Galaxy Gear 2 Will Reportedly Be Launched Alongside Galaxy S5

Galaxy Gear 2 Will Reportedly Be Launched Alongside Galaxy S5

Samsung is definitely going to release updated variants of its products in 2014 and those interested in wearable technology are anxiously to see just what the company will introduce with its next generation smartwatch, which we’ll call Galaxy Gear 2. Only recently Samsung pushed out a major firmware update for Galaxy Gear to improve its notifications feature. The smartwatch was launched in September this year alongside the Galaxy Note 3, and if local media reports coming in from Korea are correct, the Galaxy Gear 2 might partner up with the Galaxy S5 which according to another recent rumor is due to be released in March 2014.

There have been reports of Galaxy Gear not selling well, critics of the product can definitely find faults in it. Some say that the smartwatch is too thick, and Samsung just might have something to appease them. Rumor has it that the Galaxy Gear 2 is going to be 15-20 percent thinner than the existing smartwatch, which would quite frankly be a welcome step. It hasn’t been said as yet what additional improvements we can expect from Galaxy Gear 2, so we’ll just have to wait and see if there are any further leaks about the smartwatch. Samsung claims that it has sold over 800,000 units of the Galaxy Gear, perhaps it can sell even more if the smartwatch is much thinner, lighter and has even more features.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Specifications Rumored Once Again

Samsung Galaxy S5 Specifications Rumored Once Again

As 2014 approaches with each passing day, rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S5 continue to circulate. A couple of months back it was first rumored that Samsung is going to release the next generation Galaxy S flagship earlier than originally anticipated because the Galaxy S4 has not met the company’s internal sales expectations. While the Korean giant hasn’t said anything to confirm those rumors, we’ve started to hear more about the Galaxy S5. Specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have been rumored once again today, apparently two variants of the device will be released which will be fashioned from different materials.

The premium Galaxy S5 variant is said to have a metal casing as well as a flexible AMOLED touchscreen display, possibly around five inches, whereas the “mass market” variant is said to be fashioned out of plastic and tout a non-flexible AMOLED display, also around five inches. Its likely that the “flexible” display mentioned in the reports coming out of Korean will be similar to one on Samsung Galaxy Round, and not like the one of LG’s self-healing G Flex smartphone. The Galaxy S5 is said to have a 64-bit Exynos processor, 16 megapixel camera possibly with optical image stabilization, 3GB RAM as well as a massive 4,000mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat might be preinstalled. The report claims that Samsung will produce around 800,000 to 1 million units of the Galaxy S5 in January and will increase production to 6 million units in February 2014. If needed, production will be increased to 8-10 million units once the smartphone is actually released in March, 2014. Since these are unconfirmed reports after all, a grain of salt is advised.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Might Have Multiparty Video Conference Call Feature

Samsung Galaxy S5 Might Have Multiparty Video Conference Call Feature

It was rumored a few weeks back that Samsung might release the Galaxy S5 earlier than expected. Since then, rumors about the Galaxy S5 have started to circulate. It is believed that the smartphone will ditch plastic this time around for metal, and that it will come with Samsung’s new 64-bit Exynos processor. The company is known to unveil new software features with its devices as well which are meant to enhance user experience. Galaxy S4 brought few new software features, so its not a long shot to assume that Galaxy S5 might have software features of its own. Rumor has it that the upcoming smartphone might have multiparty video conference call feature built-in.

An interface for this feature can be seen in a document that has been filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service. It looks like the feature will allow users to use both front and rear cameras during multiparty video conference calls, while video feeds from other participants are displayed in the bottom. It isn’t entirely clear at this point in time if this feature will be exclusive to the Galaxy S5 or if it will be added to ChatON through an update. If Samsung does add it to ChatON, then its messaging app will definitely get a leg up on the competition. [Image via Galaxyclub]

Alleged Galaxy S5 Metal Frame Spotted In Leaked Photo

Alleged Galaxy S5 Metal Frame Spotted In Leaked Photo2014 is the year when Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S5, but apart from that prediction, not much else is known about said device. Rumors have suggested that it could feature a metal frame, and thanks to a recently leaked photo, it seems that the rumors might be true! As you can see in the image above, it shows a frame of a smartphone that is apparently made from metal. According to the folks at Nowhereelse.fr, they claim that this is a component belonging to none other than the Galaxy s5, and based on what we can see, it certainly looks a bit bigger than its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, although we’re not sure by how much.

