Pro Controller U For Wii & Wii U

Avid gamers will know that there is nothing quite like having a decent set of hardware or peripherals to go along with your video game console, as sometimes, the stock controller might be decent enough to use, but you feel as though it lacks a certain sense of “Oomph!” that you would like to see and feel. Thinkgeek has got your back with the $39.99 Pro Controller U For Wii & Wii U, as this multi-function controller does not only play nice with both the Wii and Wii U, but it will also be able to handle games on the Android platform too, now how about that?

The Pro Controller U will merge a Wiimote and Wii Classic Controller, and when it functions with an Android-powered device, it will rely on Bluetooth connectivity to get the job done. Specially manufactured to be sturdy in nature, this third-party device is comfortable to hold, accurate, and pretty clever. All it takes is a switch flip and your Wii U will detect it as a Wiimote. Flip the same switch the other way, and the Wii U will be fooled into thinking that it is a Wii classic controller. As for the D-Pad, it is ideal for any Virtual Console title, letting you fire out hadoukens with impunity.

Razer Edge gets March 1st pre-order date

Boy, how time flies when you are having fun – or not. I digress, it was just last month in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the folks over at Razer took the opportunity to announce that they have successfully put together all the best elements possible of a gaming notebook/tablet, taking input from hardcore gamers who know best what they want, and asking the engineering team to conjure a miracle, resulting in the announcement of the Razer Edge. Well, we did take a good look at its specifications back then, but there is no harm in going through the list again considering how Razer has just placed the Razer Edge on pre-order from March 1st, and shipping it set to commence sometime later in the same month. It is definitely going to be an interesting gaming spring and summer, for sure!

Razer did say that all purchased units during the pre-order period will be shipped to consumers later that very same month, and we do wonder whether there will be enough supply to keep up with voracious demand, assuming that happens, of course. The Razer Edge is touted to be the most powerful tablet in the world, and before it is even released to the mass market, you might be interested to know that it has already picked up its fair share of awards, having swept eight gongs at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where among them include CNET’s “Best of Show” award.

Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director, had this to add about the Razer Edge, “The Razer Edge combines the features of full-functioning PCs, touch-enabled tablets and gaming consoles into one incredible, portable form factor. Furthermore, the Razer Edge’s powerful chipset, unique among all tablet computers, ensures that you can take advantage of the world’s most sophisticated games, programs and apps on these multiple platforms anytime.”

The Razer Edge will be powered by an Intel i5 processor and have a 64GB SSD, while the Razer Edge Pro sports an Intel i7 processor with an option for a 128GB or 256GB SSD. Its gamepad controller, home console dock and extended battery accessories will also be up for pre-order at the same time, although the optional keyboard dock is due for a launch in Q3 later this year. Prices for the Razer Edge begins at $999 and goes north from there.

Sony PS4 announced

The next cycle of home console gaming (the high end side of things, of course, as Nintendo had already rolled out their Nintendo Wii U from last year onwards which frankly, was rather disappointing in terms of specifications as well as performance, once again leaning on the strength of Nintendo’s library and relatively low price point to pull it through the next round of next-gen console gaming) is set to arrive, with Sony throwing down the gauntlet with an announcement of their PlayStation 4, or PS4 for short.

The PS3 has aged gracefully over the past few years of course, but it is time for the old to go, and the new to come. According to Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, “The living room is no longer the center of the PlayStation universe, the gamer is. We believe that PlayStation 4 represents a shift from thinking of a box or console.”

PlayStation 4′s lead system architect Mark Cerny has mentioned that Sony, being a company that does not rest on their laurels, have already begun to work on the PS4 shortly after the release of the PlayStation 3, with the ultimate purpose of creating a console for developers, and by developers. You will find a completely updated user interface in addition to a bunch of new features that range from an updated controller to social features which cannot be found on other consoles – or at least, Sony hopes so.

There will be a new and updated DualShock 4 controller, and the PS4 will carry an X86 processor, packed with an enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB of high-speed unified memory. The new DualShock 4 controller sports a touchpad (hmmm, a page from Nintendo’s book?), a share button, and a headphone jack. There is also a light bar located on the back of the controller that will help you identify different players, while a 3D camera on the console is capable of tracking controllers connected to the console.

