Galaxy S5 Launch At MWC 2014 Possible [Rumor]

Galaxy S5 Launch At MWC 2014 Possible [Rumor]

We’re still a couple of months away from the Mobile World Congress 2014 but already rumors have started circulating about when we can expect to be announced at the event. It has already been said that Samsung is likely to release its flagship Galaxy smartphone earlier than originally planned in 2014, so some believe that an announcement at MWC 2014 is possible. According to reports coming in from Korea, Samsung is working on a smartphone with a 2,560×1,440 QHD display and an eye scanner which is going to be announced at MWC next year. The Galaxy S5 is rumored to have both the QHD display and the eye scanner.

The display would award some serious bragging rights to Samsung if its able to get its new device out first, there aren’t a lot of manufacturers right now who have QHD display touting smartphones. Chinese manufacturer Vivo’s Xplay 3S is expected to become the first smartphone with such a display panel, however it doesn’t have a global presence like Samsung. The eye scanner is supposed to do pretty much what the name suggests, allow people access to the device based on a match of the iris. According to a number of rumors, the salient features of Galaxy S5 will include the eye scanner and the 2,560×1,440 display. Only time will tell if an announcement is going to be made at MWC 2014, best thing to do right now is wait.

Samsung Has Reportedly Integrated Its Wireless And Camera Divisions

Samsung Has Reportedly Integrated Its Wireless And Camera Divisions

Samsung makes some of the most sought after mobile devices on the market, however its camera offerings have not been completely at par with its rivals. A number of devices released this year came with optical image stabilization, whereas no Samsung device offered OIS despite countless rumors. Apart from that, the camera modules in its devices have received glowing reviews. One might expect Samsung’s camera offerings to get better over time, because if one is to believe reports coming in from Korea, the company has integrated its wireless and camera divisions.

What this means that Samsung’s camera division and its phone making division will now work directly with each other, so they’ll be able to work better as both divisions will be able to fully cooperate with each other. A Samsung official has been quoted in a local media report as saying that the “brand, sales, networks, software competency and manufacturing competitiveness of the wireless business division” will be integrated with the technical prowess of the camera division, which would result in competency for differentiating the company’s smartphones. Even if Samsung really has integrated these two divisions, and if the local media reports are true, then we’re likely to see improvements in the future. However, given the scale of an integration like this, its unlikely that any major results can be achieved in the very near future. So its likely that the Galaxy S5 might not have optical image stabilization after all.

Galaxy S5 And Galaxy Note 4 Might Have PLS LCD Displays

Galaxy S5 And Galaxy Note 4 Might Have PLS LCD Displays

There has already been a lot of speculation about the flagship devices that Samsung is due to release in 2014. The company is expected to release Galaxy S5 ahead of schedule, and already we have heard quite a bit about what its likely to tout under the hood. Apart from the rumors of a 64-bit Exynos 6 processor and a 20 megapixel camera, a latest one coming out of Korea suggests that Samsung might not use AMOLED panels for next year’s flagship. In fact, the company is rumored to use PLS LCD displays for both the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 4.

The company is apparently making this decision so as to reduce production costs by as much as 20 percent. PLS LCD panels are already used in a number of Samsung devices such as the Nexus 10 and Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets. It remains to be seen how consumers will react to this decision, that is if Samsung decides to stick with it and opt for PLS LCD displays. OLED displays are no doubt one of the biggest selling points of the high-end flagship Galaxy devices. On the other hand, recent rumors about the Galaxy S5 display suggest that it will tout a 2K resolution. So this is far from being confirmed at this stage, and with no official statement from Samsung itself, its best to take such rumors with a grain of salt.

Samsung SM-G900F Shows Up In Shipping Manifest

Samsung SM G900F Shows Up In Shipping ManifestEarlier we had reported that Samsung could be working a high-end range of handsets that would fall under its Galaxy F lineup, and coincidentally enough, a certain Samsung SM-G900F has shown up in shipping manifests. Given the earlier Galaxy F rumors, it would seem as though the “F” in the model number is more than a happy coincidence. While it is unclear as to what the SM-G900F could be, the fact that its model number is similar to the earlier reported SM-G900S, save for the last letter, it has been speculated that this could be another variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5, perhaps a more high-end version.

According to the folks at SamMobile, they are speculating that perhaps the SM-G900S could be the faux leather Galaxy S5, while the SM-G900F could be the higher-end metal version of the Galaxy S5 whose alleged metallic frame was leaked not too long ago. However like we said this is purely speculation at this point in time, and for all we know the SM-G900F could be the same Galaxy S5 device, just destined for a different market, just like how the major carriers in the US have different model names for the same device. In the meantime what do you guys think? Could we be looking at higher and lower-end Galaxy S5 handsets, like what Apple did with the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Apparently Pegged For April 2014

Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Apparently Pegged For April 2014

It has been rumored a few times now that Samsung has made up its mind to release Galaxy S5 earlier than originally planned. It was said that the Korean manufacturer has made this decision because Galaxy S4 has not met its internal sales targets. While Samsung is yet to officially confirm anything about its flagship smartphone plans for 2014, famed technology reporter Eldar Murtazin claims that rumors of Galaxy S5 releasing in Q1, 2014 are false. According to him, next year’s flagship Galaxy smartphone will be released in April.