We have been hearing a fair bit of rumors of the Galaxy S5 for a while now, with the most recent one suggesting that the handset would retain its 5” display but sport a 2,560×1,440 resolution, giving it a pretty high pixel density of 560ppi. There were rumors suggesting a metal body as well, although these rumors were quickly countered with another rumor suggesting that it would still keep its plastic body, but would sport a faux leather back, similar to that of the Galaxy Note 3. Other rumored specs include a 16MP camera with ISOCELL technology and an eye sensor.

Galaxy S5 Eye Scanner Rumors Mount

Galaxy S5 Eye Scanner Rumors Mount

As this year slowly but surely comes to an end, all eyes are fixed on 2014 and the products that it will bring. Samsung is rumored to release the Galaxy S5 early next year, possibly in January. While the company hasn’t said anything about next year’s flagship just yet, rumor has it that it might have a high resolution 560ppi display, a 64-bit Exynos processor and perhaps even an eye scanner. A Samsung patent has been newly discovered which lends weight to the rumors of Galaxy S5 having an eye scanner.

Iris scanning is the method of choice in this patent, presumably because its much faster than standard retina scanning. The figure in the patent shows a smartphone that has a camera, a proximity sensor, light emitting and receiving units as well as a power supply. The proximity sensor will sense when an object approaches the camera upon which the iris scanner will be activated. If the scan matches that already stored in the device, access will be granted. This is certainly theoretically possible, but it remains to be seen if the technology is ready by the time Samsung releases the Galaxy S5. It has been rumored that Samsung is going to release the Galaxy S5 earlier than intended, presumably because Galaxy S4 has not met internal sales expectations. So can it be said for sure right now if the Galaxy S5 will have an eye scanner? Absolutely not, rumors like these must always be taken with a grain of salt. [Image via Patent Bolt]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Display Might Be Super AMOLED With 560ppi

Samsung Galaxy S5 Display Might Be Super AMOLED With 560ppi

It has been rumored multiple times that Samsung might release a high resolution display next year, one that may have pixel density has high as 560 pixels per inch. Such a display would without a doubt be perfect for the company’s own flagship smartphones, and next year its expected to launch the Galaxy S5, which might become the first smartphone to debut the company’s new display. Recently the company conducted an Analyst Day in Korea where market analysts were briefed on various aspects of the business, a presentation made by Samsung Display CEO Kinam Kim there has leaked online which clearly shows that the company will reach 560ppi Super AMOLED displays in 2014. Recent rumors suggest that Samsung is close to mass producing these displays.

If Samsung doesn’t increase the display size on Galaxy S5 and keeps it at 5 inches, a display like this would result in a phenomenal resolution of 2,560×1,440 pixels on a smartphone. That’s a tad bit higher than the pixel resolution on Apple’s new iPad Air. Even if the average user coming up from a full 1080p HD display doesn’t find any noticeable difference in the new display, Samsung would certainly gain bragging rights for being the first to ship a 560ppi phone. Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about the Galaxy S5 just yet, so its best to take rumors with a pinch of salt right now. The leaked presentation of Samsung Display CEO can be found here.

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature 16MP Camera With ISOCELL Technology [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature 16MP Camera With ISOCELL Technology [Rumor]According to recent reports, it seems that come 2014, we can look forward to Samsung phones featuring cameras with a 16MP sensor on board. Well as it turns out, not only will next year’s Galaxy S5 smartphone feature a 16MP camera, but it will be a 16MP camera with ISOCELL technology as well! For those unfamiliar, ISOCELL technology should allow the camera to be better at low-light photography, an area which the Nokia Lumia 1020 is dominating at the moment, and as far as Android competition is concerned, the LG G2 seems to be pretty decent as well. Assuming this is true, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 should prove to be a decent competitor in the field, unless of course Nokia and LG come up with even better technology that will trump them, but for Galaxy S fans who are a little disappointed by Samsung’s low-light photography, hopefully this will be able to make up for it.

