Razer DeathAdder mouse gets an update

Just how do you improve on something that is deemed to be already perfect? Well, I guess the answer is pretty simple – technology and time would have progressed to turn where what was perfect as obsolete, and here we are with an update of the Razer DeathAdder mouse which is touted to deliver additional power, superior performance as well as more control than ever before. The house of trusted and proven gaming peripherals, Razer, has just announced that they have delivered an update to the hugely popular Razer DeathAdder mouse, and it is being set for launch.

The first release of the Razer DeathAdder happened half a dozen years ago – which is a really, really long time in the world of technology. Well, until now, it has remained as the best-selling gaming mouse in the world, and has seen use by countless pro gamers throughout the years in the circuit as their preferred weapon of annihilation – or defense, depending on the situation, of course.

Well, the spanking new Razer DeathAdder’s optical sensor has been given a nice kick in the butt, where it has been upgraded from 3.5G all the way to a cutting-edge 4G infrared sensor. Needless to say, this upgrade would mean improved performance and precision, where it is touted to be the world’s most powerful optical sensor, being able to achieve up to 6400 dpi resolution without having to sacrifice the natural tracking feel of an optical sensor, and neither does it yield the robotic sensation of a comparable laser option.

Coming in its iconic right-handed ergonomic shape, this is definitely a drawback for southpaws. After all, only right handers are able to use the new DeathAdder (and the old, of course), but the hardware now features a built-in textured rubber side grips to deliver better mouse control and grip. Synapse 2.0 support has also been thrown into the mix, and the new Razer DeathAdder will retail for $69.99 if you live Stateside, or if you are residing across the pond, it will cost you €69.99.

Game On. Anywhere.

Remember your first game system? Atari was mine. On my one hour bus ride home after school the excitement would build. As soon as I walked in the door I b-lined for the TV. Aaaaah. It was a treat to be able to play games at home. But these days it is a treat to play games anywhere. I’m beginning to believe people log more game time on their phones than in their homes some days.

Since gaming has gone so mobile PowerA – builders of video game accessories – devised a full featured way to play on your phone.  The MOGA Mobile Gaming System, $49.99 at Amazon, puts a natural feeling Bluetooth controller in your hands. Built for Android 2.3+ phones, MOGA can easily hold the largest phone on the market by just snapping it in. Controls include dual analog sticks, 4 action buttons, shoulder triggers and start/select. Rubberized grips make it easy to hold and you will get 18 hours of play with 2 AAA batteries. PowerA also realized the opportunity and forged relationships with most major game makers to make the mobile experience more like the home experience.  Over 40 games are currently “MOGA enhanced” to give more precision and control. All games are accessible via their Pivot app, available for free at Google Play. With innovations like MOGA it appears that the mobile gaming experience will continue to evolve. Who knows, maybe someday the experience will rival home gaming.

MSI GX60 gaming notebook

When it comes to gaming notebooks, there seems to be one constant equation that remains in the picture – the gaming notebook is not only large and bulky, it is also heavy to tote around, hence we do not recommend you bring a gaming notebook if you are going to cover a show like CES on your own – your back will thank you for it, and I admit that toting around an Ultrabook or MacBook Air makes a whole lot more sense (as well as make you look more stylish, for sure!). Well, folks who cannot tear themselves away from their gaming adventures while they are on the go can settle for the MSI GX60 gaming notebook, where it is touted to armed with state of the art components.

For instance, you will be able to find AMD Trinity A10 quad-core processors underneath the hood, accompanied by the AMD Radeon HD 7970M GPU, a Killer E2200 Game Networking and Steel Series Gaming Keyboard, making it more than the ideal choice for gamers who want a machine that not only delivers high-performance, and yet it does not burn that large a hole in your pockets or deplete your bank account in the blink of an eye.

As a member of MSI’s award-winning G Series of gaming notebooks, the MSI GX60 is no slouch, delivering exceptional gaming experience thanks to a combination of high-performance components and proprietary technology. WIth MSI’s exclusive TDE (GPU Overclocking) Cooler Boost Technology, you are able to enjoy one-touch performance boost while AMD’s Eyefinity, a stereoscopic 3D technology, prepares the path ahead for users to run multiple independent display outputs – all of it simultaneously.

Available from this week onwards, the MSI GX60 will be equipped with a Blu-ray disc reader, a 1920×1080 anti-reflection screen which further reduces eyestrain while widening the field of view, a 9-cell battery that ought to be suitable for extended mobile gaming sessions, and gold coated audio jacks (Audio Boost) for crystal clear and high fidelity sound among others. Are you interested in picking one up for yourself?

Angry Birds Star Wars makes a landing, the Egg is strong in this one

Do you find it rather interesting that a game like Angry Birds have actually branched out to be such a phenomenally successful gaming franchise, so much so that I believe anything else that Rovio releases (which they did with Amazing Alex) will never be able to live up to the Angry Birds folklore and reputation. In fact, you can call Angry Birds as the Golden Goose of Rovio, and another golden egg has just been laid – this time around merging with yet another hugely successful movie franchise that was recently sold to Disney – Star Wars. What do you get when you put two and two together? Why, Angry Birds Star Wars, of course!

It should not be too difficult to find someone who is a fan of both Angry Birds and Star Wars, and you would be pleased to hear that Angry Birds Star Wars is now available for download over from the Windows Phone 8 Store. Basically, both Red Bird and Pink Bird have undergone an epic transformation in their timeless (and endless, at this point in time) battle against the Bad Piggies. Be prepared to go on an intergalactic adventure by grabbing your lightsaber, although it does make me wonder just how birds are able to grasp a lightsaber considering they lack the necessary digits to do so save for feathers.

