Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Use Sharp’s LTPS LCD Displays Instead Of AMOLED

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Use Sharps LTPS LCD Displays Instead Of AMOLEDIf there’s one thing we can be pretty certain about, is that Samsung’s flagship products will typically use the South Korean company’s AMOLED displays. After all what better way to show off your own technology, right? Interestingly enough thanks a new rumor that has surfaced, it seems that with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, word on the street has it that Samsung might turn to Sharp for their displays, as opposed to using their own AMOLED panels which is typically the case and more or less to be expected from them. This rumor comes from Tencent who claims that Sharp could be the one to provide Samsung with LTPS LCD displays.

So why turn to Sharp when Samsung can easily make their own display panels? Well as it turns out, Samsung is having a hard time manufacturing 2K AMOLED displays that were rumored to be part of the Galaxy S5, and also because the company is apparently trying to focus on bringing more flexible displays into the market, meaning that their efforts could be focused elsewhere. Given that Samsung has invested into Sharp, we guess Samsung could be taking advantage of their investment by getting Sharp to manufacture their displays for them. It is unclear how much of a difference Sharps’ LTPS LCD displays will compare to Samsung’s AMOLED, but we guess we will have to wait and find out, which will be at MWC 2014 if the rumors are to be believed.

Samsung Galaxy S5 And Galaxy Note 4 Concepts

Samsung Galaxy S5 And Galaxy Note 4 Concepts It has been “confirmed” not too long ago that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be making its way to MWC that is happening in Barcelona later next month. Well, having said that, it was also recently that Samsung has submitted yet another design patent which first saw light in August last year. Originally speculated to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 3’s design, it was no longer the case when the actual Galaxy Note 3 was introduced recently. Hence, what we see above could very well be the next generation of the Galaxy S series, which is the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as the Galaxy Note 4 by extension.

What you see above happens to be the design based on the patent applications that were given some creative injection thanks to a certain Ivo Maric, having come up with such a concept. Similar to the sketches in the patent application, Maric’s smartphone or phablet would include a curved display on each side of the device. Just bear in mind that conceptual models would remain just that, a concept, until the real deal is released. All in all, we should expect the Galaxy S5 as well as the Galaxy Note 4 to be revealed to the masses later this year.

Galaxy S5 Launch At MWC 2014 ‘Confirmed’ By Samsung Executive

Galaxy S5 Launch At MWC 2014 Confirmed By Samsung Executive

Last year it was reported multiple times that due to disappointing sales of the Galaxy S4, Samsung has decided to launch Galaxy S5 earlier than originally planned. Some rumors even pegged the launch for January 2014. There have been conflicting rumors about a possible Galaxy S5 release date, and the latest from Korean publication inews24 offers a new timeframe. This publication claims to have heard from Samsung executive Dong-hoon Chang that the company is going to launch Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month.

Mr. Chang is currently the executive vice president and head of the design team at Samsung’s IT & Mobile Communications Division as well as the Head of Design Strategy Team at Samsung Electronics’ Corporate Design Center. He is certainly a high level executive, and it seems a bit odd that someone in his position is “confirming” the launch of this year’s flagship smartphone even before the company has made an official announcement. So its best to take this report with a grain of salt. The report also claims that Galaxy S5 might not be the final moniker for this device, which implies that perhaps Samsung has a new moniker in mind for its 2014 flagship smartphone. As always, Samsung has not commented on rumors about the Galaxy S5. MWC 2014 kicks off on February 24th, so we’ll know for sure then.

Samsung’s Metal Smartphone Rumored To Launch With Galaxy S5

Samsungs Metal Smartphone Rumored To Launch With Galaxy S5

Time and again it has been rumored that Samsung is working on a smartphone that will tout a metal body. Initially it was believed that the Galaxy S5 will have a metal body, but rumor has it that Samsung is going to stick with plastic this time around as well. It is believed that the company is developing a premium line of smartphones under the Galaxy F branding which will feature a metal build. As per the latest reports coming in from Korea, it is likely that the company might launch two smartphones together in 2014, the Galaxy S5 as well as the premium Galaxy F smartphone.

There’s obviously no confirmation from Samsung at this point in time, so these rumors should still be taken with a grain of salt. It is claimed that Samsung expanded its manufacturing operations to Vietnam just to build metal smartphones, which is why some believe none of the company’s usual partners are involved in this project. It isn’t known when the Galaxy S5 is due, rumor has it that the smartphone might be released earlier than originally planned. This is certainly not the last time we will be hearing about Samsung’s metal smartphone, but right now its too soon to be absolutely sure that its on the cards for 2014.

Samsung Reportedly Developing New LPDDR4 RAM Chip, Could Debut In Galaxy S5

Samsung Reportedly Developing New LPDDR4 RAM Chip, Could Debut In Galaxy S5In the computing world, more RAM isn’t a bad since it allows your computer to run smoother. However when it comes to mobile phones, while more RAM can’t hurt, is it truly necessary? It would seem as though our smartphones these days are catching up in terms of hardware to computers and if the reports are to be believed, there is a chance that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 could feature a whopping 4GB of RAM as part of its hardware. According to ZDNet Korea, Samsung is expected to begin production of its 8Gb LPDDR4 chip sometime in 2014, which has led to speculation that if the production could be completed on time, there is a good chance it could debut in the Galaxy S5.

As it stands we have been hearing a lot of rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5 these days. Last we heard Samsung could adopt a 5.25” QHD display and also a metal body which is a nice change of pace from the plastic material Samsung typically favors. Samsung has also recently teased a possible Exynos announcement for CES 2014, which some believe could be about a new 64-bit Exynos chipset which would compete with the likes of Apple’s own 64-bit chipset, the A7. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Is 4GB of RAM really necessary in our smartphones these days? Or do you feel like it might be overkill?

