3D Printed Cyvasse Set: a Game of Keeps and Mountains

Characters don’t just drink, do it and die in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. They also play games, particularly a board game called Cyvasse. Now you can play it too, thanks to Thingiverse member A. Marston Croft and his friend Nate Stephens.

I have not read the books yet – don’t behead me! – but from what I gather, Martin has not yet laid out the rules of Cyvasse and the appearance of its pieces completely. So Croft took a few liberties here and there.

I’m sure you can forgive him if his work doesn’t live up to what you thought Cyvasse would be like, especially since Croft did all the work for you. Head to Thingiverse to download the 3D templates and the rules (pdf) for free.

Fans Create A 3D-Printable Version Of Cyvasse, The Game Of Thrones Boardgame

100_4137_preview_featured

Take off your silken cloak and get your dragon eggs ready because Cyvasse, the game that characters play in George R. R. Martin’s Game Of Thrones series is now 3D-printable. Created by Arian Croft of IllGottenGames and his friend Nate Stephens, the game uses most of Martin’s rules mentioned in the books as well as interpolations taken from period-specific game rules.

He writes:

I adapted the game to include everything mentioned in the book into a rules set I found believable for a game made during the emulated time period, while also keeping the games in mind that Martin has mentioned as inspiration during interviews.

The pieces are nicely detailed but should print well on even simpler 3D printers. I’ve printed one of Arian’s previous games, Pocket-Tactics and he’s an excellent model-maker with a good eye for detail and an understanding of the limitations of the medium. Best of all, this game is free to print and play, a potential disruption that should should be giving Parker Brother’s nightmares.

You can download the game here and print it out yourself in black or white ABS. Just don’t tell those nasty Warlocks in Qarth. They’ll probably steal all your pieces.

US Ambassador Hopes Australians Will Stop Game Of Thrones Piracy

US Ambassador Hopes Australians Will Stop Game Of Thrones Piracy

Game of Thrones was crowned as the most illegally downloaded show in 2012. Earlier this month when its Season 3 premiere aired, it was downloaded over a million times in one day, breaking the previous record for the largest BitTorrent swarm ever. The premiere was illegally downloaded the most in Australia. Game of Thrones airs on HBO and the network’s programming president, Micheal Lombardo, doesn’t mind all this piracy. Actually, he thinks that the blatant Game of Thrones piracy is akin to a compliment. The American ambassador to Australia since 2009, Jeffrey Bleich, doesn’t have the same sentiments though.

In a Facebook post, he said that as the ambassador to Australia he found it especially troubling to see that “Australian fans were some of the worst offenders with among the highest piracy rates of Game of Thrones in the world.” He also says that Australians can no longer hide behind the time delay excuse, adding that new episodes are now available from legitimate sources within hours of them airing in the U.S. While his comments won’t exactly stop Australian fans from downloading Game of Thrones via torrents, it is interesting to see such a high level diplomat speaking out against online piracy in another country.

Game of Thrones Pizzas: Delivery is Coming

I was just talking about one wonderful edible creation by Rosanna Pansino, when I stumbled onto another. When trouble rolls into Westeros, the best way to calm tensions between the warring families is with a peace offering. I mean a piece offering – as in a piece of pizza.

game of thrones pizzas

These Game of Thrones pizzas were topped with pepperoni, black olives, cheese, chicken, and ham. I immediately recognized the tasty sigils of the house of Baratheon, Stark, and Targaryen. I’m not too sure about the pepperoni Lannister lion though, – it looks more like a bear to me, and I know the Mormonts aren’t deserving of a pizza Sigil of their own – at least not yet.

Rosanna, I think I’m officially in love with you. You know they say a the way to a geek’s heart is through his stomach, after all.

If Game of Thrones Characters Were on Facebook

By now, it’s pretty much a fact that everyone uses Facebook (pipe down if you don’t). It’s also pretty much a fact that everyone watches Game of Thrones too (shut up if you don’t). But what if the characters in Game of Thrones started using Facebook? It would be so hilarious More »

Last Night’s Game Of Thrones Premier Was the Hottest Torrent Ever

Game of Thrones season three premiered last night, and that’s kind of a big deal. If you’re a fan, you’ll need no convincing. But if you need proof of its potency, here you go: according to numbers collected by TorrentFreak, the Game of Thrones season three premier now holds the record for the biggest BitTorrent swarm ever. Game Of Thrones Season 3 Premiere Illegal Downloads Peak Over A Million

Game Of Thrones Season 3 Premiere Illegal Downloads Peak Over A Million

Game of Thrones has a unique honor to its name. It became the most illegally downloaded TV show of 2012. According to latest numbers, it is not giving up that throne any time soon. Last night HBO aired the Game of Thrones Season 3 premier and in merely a day it has been downloaded over a million times. There have never been so many people sharing a file at the same time, with 160,000 simultaneous peers, its a new record. It broke the record for the largest BitTorrent swarm ever. Previously this record was held by the season premier of Heroes with 144,663 peers.

One of the main reasons behind this rampant piracy is the delay in airing for viewers outside the U.S. HBO has been working to plug these delays but adamant turn to piracy as they don’t want to miss out on the latest and greatest episodes. The data shows that Australia has the highest piracy rate, with a population of over 22 million. London was the city with the highest piracy rate followed by Paris and Sydney. The U.S. comes in at the top. We’ve got to ask, how did you watch the premier last night?!

The Piracy Of Game Of Thrones Is Actually A Compliment, According To HBO’s Michael Lombardo

The Piracy Of Game Of Thrones Is Actually A Compliment, According To HBOs Michael LombardoDownloading your favorite movies or television shows via torrents is seen as an act of piracy, and while some producers, record labels and artists are strongly against it, there are others who don’t mind it as much. Back in February we reported that hit television show, HBO’s Game of Thrones’ director said that he was not worried at the show’s piracy which was interesting considering that it was the most pirated show of 2012. While that is one view, what about HBO who is producing the show? How do they feel about it? Well it seems that HBO’s programming president, Michael Lombardo (via EW) thinks that having the show reach the piracy levels it is at is something of a compliment.

Speaking to EW, Lombaro was quoted as saying, “I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but it is a compliment of sorts […] [Piracy is] something that comes along with having a wildly successful show on a subscription network.” He also somewhat dispelled the myth that downloads will affect the revenue made from DVD or Blu-ray sales by saying that the demand for DVDs and Blu-rays of Game of Thrones is still there, and that the downloads did not negatively impact sales. Of course this does not make piracy right, or that it applies to all things downloaded, but it does show to a certain extent that fans are willing to pay to keep physical copies of the show, music, or merchandize despite initially downloading it.

Jason Yang: Game of Thrones Violin Cover

The season 3 premier is upon us, people. There were a lot of quality contenders for this soundtrack slot. Mashups, covers and original tracks abound. Jason Yang’s cover of the Game of Thrones theme by Ramin Djawadi is all-around solid, though, and also pretty epic. The track incorporates acoustic and electric violin, and was recorded before the start of season 2. Play this on loop when the premier is over and you’re already starved for more. More »

The Axis of Awesome: Rage of Thrones

The entire world—my geek friends, my non geek friends, my non TV watching non geek friends—is waiting for March 31st because that’s when Game of Thrones is finally coming back to HBO. Westeros! Dany! Jon Snow! Tyrion! Robb Stark! Robb Stark’s girl who is the great granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin! Everyone is excited except… the people who read the books. They know what’s coming. The Axis of Awesome made a hilarious music video called ‘Rage of Thrones’ about those people and how they feel about us bandwagoners. Still, though. Game of Thrones on HBO is great!
