Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Note III specifications battle: very unofficial

As Samsung gains a whirlwind of attention this week before its big Samsung Galaxy S4 event on the 14th, (one week from today), both the S4 and the Note III have been given some rather impressive unofficial specification sets. The details we’re about to compare are not official and have not been confirmed by Samsung in any way. On the other hand, you can count on most or all of them due to the relatively predictable incremental steps every technology company takes when releasing products in a highly popular brand line.

So you’re planning on deciding between the Samsung Galaxy S IV (or S4, whichever you prefer) and the Samsung Galaxy Note III, yes? They’re going to be exceedingly similar when it comes down to it, their display size and abilities with or without the Samsung S-Pen notwithstanding. So here’s what we’ve got – and remember, all of this is based on tips, leaks, and rumors galore. The details for each of the specifications listed are either listed in the timeline at the end of this post or are brought up with educated guesses on the part of your friends at SlashGear.

Processor Manufacturer

Both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III will quite likely be using the new Samsung Exynos 5 Octa quad-core processor. Note that there will actually be 8 CPU cores here, but that each of the four main cores will be “backed up”, so to speak, by another core for low power tasks. So just as the NVIDIA Tegra 3 and Tegra 4 have five CPU cores, one of them being a sort of “ninja” core for low power tasks, so too is this new Exynos beast for both the Galaxy S4 and Note III.

It’s also important to note that with the Galaxy Note II the same processor was used for all models while the Galaxy S III had Exynos internationally and Qualcomm Snapdragon inside the USA. Because Samsung has come a bit of a way since all the way back when the Galaxy S III was revealed, there’s a chance they’ll be releasing the Galaxy S4 with the same processor worldwide – we shall see!

Camera Power

A back-facing 13 megapixel camera with advanced photography software can be expected on both the Galaxy S IV and the Galaxy Note III. At the moment there’s no reason to believe that the Galaxy Note III will have anything less than the Galaxy S4, and as in the past, we’re not expecting the Note to out-do the S hero in this respect. The front-facing camera will also likely be the same on both devices at 2 megapixels – with 1080p video capabilities on both sides.

S-Pen Functionality

One of the two big differentiators between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note III will be the built-in S-Pen that the Note is known for. We’re expecting abilities advanced beyond what we’ve seen on the Note II, but won’t expect the actual hardware to be much different from what we’ve seen on the Galaxy Note 8.0 just this past month at MWC 2013. Have a peek at our hands-on with the Note 8.0 to grab a bit more insight – one of the biggest changes will be the ability to tap the back and menu buttons off-display with the pen – neat!

Conclusion: we’re all winners!

The big decision you’re going to be making – when it comes down to it again – is how long you’re willing to wait for Samsung’s 2013 vision for the perfect smartphone. You’ve got the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II out on the market already – both of them perfectly capable machines in their own right, but you want to go forth and grab the next big thing. Based on what you see above, expect similar (or identical) features on these devices in the near future when they’re shown off for real – check back a week from now and see how we did!

Samsung Shares Galaxy S4 Event Photos On Its Blog

Samsung Shares Galaxy S4 Event Photos On Its BlogWe’re excited for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and it looks like Samsung is equally excited as well. The South Korean company has updated its blog with photos from New York where one can see many posters of banners presumably related to the Galaxy S4. Samsung is asking us to “Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy” and we promise that we most definitely are! The main question is that with all the hype leading up to the announcement (photo and video teasers), will Samsung be able to deliver a product that meets all the hype and expectations, or will they fall on their face? We’re certainly rooting for the latter, so check back with us on the 14th of March for the details!

In the meantime as a quick recap, rumors of the Galaxy S4 includes a 4.99” Full HD AMOLED display with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 chipset or the Exynos 5 octa-core chipset on board. It is also expected to come with a 13MP camera and features such as Smart Scroll and Smart Pause, and based on leaked screenshots, a new TouchWiz Nature UX 2.0.

