China Mobile Might Launch Samsung’s Flagships Alongside The iPhones

China Mobile Might Launch Samsungs Flagships Alongside The iPhones

It was recently confirmed by China’s official state news agency that China Mobile is going to switch on its commercial 4G service on December 18th. On that day it will also finally launch the new iPhones, over the past few months it has been rumored quite a few times that China Mobile is going to carry both iPhones this year. If reports coming out of China are true, the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s might not be the only TD-LTE capable devices that the world’s largest mobile carrier launches on December 18th. Samsung’s flagship devices might be there to give the iPhones a run for their money.

Local media in China reports that the country’s version of the FCC has approved TD-LTE compatible Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, model numbers GT-I9508C and SM-N9008V respectively. Given the reports that both devices have already received regulatory approval, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if they’re launched alongside the new iPhones on December 18th. China Mobile’s move to carry the iPhones will no doubt be beneficial for Apple, as its iPhones have never before been carried by the world’s largest mobile operator that touts over 750 million subscribers. For consumers, it would be a welcome step, as they get to choose between Android and iOS devices before climbing up the 4G ladder.

Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Stock Android 4.4 Update Available For Manual Download

Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Stock Android 4.4 Update Available For Manual Download

The Google Play Edition variants of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One were released earlier this year, they were said to offer the “Nexus” experience. What this basically means is that both devices run vanilla Android OS and will receive the latest Android updates earlier than the other variants. With Android 4.4 KitKat first being rolled out for Nexus devices and then the Moto X, owners of the Google Play Edition devices had to wait a bit longer than originally anticipated. The update has now been rolled out over-the-air, but if you can’t wait for the OTA notification to drop, the stock Android 4.4 OTA update for Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition is now available for manual download.

OTA updates are rolled out in stages and it may take a while before they become available for each and every user. By downloading the manual update file, users can flash the update themselves, though the procedure is a bit tricky as opposed to OTA updates, which are automatically downloaded and installed on the device itself. Just remember that to flash the firmware, the device must be running a stock build of Android, it must have a stock recovery and that it be unrooted. The firmware file of Android 4.4 update for Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition can be downloaded from here.

iPhone 5c Reportedly Outselling Galaxy S4 In India

iPhone 5c Reportedly Outselling Galaxy S4 In India

There have been a lot of rumors about the iPhone 5c’s performance in various markets around the world. Prior to its release, it was believed that the low cost smartphone would do particularly well in markets such as China and India. However, that didn’t turn out to be true, because the iPhone 5c didn’t turn out to be as low cost as everyone thought it might be. As a result, iPhone 5c sales in those particular markets lagged behind the iPhone 5s, which was an instant hit around the world. Even in India, the iPhone 5s sold out in a couple of days after its launch.

Things seem to have picked up for the “unapologetically plastic” iPhone though. According to local media reports, the iPhone 5c is now outselling Galaxy S4 in the country, this piece of information comes from retailers based in India. This doesn’t come as a surprise though. Apple made a move recently which it should have perhaps made from the get go. It partnered with retailers to launch a smartphone trade-in program through which $200 minimum was being offered to customers who traded their existing smartphones for an iPhone 5c or an iPhone 4S. Retailers claim that iPhone sales have tripled after the trade in program was launched, and that now the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c both are outselling Samsung’s flagship smartphone in India.

Android 4.4 For Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Released

Android 4.4 For Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition ReleasedGood news Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition owners, it looks like if you have a hankering for some Android 4.4 KitKat action, you’re in luck because according to the Android Google+ page, it looks like the update is being rolled out as we speak. This Android 4.4 KitKat update will be rolled out alongside the HTC One Google Play Edition and if these updates are anything like how Google rolls out Android updates for their Nexus devices, expect it to be pushed out in phases that could span days to even weeks before it is your turn.

If anything we suppose this is the benefit of having a Google Play Edition phone which is the next best thing after owning a Nexus device. For those who might have missed the news, the Google Play Editions of the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One are essentially the same devices as their normal counterparts, with the main exception being that they run stock versions of Android as opposed to the skinned versions, like TouchWiz for Samsung and Sense for HTC. While they might not necessarily get the latest updates as quick as Nexus phones, we reckon it’s still fast enough. If you own either device and have received the update, let us know in the comments below!

Samsung Galaxy S4 Gets Alpha CyanogenMod 11 ROM

Samsung Galaxy S4 Gets Alpha CyanogenMod 11 ROMIf there is one drawback to using non-Nexus Android devices is that you’d have to wait a fair bit before the latest build of Android is issued to you. Depending on what’s new in the latest update, this might be a non-issue for you, but for those absolutely have to have the latest build all the time, this can be rather annoying. While we know that the Samsung Galaxy S4 will eventually be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat, thanks to a leaked memo, the good news is that if you’d rather not sit around and wait for it, you’re in luck because it seems that an Alpha version of CyanogenMod 11 (Android 4.4 KitKat) is available for your device.

However just in case the Alpha tag did not already alert you, this is an extremely early build of the ROM which means that there are a lot of features that are still missing from the device, as well as things that might not be working as intended. This means that using it as your daily driver is probably not the best idea. On the other hand if you don’t mind, or just want to see what sort of goodies and new features that will be part of Android 4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy S4, feel free to hit up the XDA Developers forum for the download. Once again we caution you on installing custom ROMs especially if you don’t know what you’re doing, so proceed at your own risk, and always be sure to make backups before doing so!

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Temporarily Halted

Samsung Galaxy S4 owners who chose AT&T as their carrier of choice were probably extremely happy to see the carrier began rolling out Android 4.3 onto handsets. AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Released

    AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update Released

Late last month both Verizon and Sprint rolled out the Android 4.3 update for their variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and now its AT&T’s turn. That’s right, the AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update has finally been released today. Samsung started rolling out the update to the international variant in mid-October, carrier branded variants usually have to wait a little longer. The update will no doubt please Galaxy S4 owners on AT&T, even though this isn’t the latest release, Android 4.4 KitKat has grabbed the spotlight now.

The AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update brings a number of new features, including support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch as well as the Samsung Knox enterprise security suite. The update, build JSS15J.1337UCUEMJ9, is a whopping 719 MB, so make sure you’re connected to a decent Wi-Fi network before downloading it. Since it is rolled out over the air, the update can be downloaded and installed on the device itself, no need to hook it up to a computer. Its best to update to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right now, given the fact that it will take quite a while before Android 4.4 KitKat is released for Samsung’s flagship smartphone. Hopefully this release won’t be as bug-infested as Android 4.3 for Galaxy S3.