You will be able to visit iconic Star Wars locations such as Tatooine, the Death Star and the beyond. After downloading the game, in can be installed right away.

For folks who are still running on Windows Phone 7.5, there might be hope for you just yet as there is a possibility of Angry Birds Star Wars arriving on that particular platform. The thing is, both Rovio and Nokia want to do everything in their power to ensure that the Angry Birds Star Wars experience on the older version of Windows Phone will not arrive gimped, making sure that some semblance of quality control has been put in as well. Keep your feathers crossed, folks!

If you are a gamer, odds are that you have ditched out on something to get more game time. Dinner at your parents perhaps. Maybe a work event. Or how about studying. Playing video games is sort of the devil on the shoulder sometimes isn’t it? We know there are more productive things to do and yet most players log at least 10 hours a week.

Stop by their page any time before the end of December and give them your best or worst excuses used to give you more gaming time. The player with the best confession will be rewarded big time. How big? A trip for two to electronics heaven, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, next January. ThatWeekly prizes are also being given away. So think back on all the events you bailed on for the sake of your PC or gaming system and come to Sennheiser Gaming confession.

Roccat launches Kone XTD and Pure models

German computer peripherals manufacturer Roccat is most famous for their range of gaming mice and keyboards, and this time around, they have introduced a couple of new models for the masses – the Roccat Kone XTD and Pure models. Both mice will continue to retain the famous Kone form factor, features as well as performance, where the Roccat Pure will boast of a profile that is 9% slimmer than before while sporting a new Roccat Titan Wheel and Click Master switch tech. Hey, if you are in the market for a new mouse (or two), you might as well see what Roccat has to offer and who knows, it might just prove to be a union with your hand that you will not regret.

The Roccat Kone XTD has been dubbed by some to be the “Max Customization Gaming Mouse”, while the Roccat Kone Pure is known as the “Core Performance Gaming Mouse”, where both of the new mice should have already hit Europe since October 26th onwards, while folks living in North America as well as Asia will only be on the receiving end of them before December rolls around.

In terms of performance, we are looking at world beaters here, where you will be able to experience a fully-adjustable 8200 DPI ProAim R3 laser sensor that boasts of a whopping 41 DPI settings that range from 200 to 8200, in addition to a 32-bit Turbo Core V2 72MHz ARM MCU processor, 576KB of on-board memory, as well as what Roccat deems to be the most advanced Tracking & Distance Control Unit in the world. All of the components are said to function in clockwork unison, delivering the world’s most impressive speed, control and accuracy. Of course, all of the above mentioned might just be marketing speak, and even if it is true, you will still need to give either mouse a test run before you agree with the conclusions.

After all, a gaming mouse is a very personal piece of equipment, and different gamers play games differently, so the way they wield their mice is not the same as the gamer sitting next to them.

ROCCAT introduces a no-fray gaming mousepad, the Hiro 3D Supremacy

You can ask a gamer to go without a bath for a few days or perhaps just to exist on nothing but pepperoni pizza and fizzy drinks as their staple diet, but don’t ever, ever ask the gamer to use someone else’s rig for more than a day. It is somewhat akin to asking a Formula 1 driver to sit in the cockpit of somebody else’s car and ordering them to win the race. It just does not work, as a gaming rig is a very personal machine, one that has been built from the ground up to cater to one’s whims and fancies (according to the budget on hand, of course). Having said that, one important gaming accessory that should not be overlooked would be the mousepad. After all, once you have a top notch gaming mouse, you might as well go the whole nine yards and ensure your high end gaming mouse will glide along effortlessly on a surface worthy of its Teflon feet. Enter the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy Surface Gaming Mousepad.

This puppy hails from Germany, and is not quite ready for prime time action just yet. In fact, you will have to go through this Thanksgiving and Christmas without the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy in your stable of gaming peripherals, as it will only arrive in North America sometime in January next year. This is no ordinary gaming mousepad, as it opens up the category for a new high-performance cloth gaming pad. The main selling point? This is the world’s first mousepad that relies on an advanced new manufacturing process which results in smooth, rounded edges that will not ever fray, even after weeks and months of (abuse) extended use. The build process has been patented, creating an inseparable “power bond” between upper and lower surfaces so that this mousepad delivers unrivaled durability.

As for its gaming surface, the ROCCAT Hiro 3D Supremacy changes the game yet again, boasting of an exclusive vulcanized silicone playing field that sports a complex 3D structure, which ROCCAT claims will be able to deliver significantly increased gliding speed and control on both the X and Y axis. In short, your hand will be able to enjoy the ultimate command capability during even the most demanding of gaming sessions. Too bad there is no word on pricing at press time, but we do hope to find out more.

Pac-Man Plug ‘n’ Play

There is just something about retro designs and in this case, video games that tug at one’s heart strings. Most of us would have been exposed to video games at an early age via classics such as Galaga, Dig Dug and Pac-Man. Who could forget the “wakka-wakka” sound generated by this pseudo pie chart, gobbling up pills in a maze while trying to avoid ghosts from hunting it down? Here is a modern take on the retro Pac-Man, coming in the form of the £34.99 Pac-Man Plug ‘n’ Play.

The Pac-Man Plug ‘n’ Play, in essence, is a console that has been shaped to look like Pac-Man’s head; boasting authentic arcade controls. All you need to get going is an actual display, so it should not be too hard to find one unused display in the vicinity in this day and age. Some of the classic games included in the Pac-Man Plug ‘n’ Play console would be Galaga, New Rally-X and Dig Dug among the dozen original 8-bit titles. Just make sure that you have 4 AA batteries to keep it going, and we would recommend using rechargeables if you think that you are going to spend a lot of time with this puppy.