When can you pick up a PS4? Sony cited a “holiday 2013″ date, so now would be a good time to start saving up for one when the time arrives.

CM Storm RX gaming surfaces help up your game

Gamers, especially those hardcore ones, do take their gaming sessions seriously, and winning or losing is sometimes equated to a matter of life or death. Of course, the normal, Temple Run-playing world would not think that way, but if you have spoken to professional gamers or those who aspire to be one and are proud to be associated with a gaming “clan”, then you can see where their passion lie when you start to talk about the kind of hardware used, in addition to the best peripherals that suit their gaming style. When it comes to gaming mice, those are dime a dozen, but a mousing surface? That is a little bit trickier, and if you are curious to give a less established name a go, then the CM Storm RX gaming surfaces from Cooler Master would definitely be worth checking out.

First of all, there is the Control-RX that was specially designed for low DPI gamers, sporting a smooth Lycra surface as well as effortless glide touch to deliver maximum area for precise movement, not to mention the most accurate sensor readings so that you will be able to avoid certain issues such as in-game jittering. There is an anti-slip polyurethane base to ensure that the pad remains in place during intense firefights, while an extra thick, water resistant design helps make longer gaming sessions a whole lot more comfortable.

As for the Power-RX, this particular gaming surface relies on Cooler Master’s very own Surgical Strike Surface construction, which is a finely textured area that will enable one to execute precise and intricate movements without missing a beat. You should be able to call upon your reserves of strength as you persevere through each battle thanks to this specifically formulated material which also doubles up as a water resistant guard against splashes, spills, and sweat.

Of course, there is also the Speed-RX fo you to consider, where it was specially designed for high-grade optical gaming sensors, although those who use laser sensors will not feel out of place as well. Equipped with a microscopic synthetic mesh for optimum precision and reduced drag, there is an accompanying aggressive non-slip rubber base, coupled with a 5mm thick cushion. Thanks to a triple layer heat bonding process, you end up with a durable gaming pad that delivers when it matters the most. The Control-RX and Power-RX will retail for $34.99, while the Speed-RX is going for a more affordable $24.99.

A Virtual Archer’s Dream

Games become more virtual by the day, wouldn’t you agree? Every gaming system and game designer is out to get users more immersed in the entire experience. And yet how much time do we spend gaming on phones – which will never be able to fully immerse us. Or will they?

Bow Active Gaming wants to change our smartphone game-playing experience. Their BowBlade device, recently shown at MacWorld, proves to revolutionize iOS and Android games. Over 35 apps currently involve target shooting or sniper based themes that are enabled with BowBlade – a life sized replication of a bow.  Simply pop your phone into the holder and use this archery accessory to really simulate the process of shooting a bow. Set your game up, rotate the bow to move direction – just as you would with your phone in your hands. Then pull the trigger at your finger to fire a arrow (ok, it is actually a stylus tip) onto your screen.   Construction enables a true taught feel when drawing the bow too, so you will feel like Robin Hood or Katniss or your favorite arching character. That’s not all BowBlade does either. For game systems folks, connect to Wii (with upcoming Nintendo mount) and planned PlayStation and Xbox games. And yes, BowBlade’s tension also enables it to be used as a strength training device. All of this will be available later this Spring starting at $145 for the gaming option or $185 for gaming plus exercise blades. Pre-order on their website and get ready to rock out your archery games like never before.

Wikipad gaming tablet hits the market

Ah, to be a child again. They say that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so what better way to ensure that Jack does not end up being dull than by indulging in a little bit of games? This is what the Wikipad tablet does, running on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, and not not slouching when it comes to the kind of hardware required in order to get the latest games up and running. In fact, Wikipad is touted to be the first 7” tablet of its kind that will deliver what it claims to be an unrivaled gaming experience of a console, although you do get to enjoy the portability of a handheld device with the functionality of a premium tablet, which is all made possible courtesy of its unique attachable game controller. The asking price for the Wikipad? A mere $249, which clearly makes it an extremely attractive proposition.

