Samsung Rigged the S4 to Unnaturally Perform Better in Benchmark Tests

Samsung Rigged the S4 to Unnaturally Perform Better in Benchmark Tests

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a damn fine phone. It’s fast, it’s big, it’s thin and it’s completely deserving to be in most people’s pockets. But apparently that’s not enough for Samsung. Samsung has gotten caught cheating benchmark tests to make itself look better. Basically, the S4 is specifically tweaked to be better at benchmarking than anything else it does.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini returns to the FCC with AT&T-capable LTE

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini revisits the FCC, now with AT&Tfriendly LTE

When the Galaxy S4 Mini reached the FCC last month, we thought that might be the last we’d see of it in the US; the Galaxy S III Mini never officially reached the country, after all. The GS4 Mini is back for another round, however, and it’s now toting AT&T-native support for both LTE (on the 700MHz and AWS bands) and HSPA (850MHz and 1,900MHz). Few other surprises are in store, although we’ve noticed that there’s no AWS-based HSPA for T-Mobile fans. The filing also doesn’t say anything about an AT&T launch for the GS4 Mini, but it comes a month after the FCC approved a compatible Galaxy Mega 6.3 — we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to the story.

Boost Mobile ships Samsung Galaxy Prevail II for $180 off-contract

Boost Mobile ships Samsung Galaxy Prevail II for $180 offcontract

Well over two years after the original graced Boost Mobile’s shelves, Samsung’s Galaxy Prevail II is being announced for the same carrier. Available for just $179.99 in off-contract form, the handset ships with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front-facing cam, and a 1.4GHz processor. You’ll also find a 1,750mAh battery, inbuilt GPS / WiFi modules and Bluetooth 4.0. The prepaid carrier is hawking this on its contract-free $55 / month plan, which just so happens to shrink by $5 per month for every six on-time payments — in other words, those who hang around long enough will eventually be paying as little as $40 / month for nationwide talk, text and picture messaging, as well as web access. Not too shabby, eh?

DNP Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition what's different

Several days ago we received a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Google Play edition to play with and shared our first impressions. This week we take a closer look at what’s different between this handset and its TouchWiz-equipped cousins by scrutinizing the benchmarks, battery life and camera performance. Samsung pleasantly surprised us at Google I/O when it announced a Galaxy S 4 running stock Android. HTC then joined the party with its own unskinned superphone, the One. This Galaxy S 4, which landed in the Play store on June 26th for $649 contract-free, is identical to T-Mobile’s 16GB model and shares the same specs. So, what does stock Android bring to this flagship? How does it compare to the TouchWiz versions? Is anything left behind? Finally, is this Google Play edition worth the extra cash? Hit the break to find out.
