Comrad Gaming Helmet makes in-game communication a snap

comrad-gaming-helmetRemember the good old days when you were playing a networked game, and the only way you could communicate with you teammates was by shouting to them across the room in a LAN setup, or if it was based on an Internet connection, you hit the “T” button on your keyboard in order to type whatever you wanted to say? Well, in-game communication as well as the speed of Internet connectivity has improved by leaps and bounds over the years, allowing one to speak naturally over the microphone while the rest of the team gets the message. In order to ensure a crystal clear message, the proper hardware needs to be in place, and this is where the likes of the $59.99 Comrad Gaming Helmet gets the job done.

Not only that, the Comrad Gaming Helmet also adds that touch of realism by resembling that of an actual soldier’s helmet, now how about that? It is ideal for the hardcore military gaming addict as it delivers a fully-immersive FPS audio experience. There would be on helmet master audio volume, separate chat volume, and mute button controls, not to mention wireless speakers, ensuring that you can trash talk all you want – hands-free! It basically works with the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, PC, or Mac without breaking a sweat, and will also play nice with Oculus Rift when it arrives.

Hauppauge launches HD PVR Rocket for consoles

hauppauge_hdpvr_rocket_hdrHauppauge, a name that most of us would be familiar with, is back with yet another device which will further expand its video recorder family after launching their HD PVR Rocket at Paris Games Week recently. You might sit back and roll your eyes, wondering just what the big deal is when it comes to “yet another” video recorder. Well, here is the kicker – the HD PVR Rocket happens to be able to record video game play from PlayStation, Xbox and PC gaming consoles, and it will also be able to do so in Full HD resolution, now how about that? This would make the HD PVR Rocket as the ultimate portable video recorder since it is tiny enough to fit into your hand. Just how light is it? Try 4.6 oz for size.

Recording video is not all that the HD PVR Rocket does, it also comes with a built-in audio mixer and sports a USB port the avid gamer is able to plug in a USB thumb drive in order to record game play. Since USB thumb drives are just about dirt cheap these days, and you will most probably have amassed quite a collection of them from trade shows, a 16GB capacity USB thumb drive is said to be able to stash away up to 4 hours of video game play at an HD resolution of 1080p when plugged into the HD PVR Rocket.

The HD PVR Rocket might sound rather familiar to some, but that is because it follows in the footsteps of the HD PVR 2, which was first introduced in September last year. The HD PVR 2 then was the highest quality video game recorder on the market, but it required either a PC or Mac to store video recordings. With the HD PVR Rocket, you no longer need to take that particular route since it functions as a standalone device, and will not require a computer of any kind to perform a recording.

Expect the HD PVR Rocket to arrive in Europe from November 15 onward, as it bears a recommended retail price of 169 euros, while those living in North America will have to fork out the equivalent in dollars.

Feenix announces the 2014 Nascita gaming mouse

Feenix-Nascita-and-DimoraWhen it comes to gaming peripherals, there is quite a fair number of companies who have been churning out quality devices from time to time. Feenix is not exactly one of the more famous players out there, but that does not mean that they are unable to deliver the kind of reliability and performance that gamers love to have. Ashkon Shayani, Creative Director, shared, “Everything in gaming had always looked exactly the same; it was black with loud red or green lights around it. There was no simplicity or elegance to it. Our main goals at Feenix are design and quality. Our instruments deliver the best gaming experience possible and sleek designs that fit right into any home or office.”

The 2014 Nascita’s form factor is said to deliver a perfect ergonomic feel, which is a rather bold claim. After all, when it comes to holding a mouse, there are different ways of doing so, and gamers will tell you that they tend to fall into one of these three categories – palm, claw, or semi-claw gamer. However, the 2014 Nascita touts that it will be able to cater to all three types of gamers without missing a beat. The mouse itself will be 100% driverless, where gamers are able to perform hardware adjustments without having to make use of unnecessary software. Feenix has made use of the latest chipsets and sensor technologies for a 8200 dpi laser engine to deliver seamless accuracy and tracking.

There is also the state of the art Omron switches that paves the way for swift clicking with a 10 million click lifetime, while its in-mouse LCD technology lets gamers read information and are able to accurately adjust DPI on the fly. Just in case you happen to have sweaty palms during a fierce shoot-out, the mouse’s anti-sweat and anti-slip surface material will ensure you have a comfortable feel always.

All of the above can be yours for $97 if you are interested in the 2014 Nascita gaming mouse from Feenix.