American Variant Samsung Galaxy S4 Screenshots Surface, Points At New UI

American Variant Samsung Galaxy S4 Screenshots Surface, Points At New UIIt was just yesterday that we thought that we might have gotten a look at some leaked screenshots that was supposed to belong to the Samsung Galaxy S4. Unfortunately it turned out that those were screenshots for an Android 4.2.1 ROM for the Galaxy S3. Well the good news is that if you’re still hankering for more Galaxy S4 goodies before its official announcement on the 14th of March, GSM-Israel has managed to get their hands on screenshots which they claim belong to the Galaxy S4. Samsung Galaxy S4 screenshots foretell beastly specifications

This week the Samsung Galaxy S4 (or Samsung Galaxy S IV, if you prefer) is getting its fair share of pre-release specification leaks, some of them fake, others exceedingly realistic. The one we’re about to have a peek at seems to our haggard, weathered eyeballs to be almost surprisingly legitimate – pixel sizes of their screenshots included. With this leak comes a selection of screenshots that include specifications from the app Quick System Info PRO – a free app that’ll tell you everything you need to know about your device in a jiffy.

4go

The first mistake several commenters have made already this morning is to decide that the little half-circle tab in the lower left-hand corner of several of the following screenshots is a multi-screen feature in the Galaxy S IV. In fact it’s a tab existing inside the Quick System Info PRO app itself, appearing in any device you open it up with. It does look extremely similar to the tab that appears in the Galaxy Note 2 enabling multiscreen functionality.

firstshot_inside

The information these screenshots provide for us includes a set of specifications that we’ve come across before for this handset as tipped and “leaked” in the past more than once. They are as follows:

• 5-inch Display
• Resolution 1080 x 1920 pixels, 480PPI
• Quad-core processor, ARMv7 1.7Ghz
• 13-megapixel camera (4128 x 3096 pixels, 4:3 aspect ratio)

You’ll also see a couple of “Smart screen” additions like Smart stay, Smart rotation, Smart pause, and Smart scroll. These are outlined again in our post about Smart additions to Samsung’s Jelly Bean.

camraga

If you have a peek at the actual image file of any of the screenshots provided by the source, GSM Israel, you’ll find that the height and width are not 1080 x 1920 – they are, however, a height and width ratio that’s able to be scaled up to that size, meaning whoever uploaded the photos likely simply scaled them down to fit the blog space.

homer

So what we’ve got is a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a few new “smart” features and a top-tier set of specifications in its screen and its processor. It’s still quite likely that we’ll be seeing a Samsung Exynos processor in this device as it appears abroad and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor inside the USA as we did with the Galaxy S III. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note II did come with the same SoC no matter where it was launched – so we’ll see!

have a peek at the timeline below for more information on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and stick with SlashGear for the March 14th event – join us at 6PM EST (or a little earlier if you want to pick your seat) for the whole show!

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S4 Screenshots Reveal Smart Scroll And Smart Pause Features [Updated]

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S4 Screenshots Reveal Smart Scroll And Smart Pause Features [Updated]Earlier this year it was reported that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 could be getting features like Eye Scroll and Eye Pause. For those hearing about this for the first time, these are basically features that allows the user to scroll through pages using their eyes/head movement, while the Pause feature will pause videos when the phone detects your head has moved away from the screen (this is done through the use of the front-facing camera). If you had some skepticism of such features coming to the Galaxy S4, hopefully these newly leaked screenshots will be able to prove otherwise. (more…)

Samsung Galaxy S4 Concept Is A Mashup Of Previous Samsung Devices

We’re sure that some of you guys might have been disappointed to learn that the alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 leak turned out to be a mere mockup. Alternatively given its design, we’re sure that some of you guys also felt a sense of relief. In any case while we will have to wait until the 14th of March to see what the Galaxy S4 will look like, designer Martin Hajek teamed up with the folks at GottaBeMobile to come up with their own concept of the Galaxy S4. This concept is based on the rumors of the Galaxy S4 to date, as well as being based on the previous designs of Samsung’s Galaxy S series of Android smartphones.

We have to admit that based on what we see in the concept, their concept of the Galaxy S4 looks pretty sleek as it merges the design of the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note 8.0. It sports a plastic body which has been confirmed by a Samsung executive, a 4.99” Full HD display, a 13MP camera, a front-facing camera that will be utilized for rumored features like the Eye Scroll, as well as Smart Stay which made its debut in the Galaxy S3. Either way if you have a couple of minutes to spare, check it out in the video above and let us know the comments below on what you think!