Murtazin’s timeline falls within the timeframe Samsung was initially believed to release Galaxy S5 in. He also says that the company is currently working on the premium smartphone we keep hearing about, but it hasn’t shown the device to its carrier partners as yet. It can’t be said for sure right now when that particular smartphone is going to be released. As per recent rumors, the Galaxy S5 might have a 64-bit Exynos processor, 5 inch flexible 2K display, a 20 megapixel camera, an eye scanner as well as a body fashioned out of metal. While Murtazin dashes hopes of an early Galaxy S5 release, he does say that the Galaxy Note 4 might release earlier than expected, in 2014. Since no official confirmation has come in from Samsung as yet, its best to take these predictions with a grain of salt.

Samsung Patent Might Hint At Galaxy S5′s Design

Samsung Patent Might Hint At Galaxy S5s DesignWhile we have been hearing a lot of Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors these days, if there’s one thing we still don’t about the phone is how it might look like. The rumors have suggested a metal body and a recently leaked photo showed off its alleged metal frame, and thanks to a recent patent by Samsung, perhaps the patent in question might clue us in to how the Galaxy S5 would look like. The photo above is the sketch of the design that Samsung had recently patented, although there’s no telling if this design might be used for the Galaxy S5 or another device, but some have speculated that it could be Galaxy S5-related.

In any case the patent describes a phone which looks thin at the sides, but sports an interesting bulge at the back. We’re not sure if in real life the phone would actually be thinner or thicker than previous Galaxy S devices, but it is certainly interesting and would be a departure from the phones that Samsung has released in the past. The ports on the phone have also shifted, with the USB and headphone jack now placed at the bottom of the device, rather than at the tops or the sides, but apart from that not much else is known. This is only speculation for now, but what do you guys think? Is this a design you could get on board with?

Samsung SM-G900S Spotted In Benchmarks, Could Be The Galaxy S5

Samsung SM G900S Spotted In Benchmarks, Could Be The Galaxy S5We have heard rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S5, and given the success of the previous Galaxy S devices, it does not come as a surprise that Samsung would be looking to create another successor in their highly successful lineup of Android smartphones. Thanks to a sighting on GFXBench, a certain Samsung SM-G900S has made an appearance which has led to speculation that perhaps the device could be the Galaxy Round’s successor, or it could be the Galaxy S5.

It seems more than likely that it could be the Galaxy S5, or at least another high-end device from Samsung, namely thanks to its display which is set at 2560×1440. Given that curved displays can only go up to 720p HD at the moment, chances are this will not be the Galaxy Round 2. In fact that particular resolution is what the Galaxy S5 is rumored to feature: a 5” 2560×1440 display with a pixel density of 560ppi. The benchmarks also revealed a Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.5GHz, which is odd given that we heard the Galaxy S5 could feature a 64-bit Exynos chipset from Samsung, although there is a possibility that this could be the LTE version.

Take it with a grain of salt for now, but keep in mind that benchmarks can be faked. However we will be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, so if the Galaxy S5 is your next handset, then the model number SM-G900S might be one worth keeping an eye on.

Samsung Galaxy S5 “Confirmed” To Sport A Metal Build [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Confirmed To Sport A Metal Build [Rumor]We have heard rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and that it could feature a metal body. In fact it wasn’t too long ago that a photo was leaked that was allegedly that of the Galaxy S5’s metallic frame. Of course we have also heard the rumors that the Galaxy S5 will take design cues from the Galaxy Note 3 by featuring a plastic body and a faux leather back.

According to a new report, it seems that it is more or less “confirmed” that the Galaxy S5 will feature a metal construction, making this the first Galaxy S device from Samsung to step away from the use of plastics which some have deemed to be considered “cheap”. (more…)

Samsung Galaxy S5 Might Not Have OIS After All [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Might Not Have OIS After All [Rumor]It was just recently when the alleged specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5 was leaked and according to the rumors, one of the alleged features of the upcoming device is a 16MP camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) on board. However as it turns out, a rumor from ETNews, it has been suggested that perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S5’s camera might not come with OIS after all. Apparently this is due to Samsung unable to get all the necessary components in time, which means that OIS for the Galaxy S5 will be omitted and instead be reserved for Samsung’s devices later in 2014, presumably the Galaxy Note 4 as being one of them.

Other alleged specs include a 64-bit Samsung Exynos chipset or a Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm. It is also rumored to feature 3GB of RAM, a 4,000mAh battery, and will most likely come with Android 4.4 KitKat on board. We have also heard how it might be possible that the phone could sport a metal casing. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to go into production in January 2014 and is expected to see a release in March 2014, meaning that there is a good chance the handset will make its debut at CES 2014 or MWC 2014 (although we think the latter will be more likely).
