-year contract, which we suspect is due to the Galaxy S4′s upcoming arrival, although the carrier has yet to acknowledge the device will be available on their network. At this point, the only U.S. carriers that have confirmed they will be carrying the Galaxy S4 has been AT&T and T-Mobile, although neither company has announced when they’ll be available. (more…)

Early Samsung Galaxy S4 Benchmarks Shows The Exynos Variant Outperforming The Qualcomm Model

Early Samsung Galaxy S4 Benchmarks Shows The Exynos Variant Outperforming The Qualcomm ModelWe’re sure that some would-be Samsung Galaxy S4 owners are going to be a bit miffed that they will not be enjoying Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa-core processor as their region will be getting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 instead. While the Snapdragon 600 is a powerful chipset in its own right, some early benchmark tests have been conducted and it seems that the Exynos chipset is blowing the Snapdragon 600 out of the water. According to the folks at SamMobile, their insider has provided them with AnTuTu benchmark results of the GT-i9500, the Galaxy S4 with the Exynos chipset on board and according to the results, it scored an impressive 28,018 points. This is compared to the GT-i9505, the Qualcomm variant, which scored 23,607.

SamMobile expects that the Korean version of the Galaxy S4, the SHV-E300S to score even higher, possibly over 30,000 points, but we guess we will have to wait and see if those benchmarks indeed prove that. In any case considering that both phones are already pretty powerful to begin with, the average user probably won’t be able to tell the difference between the Exynos version and Qualcomm version of the phone, although on paper it might seem like they are getting a worse deal. However since we cannot verify the details of these benchmarks ourselves, we don’t blame you if you wish to remain skeptical, and fret not because we will be testing the phone ourselves once we get our hands on a unit to review.

Samsung kicks off Galaxy S4 ad campaign with new TV spots, focus on features

Samsung kicks off Galaxy S4 ad campaign with new TV spots, focus on features

We may still not have exact launch dates for the Galaxy S4 on all carriers, but the launch is approaching — and with it, Samsung’s latest big ad campaign. From the looks of the first few TV spots, the company is staying away from any shots at its rivals or celebrity appearances (at least for now), focusing instead on some of the new features of the smartphone; Sound Shot, Group Play and S Translator all get their own 30 second ads, while another minute-long commercial (appearing in at least in the UK) offers a more general and suitably dramatic overview of the phone. There’s no word yet on exactly how big a push Samsung will be making with the new ad campaign, but it’s pretty safe to bet you’ll be seeing lots of these in the months ahead.

Qualcomm Version Of The Samsung Galaxy S4 Reportedly Rooted As Well

Qualcomm Version Of The Samsung Galaxy S4 Reportedly Rooted As WellA few days ago, we reported that according to posts on the XDA Developers forum that the Samsung Galaxy S4 might have actually been rooted ahead of its release. However since we do not have the phone ourselves, and since there is a lack of proof over these claims, Samsung developer and root specialist, Chainfire, took to his Google+ account to announce that he believed that the Galaxy S4 still remains unrooted due to the lack of evidence over the previous claims. Whether the previous claim was a fake or not we guess we won’t be able to tell, but in the meantime Chainfire has announced that the Qualcomm version of the Galaxy S4 (GT-i9505) has been rooted and has uploaded the necessary files for users to download should they wish to root their Galaxy S4s themselves.

Unfortunately we can’t tell if the firmware used to test this root process is that of the final release, or if it might be an earlier build, so once again there’s no telling if this version will be successful. In any case like we said, this root process is for the Qualcomm version while the previous one, whether real or fake, was for the Exynos version of the device. As usual, those interested will have to proceed at their own risk, but as a word of caution, always remember to follow the instructions to the letter and make sure to back up your data before proceeding!

Samsung Opening Experience Shops Within Best Buy Starting April 8

Just last week, Samsung announced it is partnering with Best Buy to inject smaller shops inside of their stores to help educate shoppers of Samsung’s products, although at this point, we’re pretty sure you’re very familiar with the company and their offerings in the tech space. It looks as though Samsung wasted no time getting them set up as the company announced their stores inside of Best Buy will be opening as soon as April 8.

The Samsung mini-stores will showcase and demonstrate its line of consumer products that include smartphones, tablets and televisions. A total of 500 Samsung Experience shops will take approximately 460 square feet of select Best Buy retail stores.