Samsung Reportedly Mass Producing 5.25 Inch AMOLED Panels For Galaxy S5

Samsung Reportedly Mass Producing 5.25 Inch AMOLED Panels For Galaxy S5

Its not like there hasn’t already been much talk about the upcoming flagship Galaxy smartphone from Samsung. The company is expected to release the Galaxy S5 earlier than originally planned next year, some believe that the announcement might be made as soon as January. There has been a lot of debate about the specifications its supposed to tout, we have heard conflicting reports about its display. As per the latest coming in from local Korean media, the company has reportedly started mass producing 5.25 inch AMOLED panels for the Galaxy S5 which boast an impressive 2,560×1,440 pixel resolution.

While not as pure like the RGB layout used in LCD screens, these panels reportedly use the “diamond” pixel arrangement that we first saw in the Galaxy S4 and later in the Galaxy Note 3. This pixel arrangement is much better and more preferred than the “pentile” arrangement seen in Galaxy S3. The display itself is said to have a pixel density of 559 ppi, much more that its current rivals. A number of manufacturers are expected to offer 2,560×1,440 displays in their flagships next year, Samsung just might end up leading the pack. It should be kept in mind that there’s no confirmation from Samsung as yet on the Galaxy S5, so these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Not Featured Curved Display [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Not Featured Curved Display [Rumor]We have been hearing a fair bit of rumors regarding the Samsung Galaxy S5, and unsurprisingly so given that we’re approaching that time where Samsung is expected to make an announcement of sorts. According to the latest rumor, it seems that if you were hoping that Galaxy S5 to adopt a curved display similar to that of the Galaxy Round, you could be disappointed as sources claim that Samsung is highly unlike to adopt the Youm technology for its next-gen flagship device amidst reports that there is insufficient production capacity. We would have thought it is because curved displays at the moment couldn’t feature high resolutions, but we suppose that could be a valid reason as well.

So far we have heard how the Samsung Galaxy S5 may or may not adopt a metal body, and how the phone could even adopt a Super AMOLED display with 2K resolution, giving it an impressive pixel density of 560ppi. Of course all of this are rumors for now, so take it with a grain of salt. Still no word on when Samsung plans to announce said device, but rumors have pegged MWC 2014 as a possible candidate, while other rumors are claiming sometime in April. Either way we’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled, but in the meantime what do you guys think? Is it that big of a deal if the Galaxy S5 skips on the curved display?

Having said that, we have seen our fair share of rumors concerning a possible Galaxy S4 successor, which will no doubt be the Samsung Galaxy S5 if there is going to be a name attached to it. In fact, what could very well be the Samsung Galaxy S5, sporting the model number SM-G900F, has appeared in more benchmarks, with the latest “appearance” hailing from the AnTuTu team.

In the leaked benchmarks, the SM-G900F was caught running on a Snapdragon 800 chipset that will be accompanied by 3GB RAM, which is similar to the recently introduced Galaxy J, albeit with a revised Snapdragon 800 chipset, known as the 8974AC. AT&T Galaxy S5 SM-G900A Reportedly Being Tested

AT&T Galaxy S5 SM G900A Reportedly Being Tested

If the latest rumor is to be believed, the second largest mobile carrier in the U.S. has already started testing its particular variant of Samsung’s next generation Galaxy smartphone, the much awaited Galaxy S5. It should be kept in mind that the company is expected to release the Galaxy S5 earlier than originally planned, which means that this is the correct timeframe for a carrier to start testing its variant. However there is the possibility that AT&T might not be testing its variant, after all it hasn’t been officially confirmed that the Galaxy S5 release date has been pushed forward.

AT&T’s Galaxy S5 is said to carry the SM-G900A model number, SM-G900S and SM-G900F have already been spotted, they could simply be different models or different variants. As far as the device itself is concerned, the Galaxy S5 is expected to tout a 2,560×1,440 pixel resolution QHD display, a 64-bit Exynos processor, 16 megapixel rear camera, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat. It was initially believed that Galaxy S5 will come with a metal chassis, but recent rumors suggest that Samsung might end up sticking with plastic after all. The rumor about AT&T testing its variant of the Galaxy S5 comes from serial Twitter leaker @evleaks, who has a credible track record when it comes to these things.

Samsung Might Not Adopt Metal For Galaxy S5 [Rumor]

Samsung Might Not Adopt Metal For Galaxy S5 [Rumor]

Rumors about the flagship Galaxy smartphone that Samsung is due to release next year picked up when it was first speculated that the Galaxy S5 might actually be released earlier than originally planned. Since then there has been a lot of talk about what the next generation Galaxy smartphone will tout. Most people believe that the company might finally give up the use of plastic and go with a metal chassis for the Galaxy S5. Perhaps that might not happen, because according to Digitimes, the manufacturers expected to make this metal chassis have not started mass production for Samsung as yet.

As per the publication’s supply chain sources, Samsung is apparently still pondering over the question of whether or not it should go with a metal chassis for the Galaxy S5. The sources also claim that it is “unnecessary” for Samsung to go down this road given the fact that it has risen to the top as the largest smartphone vendor in the world primarily due to the success of its plastic boasting mobile devices, whereas switching to metal will increase its production costs. It is rumored that Samsung might adopt materials such as fiberglass/plastic or carbon fiber/plastic for smartphones, but there’s no definitive answer as yet if Galaxy S5 will sport a metal chassis or not. As always, Samsung is mum on the rumors about its future products.
