Nintendo to release 23 games on Wii U launch day

Nintendo announced a lineup of 23 games today that will launch simultaneously with the Wii U on November 18. Nintendo plans on releasing more than 50 titles total for the Wii U between November 18, 2012 and March 31, 2013. However, we now know that nearly half of those games will be available right on launch day.

A few notable titles that will be available on November 18 include Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, Transformers Prime, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. We’ve already gotten some details about Black Ops II a couple weeks ago, but we’re looking forward to hearing about the other games that are coming on launch day.

The Wii U will be available in two versions: a Basic Set and a Deluxe Set. The Basic Set will sell for $299 and includes the Wii U system, the Wii U touchscreen gamepad, 8GB of storage, an HDMI cable, and a sensor bar for Wii remotes. The Deluxe Set will include all of the Basic Set, but will have 32GB of storage, a Wii U GamePad charging cradle, a Wii U console stand, and a copy of Nintendo Land. This will all sell for $349.

Scroll down to see a list of all 23 games that will be hitting store shelves on November 18. In the meantime, mark your calendars and ready your wallets, or start filling out your wish list for Santa if you think you can wait a month longer.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour trailer revealed for iPhone, iPad and Android

Gameloft is certainly no stranger to the high-end mobile gaming scene. They’ve been releasing some of the top games for Android and iOS for a long time and today they’ve just issued a teaser for what could be their best game yet. The popular Modern Combat series is getting its 4th iteration, and the graphics look so good we’re amazed this is for a mobile device. Lets take a peek!

Gameloft has seen huge success on both iOS and Android with Modern Combat, as well as other games such as their acclaimed Asphalt racing series. They recently announced their new Unreal Graphics Engine powered Wild Blood, but this latest game looks even better. All those iPhone 5 owners can get excited knowing this game will look amazing on that 4-inch Retina display.

Impressive right? It certainly leaves you wanting more, that is for sure. I couldn’t help but feel a certain Call of Duty or Black Ops feeling while enjoying the trailer, but either way we still completely enjoyed it. Gameloft has continued to push the edge for mobile games and this looks to be no different.

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour looks to set the bar for first person shooter games on both iOS and Android if you ask us. Those graphics look impressive for a mobile device, or any device for that matter. While we don’t have any additional details from Gameloft the video does unveil that we can expect to see this epic new FPS hit the iPhone, iPad, and Android this fall.

Android games Bard’s Tale, and Fort Courage hit the NVIDIA TegraZone

In the usual NVIDIA fashion today we have two awesome new games that are launching for Android on the Google Play Store and the NVIDIA TegraZone, exclusively for Tegra 3 smartphones and tablets. NVIDIA has continued to partner with developers and roll out excellent games with stunning graphics and these are no different. The popular PC game Bard’s Tale is making its way to Android, then an exciting new adventure game Fort Courage is launching too. More details below.

Both of these visually stunning new games are launching today, Thursday September 20th, in the Play Store and TegraZone and we have all the details. First we’ll start with Bard’s Tale because for one, it’s awesome, and for two it has some of the best voice-overs I’ve heard in a long while.

Bard’s Tale, from the developers inXile entertainment, you’ll play Bard, a selfish rogue weary of pointless sub-quests and rat-infested cellars. Through song you summon magical characters to join you on your quest for coin… and cleavage! The game is snarky, fresh, and full of comedy. Bard goes on missions all around town, will save the princess if she’s pretty enough, and will battle over 50 different enemies. Bard’s Tale features easily 20-30 hours of deep, fun, and dark humored gameplay. It even has some amazing voice-overs with Hollywood actors such as Cary Elwes.

Bard’s Tale has over a dozen bosses and big enemies to battle, over 150 different unique items such as weapons, armor, tokens, and of course loot. With over 50 achievements, auto-save features, stunning graphics and awesome voice-overs, this game will surely give you fun for the 20-30 hours of game time it’ll take to complete. NVIDIA tells us the Trilogy will be coming to Android soon so stay tuned for more you Bard’s Tale fans! Get Bard’s Tale today right here at the Google Play Store, or NVIDIA TegraZone — priced at $5.99.

