Samsung 64-Bit Exynos SoC Most Likely To Hit Galaxy S5

Samsung 64 Bit Exynos SoC Most Likely To Hit Galaxy S5The folks over at Samsung has just confirmed that they have a 64-bit Exynos chipset in the works, and it is being prepared for a full fledged debut in due time. Citing a number of “technical preparations”, this new chipset should arrive sometime this quarter – which would also mean that there is a pretty good chance of seeing it in action in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship that will be announced next year. This particular 64-bit Exynos chipset will enable additional memory to be addressed, in addition to faster DDR4 units to see action which Samsung so happens to be preparing for 2014, too.

What have we heard about the Samsung Galaxy S5 so far? Well, for starters, it has been rumored to arrive with an eye sensor (take that, TouchID!) alongside the possibility of a 16-megapixel camera that could very well be a Sony component. Well, to have it arrive with a 64-bit Exynos processor might just be the icing on the cake.

Will we be able to see the Galaxy S5 appear in January next year, or perhaps in time for a late February launch? Only time will tell, but increased pressure from the competition might just see it arrive sooner rather than later.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature 16MP Camera, Possibly Made By Sony

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature 16MP Camera, Possibly Made By SonyRecently the rumors of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 have started to make their rounds, and with the handset pegged for an early 2014 announcement, this hardly comes as a surprise. The latest rumor from Korean news portal, ETNews, has suggested that Samsung could be introducing a 16MP rear-facing camera in the Samsung Galaxy S5, and that the sensor could either be manufactured by Sony or by Samsung’s very own System LSI division. Given Sony’s size and status as one of the largest sensor makers in the world, they will be able to produce on the scale that Samsung might need, as well as offer competitive prices, but at the same time the report claims that Samsung’s System LSI division is trying to ramp up its output to match Sony.

In any case whichever source that Samsung chooses, it is expected that their decision will be made by the end of the year. With camera megapixels on smartphones increasing with every upgrade, making the jump from 13MP to 16MP is not a stretch of the imagination, although as we have stated before, more megapixels does not necessarily translate into better photographs. In fact Samsung Electro-Mechanics has recently developed a 13MP module with optical image stabilization which might be more desirable than a camera module that just has a larger sensor. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us down the line for more Galaxy S5 updates.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Feature Plastic Body And Faux Leather Back [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S5 Could Feature Plastic Body And Faux Leather Back [Rumor]Samsung has in the past gotten a bit of flack from the public regarding its choice of material for its smartphones, which have namely been plastic as opposed to using more “premium” materials such as metal or glass which are used by their competitors (HTC One and Sony Xperia Z come to mind). We had heard a rumor suggesting that the upcoming Galaxy S5 could feature a metal body although a new rumor has surfaced, suggesting that Samsung could be sticking to a plastic construction for the Galaxy S5, but will feature a faux leather back similar to that of the Galaxy Note 3. While the source is not the most accurate or reputable, given Samsung’s choice of materials in the past, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy S5 did indeed stick to the use of plastic as with its predecessors.

Despite the use of plastic, Samsung has enjoyed immense success with their Galaxy S-lineup and we doubt that will change regardless of whatever material Samsung goes with, although admittedly it would be a nice change of pace. Other rumored features of the upcoming Galaxy S5 include an eye sensor, a possible 64-bit Exynos chip, as well as a possible announcement in January 2014, presumably during CES. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Does the idea of another plastic Galaxy S device put you off, or do you not care?

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye Sensor (Rumor)

Samsung Galaxy S5 To Feature Eye Sensor (Rumor)When it comes to rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S5, you can bet your bottom dollar that a fair amount has been reported already. For instance, we did hear whispers of a possible January 2014 release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, not to mention that it might even arrive with an Exynos 6 14nm 64-bit processor, in addition to having the possibility of a rugged version of the Galaxy S5 being in the pipeline. Phew! All of that is a lot to handle, and one also figures that in the world of high end smartphones, it is often a game of one upmanship with your rivals. So Apple has introduced Touch ID to their iPhone 5s which is basically a fingerprint sensor. How about Samsung? The latest rumor surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be the very real possibility of having it arrive with an eye scanning sensor.

