Escape for Google Glass brings casual gaming to explorers (hands-on)

Escape for Google Glass is casual gaming for Explorers

You know what’s not new? Android games. You know what is new? Games for Google Glass. There has been the odd attempt so far, but french-based game developer AMA is porting one of its bonafide titles over to the small screen for real. Escape! is a simple puzzler, the sort that we’re all familiar with on our phones, that is being squeezed into the wearable format. While games on the hardware might be something of an inevitability, we managed to get our eyes inside a pair to take a better look for ourselves. Head past the break to see how it worked out.

Plantronics’ $130 Rig gaming headset hones in on the mobile gaming crowd

    DMP

We’ve known Plantronics to craft solid PC gaming headsets and now, separate from the GameCom series, its new Rig package aims to appease gamers on every platform. The stereo headset itself features a slim profile with circumarual earcups that fold flat and it connects with two included cables: one features a boom mic, while the other packs an in-line remote and mic for smartphones. The heart of the setup lies within a wired mixer, which’ll let you hook up your cellphone, gaming rig (computer or console via USB and Toslink) and the headset simultaneously.

Aside from a slider that lets you adjust the balance of game and chat volume (à la Astro’s Mixamp), you can answer phone calls and re-route the mic as necessary at the press of a rocker switch. What’s more, game audio (including chat) can be mixed into your headset during calls and visa versa via a second balance slider. Lastly, you’ll have a choice of three EQ profiles, including a bass boost for extra wubs. Rig will hit retailers in the fall for $130, and we’re told future products under the moniker will drop beyond that. Full press release after the break.

Sony strikes broadband deals for PS4: Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin Media and more (update: UK details)

    PS4 broadband deals

Sony knows that high-speed internet access is vital to the PS4’s success, but that level of service isn’t always guaranteed in Europe. To solve this problem, the company is striking deals for PS4-friendly internet access with a slew of European providers. Ono, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin Media are some of the first confirmed partners. Details of the partnerships are scarce at present, although the companies involved suggest that Sony’s ISP agreements will at least cover bigger European countries like France, Germany, Spain and the UK.

Update: Virgin Media adds that it’s the only UK partner.

Sony lands key deals for PS4 and PS Vita indie games: Rogue Legacy, Hotline Miami 2 and more

Sony has long argued that the PS4 and PS Vita are indie-friendly consoles, and it’s backing up words with deeds at Gamescom. The company has landed a PS4 exclusive for the console version of Rogue Legacy. Both the PS4 and Vita are also getting a new version of The Binding of Isaac (called Rebirth), while a new N+ (N++) game is coming to PlayStation hardware. In a few cases, Sony will get first crack at some anticipated games — a Hotline Miami sequel and Guns of Icarus Online will make their console debuts on the PS4 and PS Vita. If your tastes in games venture beyond the mainstream, Sony may have you covered for the foreseeable future.

Battlefield 4 beta launching in early October

Battlefield 4 beta launching in early October

Battlefield 4 has already gotten a bit of love at this year’s Gamescom, being named as one of 23 Xbox One launch titles, but the shooter had even more time to shine as one of the titles that took center stage at EA’s press event. At the top of the list of announcements for the FPS was a bit more specificity around when we’re actually going to see the beta. The fall date that we got back in March has been narrowed down to early October, which should give you just about enough time to perfect your aim.
