This probably won’t surprise a lot of people. Word on the street is that Samsung is also preparing multiple variants of its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. The company has already sent out invites for its Unpacked 5 event, which is presumably where the Galaxy S5 will finally be unveiled to the public. Last year the Galaxy S4 was followed up by a few variants, which looked a lot like the flagship, but offered varying specifications. The company is expected to go down the same road again this year, by releasing multiple Galaxy S5 variants after the flagship hits the market.

Samsung is expected to unveil its next generation Galaxy flagship smartphone within the coming weeks, presumably it will lift the wraps off of Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. As always, the company is also expected to show off some new software at the event. Improved software features and apps have become a staple at these unveilings. Purported screenshots of a new Samsung S Health app have leaked online, it is believed that the app may debut on Galaxy S5.

While the visual changes aren’t as radical as one might hoped, these screenshots show off a much more flatter user interface that’s inline with the updated design guidelines from Google for Android 4.4 KitKat. The new S Health app may also come with new features, including one to view location on a map and control music on one single screen even while the user is either walking or running. Another app Samsung is expected to highlight at the Galaxy S5 announcement is “Life Times,” which is presumably an app that functions as a diary of sorts. It will apparently be capable of collecting information about the user based on other apps they use as well as any events that might be scheduled. Basically Life Times would be a journal that automatically logs photos and vacations, that’s just one scenario, it isn’t entirely clear right now what this app is truly capable of doing. Galaxy S5 builds up on its predecessor, the Galaxy S4

The new year is well underway and we’re excited for all the amazing new technology that will be released in the coming months. For the past few weeks there has been an endless stream of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Korean manufacturer’s next generation flagship smartphone. Last year it was rumored that perhaps Samsung will release this device earlier than originally planned to make up for disappointing Galaxy S4 sales, which is probably why it is believed that Galaxy S5 will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2014 next month. Last year, despite rumors, Galaxy S4 was absent from MWC 2013. It was unveiled on March 14th. While the release date might not be confirmed, this is probably the right time to craft together a Galaxy S5 rumor roundup, just so you’re up to speed on what to expect from the next flagship.

Will the Samsung Galaxy S5 come with a fingerprint scanner, something along the lines of TouchID found on the iPhone 5s? Well thanks to a recent post by the ever reliable @evleaks, the good news is that if you’re a fan of biometric protection, you might find one in the Samsung Galaxy S5. @evleaks has posted what appears to be some kind of screenshot of a file that has been titled “FingerprintService.apk” which he claims to have originated from the Samsung Galaxy S5. Of course it does not take a photoshop master to recreate something similar, but given @evleaks’ track record to date, his information could be seen as more reliable than most.

In any case @evleaks’ post only goes on to corroborate earlier rumors that suggested that a fingerprint scanner could be part of the Galaxy S5. In fact if anything, it feels like the Galaxy S5 could be a very sensor-heavy handset as we have heard that Samsung could be incorporating better hand-based gestures as well. It was originally rumored that the Galaxy S5 could feature an eye scanner but apparently those rumors have since been debunked. In any case as with all rumors, take it with a grain of salt for now, but who’s excited to see fingerprint technology make its way into the Galaxy S5?

Its not like there’s any shortage of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5, but can expect to be treated to new rumors each and every day until the smartphone is official. It might take a while before that happens, the company is expected to make an announcement at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month, though that too is yet to be confirmed. Previous display rumors have hinted at a possible QHD resolution, but today a contradictory Galaxy S5 display rumor begs us to consider the possibility of Samsung’s next smartphone having a 1080p display instead. Don’t confuse QHD with qHD, they’re both totally different, 540×960 pixel resolution is qHD, which we can rule out for Galaxy S5.