This would mean you can unlock your smartphone device with your eyes, and Samsung is allegedly already hard at work on the high-security bit of technology, although it remains to be seen in detail just how this particular piece of technology is going to work. Should this rumor end up as true, it would mean that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would offer a significant jump in smartphone security compared to what we currently have on the market.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Launch Rumored For January 2014

Samsung Galaxy S5 Launch Rumored For January 2014

Earlier this year Samsung launched the Galaxy S4, its latest flagship Android smartphone. The device generated a lot of hype and sold like hot cakes around the world. Samsung sold 20 million Galaxy S4 units in the first two months alone, and has continued to sell millions after that. Though since then, the company hasn’t revealed any official sales figures. Then there have been reports that overall Galaxy S4 sales have been disappointing, missing the company’s internal projections, though Samsung hasn’t publicly confirmed any of this. Rumor has it that Samsung has pushed the Galaxy S5 launch to January 2014, and that it will flood the market with units in February, a couple of months ahead of its usual March/April timeframe.

Making this move is likely to shake things up once again, by merely pushing the launch by a couple of months, Samsung might be able to make up for the alleged disappointing sales of the Galaxy S4. This is purely speculative right now, the company hasn’t given any indication that it intends to push forward the Galaxy S5 launch. We’ve been hearing rumors about the device recently, it is expected to have a new design, a 16 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and a Exynos 5430 64 bit processor. Samsung is also expected to shun plastic, opting for a metal chassis instead for the Galaxy S5.

Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy S5 Rugged Versions Reportedly Being Developed

Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy S5 Rugged Versions Reportedly Being Developed

Samsung is known to develop a number of variants of its flagship devices. Earlier this year it released the Galaxy S4 smartphone and followed it up with a rugged water and dust proof variant, a mini variant and a photography centric variant. So it doesn’t come as a surprise to hear that Samsung might be working on a number of variants for its other flagships. The latest from Korea’s ETNews suggests that the company might be developing rugged water and dust proof variants of the Galaxy Note 3 as well as the Galaxy S5.

It doesn’t seem too good to be true that a rugged Galaxy Note 3 is currently in the pipeline, it is likely that Samsung might launch it somewhere down the line, but we still can’t say that for sure seeing as how the company itself hasn’t made an indication of such a variant. Its the Galaxy S5 rumor that seems too good to be true at this point in time. The report claims that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone will be water and dust proof out of the box. There is still a lot of time left till the Galaxy S lineup reaches the end of its release cycle, and there isn’t a lot of information on the Galaxy S5 to go on at this point in time. What has been consistently rumored though is the possibility that Galaxy S5 might swap plastic for a metal body, but that too remains to be confirmed. No word as yet on when a rugged Galaxy Note 3 will be launched.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature Metal Body

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature Metal BodyThere were some who were a little disappointed by the Samsung Galaxy S4 earlier this year when it was discovered that the South Korean company turned to plastic once again, instead of metal, like what Apple, Nokia, HTC, and Sony did. Samsung’s answer at that time was that plastic was more durable in terms of flexibility, so when dropped it would not be as damaged compared to metal, which we guess makes sense. However it looks like Samsung could be having a change of heart as recent rumors have surfaced suggesting that Samsung could be turning to metal for the Galaxy S5 which is expected to see a release in 2014.

The report comes from the Taipei Times who claims that Samsung could tap Catcher Technology to make the metal casing for the upcoming device. For those unfamiliar, Catcher Technology is the same company behind the casings for the Apple MacBook Air and iPad mini, so it is safe to say that the company has experience in the matter. We are still a pretty long way off from Samsung making an official announcement so take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Will the Galaxy S5 be the first all-metal Samsung smartphone? More importantly, are you looking forward to such a design?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Reportedly Ditch Plastic For Aluminium

Samsung Galaxy S5 Will Reportedly Ditch Plastic For Aluminium

Rumor has it that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will use aluminium instead of plastic for its case. Next year’s Android flagship is expected to be the first Samsung device to switch to aluminium and magnesium, the company will reportedly switch other devices in the future as well. Metal does offer a much more premium feel than polycarbonate or plastic. The company’s rivals such as Apple and HTC already use this material in their flagship smartphones, Samsung adopting a metal based casing for its flagship is likely to increase competition between these players.

The company is reportedly working on reinventing the entire design of its flagship Galaxy range, the work is not limited to materials only, they’re apparently working to reinvigorate aesthetics as well. Samsung is rumored to have already sent engineers to a factory in Vietnam to see if it has the capability to mass product metal cases. Samples have already been built, apparently. It remains to be seen if this move will bring a price increase for Samsung’s flagship smartphone. We’ll have to wait until next year before we get to see a Samsung smartphone fashioned out of metal. None of the mobile devices that the company is expected to launch this year are rumored to tout metal.