Fraser Townley, President of Sales, Wikipad, Inc., said, “We wanted to get Wikipad into our community’s hands and what we found was that the smaller 7” form factor just seemed right. The smaller frame delivers an aggressive price while keeping the same amazing specs.”

Well, just what kind of hardware does the 7” Wikipad pack underneath the hood? Apart from its award winning attachable dual-analog controller on the outside, you will find a premium 7″ IPS touchscreen display that will be accompanied by 16GB of internal memory alongside a microSD memory card slot just in case all of that space is not enough for you to tote around your favorite movies and songs. Crammed within its ultra-light and thin chassis would also be the venerable NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor that has been specially optimized for cloud gaming, and with an aspect ratio of 16:10, you can be sure that the Wikipad tablet will deliver true widescreen HD display.

Those who decide to pick up the Wikipad will not come up short where games and apps are concerned, as you will be able to have access to entertainment and videogame content from differnt partners and services such as PlayStation Mobile, Big Fish Games, TegraZone – NVIDIA’s free app, Google Play, and OnLive among many others. When the gamepad controller remains detached, the Wikipad would make for an above average tablet, wherever you are. Any takers?

God of War: Ascension bundle comes with Garnet Red PS3

What is your first memory or experience with the God of War series? I don’t suppose it is a “love it or hate it” case with this kind of hack-and-slash title, and there is a visceral sense about it, too. Having said that, I did enjoy the game a whole lot, and my personal favorite is the one on the PSP – don’t ask me why, I am just rather partial to gaming on the mobile front more than using a home video game console. Having said that, fans of the God of War franchise will be pleased to hear that God of War: Ascension’s arrival at stores this coming March 12th will be commemorated with the introduction of a limited edition God of War: Ascension Legacy Bundle just in case you have not yet, for some strange reason or another, picked up a PS3 console after all these years.

If you happen to have $349 to spare, then you would be pleased to hear that this is how much the God of War: Ascension limited edition bundle will cost you. For starters, there will be a 500GB Garnet Red PlayStation 3 system packed inside, coupled with the whole God of War storyline that will include the new God of War: Ascension and of course, the God of War Saga (which comprises of all five of the previous games from the franchise). The complete God of War game collection will definitely roll back the years for some of you fans out there, as you can relive your favorite series moments with the God of War Saga, which comprises of God of War, God of War II, God of War III, and God of War: Origins Collection, which consists of God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

Genius Gila gaming mouse

One word in a particular language might mean an entirely different name in another, and I do wonder whether Genius of Taiwan did their research before they decided to christen their latest 12-Button professional gaming mouse as the flagship model for the GX Gaming Series as the Genius Gila. Basically, “Gila” means crazy, insane, or mad in the context of the Malay language, and I guess if you were to look at it positively, sometimes gamers refer to one another as having “mad skillz” which would mean they are extremely far up in the skill tree, which is meant to be a compliment. Ah well, what else do we know about the Genius Gila? Read on to find out!

The Genius Gila is a 2013 CES Innovations Award Honoree, and it is headed to the North American market, although I am quite sure that if you were to live outside of North America and want one, you can always import it. Touted to deliver unparalleled precision and comfort, the Genius GX Gaming Series Gila is also said to be the “ultimate configurable gaming mouse.” Not too sure if that holds true or not, as you would need to get used to the dozen buttons on the Gila which can be tweaked according to your preferences.

Features on the Genius Gila include on-the-fly DPI changes (200 to 8200), weights that cater to different people for the “feel” of the mouse, adjustable levels for the LED brightness, pulsation and color, in addition to programming your own macros for a personalized playing style.

FPS gamers will find the Gila’s “Sniper Mode” to be ideal, as it slows down mouse movements to a dpi of your choice as long as you hold down the assigned button. I guess this is more science than a reflex flick of the wrist, leading to less impressive shots compared to yesteryears. Who can forget those flick, fire and forget rail shots in Quake 3 that needed no sissy zoom? How about the original Half Life that saw the quick zoom in of the crossbow before letting a shot loose and zooming out to follow it up with a grenade from the machine gun? We skilled gamers didn’t need such tools, and it sure as heck impressed far more back then.

I guess things work differently now, and the Genius GX Gaming Series Gila can be yours for $99.99 if you are interested.
