Samsung Galaxy Stellar Gets Jelly Bean Update

Samsung Galaxy Stellar Gets Jelly Bean Update Yes, the world is truly starting to shift towards the Android 4.x and above operating system versions, as evident with word that Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Stellar has been slated to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for some time already, and today’s the day. Assuming your Galaxy Stellar has yet to receive the Jelly Bean update, you would be able to perform a manual check if patience is not high on your list of virtues.

Assuming it has yet to hit your Galaxy Stellar, it would be prudent to wait for just a few more days since this will be a staged roll out. Of course, with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, your precious Galaxy Stellar from Verizon will be on the receiving end of improvements such as better notifications, Google Now and Project Butter enhancements. Not only that, it will allow your smartphone to handle microSD memory cards of up to 64GB in size, carry a new VZW Remote Diagnostics application, better call clarity, and an overall speedier response.

Verizon Wireless rolls out Samsung Galaxy Stellar

You know, when you have a device with the name “Stellar” tucked away somewhere, you had best make sure that the hardware specifications are able to live up to the name. I guess the same cannot be said for the Samsung Galaxy Stellar which has arrived at Verizon Wireless, and I will get back to that in greater detail in the extended post. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Stellar might come with 4G LTE connectivity as well as dual interface options, but when the proverbial rubber meets the road, the Samsung Galaxy Stellar is definitely not going to top any of the benchmark tests in the market.

Since a couple of days ago, the Samsung Galaxy Stellar has been made available over at Verizon Wireless – whether you want to visit them over at their brick and mortar store, or check out their online presence. Being easy-to-use, the 4G LTE enabled Samsung Galaxy Stellar was specially designed to be compact and small enough, letting your hand have a firm and comfortable grip on the handset.

Apart from that, the Galaxy Stellar does come with a dual interface option so that customers will be able to pick from Starter Mode or Standard Mode. Just what are these two modes? Well, Starter Mode offers customers a simplified home screen display alongside preset widgets such as Favorite Apps, Favorite Contacts and Favorite Settings so that you are able to obtain quick and easy access to frequently used apps and settings. In addition, Starter Mode will also boast of a quick dialer icon which enables customers to make phone calls directly from the home screen.

As for Standard Mode, customers will be able to enjoy a more conventional layout that delivers the traditional Android experience, if there is such a thing that is classified as so. Not only that, the Galaxy Stellar will be accompanied by a Help app which features guided tours, walkthroughs, tips for changing settings and more, in order for customers to master their device within the shortest time possible.

Some of the hardware specifications (don’t be prepared to get blown away) include 4G LTE connectivity (which you already know), a 4-inch WVGA display (800 x 480 resolution), Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a suite of Amazon apps, a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon application processor, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, a 3.2-megapixel camera at the rear, Wi-Fi support and a microSD memory card slot.

The asking price? Basically free, after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Stellar spotted in Best Buy listing, release date still unknown

If you’re in the market for an affordable Android handset, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Stellar SCH-i200 could be making its way onto Verizon’s network soon. This is thanks to a Best Buy listing which has revealed the device and confirmed some of its specs. For starters, would-be owners of the device can look forward to a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4” 480×800 display, a 3.2MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a microSD card slot for memory expansion, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich preinstalled and 4G LTE support on Verizon’s network. Best Buy did not state when the device would be available, but we’re assuming this listing is an indication that it shouldn’t be too long until its official release. It appears to be priced at $449.99 which we’re assuming is off-contract, but for those who are willing to be tied to a two-year contract, it has been suggested that it will only cost you $99.99.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar gets premature outing at Best Buy

Samsung Galaxy Stellar gets premature outing at Best Buy

Verizon just isn’t having much success preserving its secrets these days. What hope the carrier had left of keeping the Samsung Galaxy Stellar under wraps has just been been dashed by a full product page at Best Buy. Like we suspected, that astronomical name is attached to the conspicuously grounded Jasper: as long as the listing is accurate, we’re looking at a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (toned down from the 1.5GHz rumor), a 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, a so-so 3.2-megapixel back camera and a 1.3-megapixel shooter at the front. We aren’t seeing the leaked mentions of Amazon apps or a Starter mode, but there is hope that the Galaxy Stellar might undercut the still fairly stiff $100 price from the earlier Verizon-sourced scoop — while it’s not guaranteed to remain, the $450 contract-free price at Best Buy is about $50 less than we saw before. All that Verizon needs to do now is dispense with formalities and commit to a launch; meanwhile, you can catch a snap of the listing after the break and click the source to see the page for yourself, while it lasts.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar rumored to hit Verizon for $100, hopes to lure you in with Amazon apps

Samsung Galaxy Stellar rumored to hit Verizon for $100, hopes to lure you in with Amazon apps

Regardless of the situation, it’s relatively safe to say Samsung will never, ever run out of Galaxy monikers. Now it’s the Korean outfit’s Galaxy Stellar making the internet rounds yet again, though there’s a little more information attached this time around. Per Droid Life, Sammy’s purported Verizon-bound Galaxy Stellar will be joining the carrier’s LTE-equipped smartphone lineup with a $100 price tag (of course, that’s assuming you sign a two-year deal) and is, as you can see above, said to be carrying an “easy-to-use” Starter mode to help folks get started, plus a compact design that “fits comfortably in hands.” Most notably, however, are the tidbits flaunting Amazon apps rather than, say, the Android maker’s Play offerings — an interesting plug, to say the least. At this point nothing’s quite set in stone, so we’ll have to wait for more details to spill before making any assumptions.

Samsung Galaxy Stellar pops up in Verizon docs, might light up our skies soon

Samsung Galaxy Stellar pops up in Verizon docs, might light up our skies soon

Having launched an all-out blitz on the high-end of US smartphones, Samsung must be eager to conquer the mid-range as well. A Verizon rebate list finding its way to Droid-Life has the previously unknown Galaxy Stellar showing up amongst the carrier’s more budget-minded smartphones for a $50 discount sometime between now and an August 19th expiry date. There’s little we can definitively attach to that starry-eyed name so far, although we have our hunches: first and foremost is that it’s the Jasper, the Snapdragon S4-touting spiritual successor to the Droid Charge. It might alternately be the even more mysterious SCH-i415, which just showed up at the FCC this weekend and could be a world-roaming sequel to the Stratosphere (SCH-i405) with CDMA, LTE and GSM all rolled into one. Whether the Galaxy Stellar is one of these two devices or something entirely off of the map, there’s a strong indication between this, Sprint’s mystery SPH-L300 and the slightly more tangible Galaxy Reverb that Samsung will leave no CDMA corner unturned in the near future.