Then a second awesome game has also launched for all those Tegra-toting devices. The game above isn’t really for kids perhaps, but this next one surely is. This is called Fort Courage and is from the developers Human Head Studios who brought us Prey, and Prey 2. Fort Courage is an exciting free-to-play 3D adventure of the imagination. You are an imaginative child that falls asleep during class and wakes up in amazing environments full of interaction and 3D movement only available from Tegra 3′s power. Your courage will help you fight off dinosaurs in the jungle, monsters in special laboratories and more.

Fort Courage is available for many Android devices, but Tegra 3 users will enjoy enhanced graphics, more advanced physics, and lifelike movement. Gameplay involves 3 crazy locations, 9 player skins, 10 power-up options, tons of toys for weapons, and over 15 different enemies. While this game isn’t as deep as Bard’s Tale they mention around 80 hours of exciting gameplay to help you pass the time during class.

Fort Courage is completely free-to-play and is available for Android devices today over at the Google Play Store, or as usual from NVIDIA’s TegraZone. For even more awesome NVIDIA Tegra-powered games hit the links below, or take a peek at our Tegra Hub!

Microsoft announces new entertainment and game studio focused on Windows 8 tablet development

Microsoft announces new entertainment and game studio focused on Windows 8 tablet developmentWindows 8 slates are riding a wave of 40 Xbox titles into an October launch, and now Microsoft has laid the foundation to deliver more games with a brand new studio focused on tablet development. The currently unnamed, London-based outfit will be headed by former Rare Production Director Lee Schuneman, who has shepherded Kinect Sports titles, the Xbox 360 Avatars, Fable: The Journey and the Xbox’s Sky TV app to completion. Slabs running Redmond’s latest OS won’t see a project from the team for a while, however, as the studio is still looking for new hires and won’t open its doors until November.

Atari 2600s get PC innards, 22,857 times more processing power

Atari 2600s get PC innards, 22,857 times more processing power

Atari games redesigned in HTML 5 may bring back a flood of nostalgia, but they leave out a key part of the gaming experience: the classic hardware. Hard Drives Northwest filled that void by gutting a limited number of authentic Atari 2600s and stuffing them with modern PC components. Packing a Core i7 3.4GHz processor, the retro console now boasts 22,857 times more processing power than it did in its heyday, according to Microsoft’s calculations — more than enough oomph to handle the recent remakes. Other internals include 8GB of RAM, a 120GB SSD and a Radeon HD 6570 graphics card with 1GB of video memory. With support for USB 3.0 and 2.0, eSATA, DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI, the system is well stocked on the connectivity front. Finally, the signature of Atari founder Nolan Bushnell acts as the cherry atop the faux wood grain-toting package. While the souped-up machines aren’t up for sale, a pair of them are slated for a giveaway. Glamour shots and the full set of specs await you at the source.

'More than 50 games' launching alongside Wii U this November

When Nintendo’s Wii U launches this November in the US and EU, it’s bringing “more than 50” launch window games — what that “launch window” means, exactly, is another question altogether. Nintendo’s leading the lineup with a variety of its own games, though publishers Activision and Ubisoft are certainly leading the charge in terms of sheer number of games. A variety of high-profile cross platform ports are heading to the Wii U, from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to Madden NFL 13. And yes, Nintendo’s bringing plenty of its stalwart franchises to the launch, including New Super Mario Bros. Head past the break for the full list shown during today’s New York City press conference.

Neo Geo X handheld gets standalone $130 price tag

Neo Geo X handheld gets standalone $130 price tag

If you wanted to relive your past arcade glories, but weren’t looking for a whole peripheral package, the Neo Geo X is now going to let you do that. While the forthcoming handheld was expected to arrive bundled with nostalgia-tinged hardware, a lower-priced solo handheld is also on the cards. Priced at $130, the makers aren’t divulging any more detail on 4.3-inch handheld’s precise launch date, but we’d guess that the single unit will match the pricier bundle’s December launch date.

The 10-foot UI hopes to help Valve’s content distribution portal get comfortable in front of your couch, offering gamers access to their favorite PC titles from a gamepad-friendly interface. We piped the beta out to our own living room to take a look, and weren’t surprised to find a sleek attractive UI with a heap of polish. That said, we were glad we didn’t leave our mouse and keyboard at the office.
