Here's Apple's newly printed apology to Samsung, in case you understandably missed it

While Apple’s still rewriting its online apology, the printed versions, detailing that Samsung’s tablets did not infringe on Cupertino’s iPad designs, have finally started to appear. Spotted on page five of The Guardian today, it doesn’t look much like the Apple advertising we’re used to — we actually glossed over the admission when we first picked up the paper. Oh, and good luck typing up those links.

Sprint Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 coming your way this November 11th

If you are a subscriber to Sprint’s network and are on the lookout for a spanking new tablet, then here’s news for you – Sprint will be making available their very first 4G LTE tablet to the masses this coming November 11th, where you will have to fork out $549.99 for this bad boy. Depending on your budget, you are able to activate the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with one of the new, aggressively priced month-to-month tablet rate plans, where 300MB of 3G/4G LTE data will cost you $14.99, while folks who figure out that 300MB is pittance might want to settle for a more comfortable 3GB data at $34.99 per month. Heck, if you think that this amount is still not enough, you can always double the bandwidth for $49.99 monthly, and go all the way with 12GB of data for $79.99 each month. Sprint claims that their new data plans deliver 20% more data, dollar-for-dollar, compared to what AT&T delivers. Does this mean you will be casting your sights on the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 from Sprint from the beginning of November onwards?

Apple publishes 'Samsung did not copy' statement through gritted teeth

Whatever you think of the continual legal tussles between Apple and Samsung, a UK court’s decision to force the former into publicly acknowledging that the latter did not copy its design will have seemed a little egregious even to the most ardent sammy-sympathiser. Well, that post is now live — on Apple’s site at least — and as you might expect, is studiously manicured to almost not feel like an acknowledgement at all. The opening legalese notes that Samsung did not infringe “registered design No. 0000181607-0001,” before going on to point out in perfect lay-terms the positive comments Judge Colin Birss made about its own slates. While Apple does confirm that the UK decision was further upheld by the court of appeal, it is also keen to remind you that other European legal jurisdictions (namely Germany) don’t share this opinion. Head to source to read the statement in full.

ITC rules that Samsung violates four Apple patents covering design, touch

ITC rules that Samsung violates four Apple design, touch patents

The back and forth continues. US International Trade Commission Administrative Law Judge Thomas Pender has made an initial ruling that some Samsung’s devices violate four Apple patents, including one iPhone design patent (the one you see above) and three software patents. Apple didn’t manage a clean sweep, as Samsung was cleared of treading on two more patents, but the verdict still carries the all-too-familiar potential for a trade ban if the ITC maintains the findings in its final review. It’s bleak news for the Korean company, which faced an initial loss to Apple at the ITC just last month — even though large swaths of the mostly Android-based Galaxy phones and tablets in the dispute have long since left the market, an upheld verdict gives Samsung one less bargaining chip in a protracted legal war.

Apple Vs Samsung: U.K. Appeal Court Upholds ‘Galaxy Tab Not Cool Enough To Copy iPad’ Ruling

galaxy tab 10.1

Apple has lost an appeal against a ruling in a U.K. High Court that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab does not infringe the iPad’s design. The original ruling by Judge Colin Birss said Samsung’s tablets were not cool enough to be confused with Apple’s because they lacked the “extreme simplicity” of the iPad. That ruling has now been upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The original ruling also stated that Apple must run adverts on its website and in newspaper saying Samsung did not copy the iPad. Reuters reports that the Court of Appeal’s Judge Kitchin said today the notices must be in a font size no smaller than Ariel 14.

Samsung provided the following statement

We welcome the court’s judgment, which reaffirmed our position that our GALAXY Tab products do not infringe Apple’s registered design right. We continue to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners and that the origins of Apple’s registered design features can be found in numerous examples of prior art. Should Apple continue to make excessive legal claims in other countries based on such generic designs, innovation in the industry could be harmed and consumer choice unduly limited.

We’ve also reached out to Apple for comment and will update with any response. the company said it has no comment on the court’s decision.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 from Sprint announced

If you are a Sprint subscriber who has been waiting far too long for the carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, we are harbingers of good news – all of your waiting are about to pay off dividends, as the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will soon arrive on Sprint, taking advantage of the Sprint 4G LTE network. We have taken a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in our rather comprehensive review, so if you are interested to know what else is inside this particular tablet that should be taken note of (pun not intended), reading the review might help with your final purchase decision.

There is still no word on pricing and availability, but now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag, you need not fret. It should not take too long before the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 arrives on Sprint’s store shelves, virtual or otherwise.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 variants (SPH-P500 and SCH-i915) hit the FCC

It would seem as though the good people over at the FCC will have an overwhelming number of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablets on their hands to play around with, as two variants of Samsung’s latest tablet, the SPH-P500 and the SCH-i915 have made their way to the FCC. These will feature LTE support and will make their way to Sprint and Verizon Wireless, respectively. The Galaxy Tab 2 is known to be powered by a Texas Instrument processor, but so far unverified benchmarks of both did appear online before, pointing towards the possibility of a speedier Snapdragon S4 processor being thrown into the mix this time around.

Not only that, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for Sprint and US Cellular has also decided to join in the party, where it is called the SPH-L900 and SCH-R950, respectively, sporting dual-mode support. Is your wallet or bank account primed up to pick up either one of these?

Samsung P500 and i915tablets for Sprint and Verizon, Sprint Galaxy Note II reach the FCC

When it rains, it pours. As if to clear the decks, Samsung has passed three devices through the FCC’s scrutiny at the same time. Two, the SPH-P500 and SCH-i915, are LTE-equipped tablets respectively headed to Sprint and Verizon with a dash of mystery; their label images imply a pair of Galaxy Tab 2 variants, but both have previously been spotted in as yet unverified benchmarks that allude to much faster Snapdragon S4 processors instead of the Tab 2’s TI chips. The SPH-L900’s dimensions and dual-mode support make for a safer bet, pointing to what’s likely the Galaxy Note II for Sprint. We’re less concerned with the hardware details so much as when everything ships — although we may get a clearer picture of the Sprint Galaxy Note II’s fate around October 24th, the tablets aren’t linked to any kind of public schedule, official or otherwise.

Update: Not long after Sprint’s Galaxy Note sequel arrived in the FCC, US Cellular’s flavor — the SCH-R950 — also made it through the federal approval process.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 Gets a Shot at Going on Sale Again [Tablets]

Thanks to the Apple vs. Samsung patent war, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been off the market here in the States due to an injunction awarded a month ahead of the big showdown. Now, a U.S. appeals court has ruled that it’s time to reconsider that ban. More »

T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 arrives at the FCC

The FCC played host to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 recently, although this particular model is slated for a specific mobile carrier in the US, namely T-Mobile, where it came accompanied with the model number Samsung SGH-T779. Part of the documentation revealed a tablet sized device which was developed by Samsung thanks to the brand name being in the image itself, not to mention T-Mobile branding in full view as well. This is a 4G enabled tablet, and the FCC model came with 16GB of internal memory to get you started right out of the box.

It must be said that when the SGH-T779 picked up its Bluetooh SIG Certification, it was linked to a different tablet, the SGH-i497, which is actually a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that was headed for AT&T. Simple deduction skills mean the Samsung SGH-T779 ought to be headed for the T-Mobile platform in due time. No idea on pricing or availability though as at press time.