Samsung Galaxy S4 Will Feature A Plastic Body, Executive VP Explains Why

Samsung Galaxy S4 Will Feature A Plastic Body, Executive VP Explains WhyRemember the other day when famed blogger Eldar Murtazin came forward and claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would feature a plastic body? Personally I was hoping this wasn’t true, but with the Galaxy S, S2 and S3 all sporting plastic finishes, it was more or less expected. Now according to an interview with CNET, Samsung executive vice president of mobile, Y.H. Lee, came forward and admitted that the Galaxy S4 would be continuing the trend of the plastic body, and at the same time offered an explanation as to why this would be the case. (more…)

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 Leak Turns Out To Be Mockup By Expansys

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 Leak Turns Out To Be Mockup By ExpansysRemember the alleged Samsung Galaxy S4 renderings that were “leaked” yesterday? Well as it turns out, it wasn’t so much a leak but rather a mockup of what the Galaxy S4 might look like, but here’s the kicker, it was a mockup by online UK retailer, Expansys, who claims (via their Twitter account) that @evleaks stole the design from them and added their own logo on it. The tweets (1,2) by @evleaks have since been deleted, indicating that this might be the case.

As far as mockups go, the design was created by the web designer for Expansys and in no way tells what the actual Galaxy S4 looks like, or hints at it. In fact it even reads at the bottom of Expansys’ Galaxy S4 page, “Careful: these are not official characteristics and are subject to change after the official device announcement.” Also based on the design of the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2, we can only assume that the Galaxy S4 will be continuing a more curvy design versus the more boxy one on the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2.

We’re sure that a good many of you guys are bummed by this piece of news, but with the official unveiling a little over a week away (14th of March for those who forgot), we guess you guys won’t have to wait much longer to see the highly-anticipated smartphone in all of its (official) glory.

More Samsung Galaxy S4 Images Leaked

More Samsung Galaxy S4 Images LeakedYou know that the biggest announcement next week is going to concern the Samsung Galaxy S4, so do expect to hear and obviously, see, a whole lot more about the Galaxy S4 in the coming week. Well, normally reliable Twitter tipster @evleaks has just revealed more shots on the Samsung Galaxy S4, which does not really show the physical device itself, although it does depict a distinctly different shape compared to the current flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Other than that, there were other hardware specifications in this apparent placeholder, which indicated the presence of a a 4.99” Super AMOLED display that does Full HD resolution, a 13-megapixel camera located at the back, a choice of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, 2GB RAM and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in tow. Rendered images are fine and nice, but what we really want to check out in the coming week would be a leaked photo of the actual Galaxy S4 itself, in the flesh! Would you be making an upgrade from the Galaxy S3 when the Galaxy S4 arrives?

Samsung Galaxy S4 specifications tease biggest launch in company history

This week we’re seeing more specification theories, leaks, and downright confirmations coming for the Samsung Galaxy S IV (or S4 if you prefer) than this device’s imminent reveal would suggest. The big Samsung “Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy” invites have been dropped and note a March 14th, 2013 event to be held in Times Square, New York City – if that’s not a massive venue, we don’t know what is. We’ll certainly be there with bells on, but before we get there, let’s have a peek at what we might to see!

28200453_VvCjxD-6

With the Samsung Galaxy S III we’re going to see first and foremost a massive 4.99 (or straight up 5) inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. That’s Full HD, if you were wondering, and a pixels per inch ratio that’s on-par with the densest devices on the market today. In contrast you’ll find the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 revealed last week with 189PPI – not too next-level, but still perfectly nice when you’re right up next to it with your face.

gs4-tweet-500x500

Inside you’ll find a real next-level processor in the Exynos 5250. This is Samsung’s quad-core processor -but tips have also suggested that the “OCTA” Exynos processor revealed back during CES 2013 could make its debut here as well. Interestingly enough, we’ve also heard that Qualcomm may be sitting inside. This would follow the trend with the Samsung Galaxy S III working with an Exynos processor outside the USA and Qualcomm taking the reigns inside – here a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC clocked at 1.7Ghz rolling out inside the states.

samsung_unpacked_gs4_march_14_invite-415x500

That same processor exists inside the HTC One revealed less than a month ago. Now we’ve got a real battle on our hands, complete with a 13 megapixel camera on the Galaxy S III to take on the HTC One’s UltraPixel camera technology. The Samsung Galaxy S IV is also being foretold to work with a microSD card slot capable of working with up to 64GB cards and that it’ll be coming in at least two colors: black and white. Of course there will be multiple internal storage size iterations of this device, at least 16, 32, and 64GB versions depending on which carrier you go with – and whatever they offer.

We’ll be having a peek at this device in all its glory soon, and very soon – stick with SlashGear from here until March 14th to see the big bang – and of course afterward when we give it the full once-over in a full review. This device has a lot to live up to, coming after one of the best selling smartphones of all time and continuing the lineup of Samsung’s most successful device ever – get pumped!