ISOCELL technology will also allow for better color reproduction, sharpness, and richness, at least when compared to BSI technology which is currently featured in most smartphone cameras these days. At the same time while ISOCELL will be a welcome feature, the rumored lack of optical image stabilization will also need to be taken into account. Of course given that we’re still a long way from Samsung announcing or hinting at anything Galaxy S5-related, this should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully down the road more information about the Galaxy S5 will surface.

Samsung 2014 Flagship Devices Expected To Have 16MP Cameras

Samsung 2014 Flagship Devices Expected To Have 16MP Cameras

As this year approaches its end, speculation about 2014 has started making the rounds. We have already heard a few theories about what to expect from Samsung in 2014, latest reports coming in from Korea suggest that all Samsung 2014 flagship devices will have similar cameras, 16 megapixels possibly accompanied by optical image stabilization. Basically what this means is that if the Galaxy S5 comes with a 16 megapixel camera, it is highly likely that the Galaxy Note 4 will tout it as well. Though it won’t come as a surprise, Samsung has always used the same camera in its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note flagships.

A report suggests that the company has placed orders for 181 million 16 megapixel camera modules. The number contradicts another recent report, which claimed that Samsung only aims to sell 126 million high-end devices, which would include all flagships, in 2014. So why would the company order 55 million additional modules when it doesn’t aim to sell that many units? Could this mean that the company really announce that premium Galaxy F smartphone we have been hearing about? Too soon to say now, besides, these speculative reports must always be taken with a grain of salt. The previous report suggested that Samsung is going to focus more on tablets and low end smartphones next year.

Galaxy S5 Camera Might Not Have Optical Image Stabilization [Rumor]

Galaxy S5 Camera Might Not Have Optical Image Stabilization [Rumor]

Prior to its announcement, it was rumored that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s camera will tout optical image stabilization. OIS is a feature which, quite simply, reduces blurring when the camera is being used to take a photo or record a video. Samsung’s new phablet doesn’t come with OIS, unfortunately, though there a number of manufacturers who offer the feature in their flagship smartphones, manufacturers like HTC, LG and Nokia. At some point in time, Samsung is expected to catch up with its rivals, but a new report by Korean publication ET News suggests that might not happen with the Galaxy S5.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S5 in January next year, presumably because Galaxy S4 has not met its internal sales projections. The smartphone is said to have an Exynos 6 64-bit processor with a whopping 4GB of RAM, but that’s not confirmed yet. The Galaxy S5 camera will presumably not have optical image stabilization because Samsung’s supply partners are unable to manufacture enough components to meet Samsung’s demand. Samsung sells millions of units of its flagship devices, so suppliers might have a hard time keeping up, if this report is to be believed. The company has previously been rumored to be interested in developing its own camera modules, a step which might become absolutely necessary to take if Samsung wants to bring OIS to its future devices without having to depend on independent suppliers.

Galaxy S5 Will Have 4GB RAM [Rumor]

Galaxy S5 Will Have 4GB RAM [Rumor]

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the Galaxy S5 recently, ever since it was said that Samsung is apparently going to release the smartphone earlier than it had originally intended. The reason for this is believed to be Galaxy S4 missing internal sales projections. As of now, nothing has been confirmed, Samsung hasn’t mentioned anything about Galaxy S4 missing its sales targets. The latest rumor suggests that the Galaxy S5 will come with a whopping 4GB of RAM.

This is likely to be made possible by the 64-bit Exynos processor that the smartphone is supposed to have. Rumor has it that the processor is in the final stages of preparation, before it goes into production. This new processor is possibly going to mark the start of Exynos 6-series, just to differentiate from the Exynos 5-series processors that are used in existing devices. In theory, the 64-bit architecture would be able to cope up with 4GB of RAM, but it remains to be seen if Samsung actually does end up adding it in its future smartphone. The most RAM it offers in a mobile device right now is 3GB, which breathes under the Galaxy Note 3′s hood. 4GB is obviously the next frontier, but how soon will Samsung be able to achieve it? Time will tell.