GameCase iOS game controller brings mobile gaming to the next level

gamecaseWhen the iPhone 5s was first announced, one of the things that blew away the audience was the fact that its 64-bit processor, working in tandem with some great coding, could deliver some high quality graphics in a game. Of course, a full touchscreen display is not going to be optimal when it comes to some of the more complex games out there, not to mention you would always have a finger (or two) appearing on the display, blocking out your view in select parts that might just dampen your portable gaming experience. What is needed would be a physical controller, and this is where the GameCase iOS game controller comes in handy.

The GameCase is meant to propel mobile gaming to unprecedented heights, where it will redefine the way games are played on the iPad as well as iPhone. Harnessing the power of iOS 7 as well as Apple’s new MFi controller framework, you can more or less say that GameCase is here to usher in a new era of mobile gaming. Whenever you game on your iOS 7-powered device with the GameCase hooked up, it offers a natural and familiar console quality feel. Sporting a couple of analog sticks and tactile buttons, it would be able to provide an increased level of accuracy and precision.

Apart from that, there is also a thoughtfully crafted design as well as non-slip rubber surface which will alleviate fatigue, paving the way for hours of comfortable and competitive play – as long as your device’s battery lasts, of course. Right now, GameCase and iOS developers are working together in order to roll out exciting new games which will be able to take advantage of the device’s incredible features.

There is still no word on pricing just yet, however, but would you be willing to pick up the GameCase when it is finally made available to the masses?

Hyperkin’s RetroN 5 console slated for December 10 release

retron5Video game consoles – those have been playing nanny to your kids all summer long for as long as one can remember. Of course, the Atari 2600 has been a reference point for many of us older folk, before we “graduated” to the likes of the NES, and that was before the 16-bit revolution turned the world upside down with its snazzy graphics (and of course, the gameplay did go some way in helping keep us glued in front of the TV screen). Fast forward to this day and age, where Full HD graphics are considered to be compulsory if a game were to “make it”, so to speak. We also know that two highly anticipated consoles will roll out in the US before the year is over – the Xbox One from Microsoft, and the PS4 from Sony. What happens when you have an inkling for a blast from the past? This is where Hyperkin’s RetroN 5 console comes in, where it has been tagged with a December 10, 2013 official release date.

The RetroN 5 will certainly love to accept the entire collection of old school game cartridges, since it will be compatible with the following old school consoles – NES, SNES, Genesis and GBA cartridges. I guess it is time to break open that box in the attic, blow the dust off, and then start giving it a go to roll back those years with your first memory of Mario Kart racing, or the incorporation of Mode 7 on SNES titles. The RetroN 5 will be released in the US as well as Europe, where it will retail for $99.99 Stateside, while our friends living across the pond will have to pay €89.99.

Since the RetroN 5 was showcased at E3 earlier this year, some key modifications were made to the console, where the shell design would pave the way for better ventilation so that its innards remain nice and cool for a longer time, not to mention making concessions to use the Sega Power Base Converter so that owners of the RetroN 5 are able to enjoy Master System cartridges as well. The RetroN 5 is capable of bypassing any irritating region locks, so go ahead and game away! All purchases will arrive with an AC adapter that is accompanied by a quartet of head sockets to have it fit multiple regions, where the voltage will range from 110 to 240 volts.

alienware-auroraSome gamers like to build their gaming rigs from scratch, as they have plenty of choice and flexibility without busting their budget. Others, however, prefer an established name to get the job done for them already, and most of the time, these high powered gaming machines need very little fine tuning, so to speak, as it already comes with an insane amount of processing muscle underneath the hood. The Alienware Aurora gaming desktop can be considered to be such a device, where it has been specially engineered to deliver extreme performance thanks to the inclusion of the new Ivy Bridge-E family of Intel Core i7 4- and 6-core processors.

Not only that, throwing in next generation NVIDIA and AMD graphics up the ante even more, where it delivers an intense gaming experience with realism that even Alienware themselves have never offered. If you happen to have deep pockets, you might want to settle for the optional ALX chassis that boasts of an intelligent thermal management system with Active Venting technology so that everything will run nice and cool even under demanding gaming sessions.

As mentioned earlier, the Aurora would now include the latest Intel Core i7 processors, with an Extreme Edition option to boot, while they can achieve overclock speeds of up to 4.3GHz with Turbo Boost technology. There is also an updated Alienware Command Center software that offers intuitive, user-friendly access to Alienware-exclusive applications and controls, all located under one centralized hub. The Command Center will be accompanied by the exclusive AlienFX lighting control system, letting you create your own custom lighting themes and special effects for that added “wow” factor, making it ideal to impress your mates. The Alienware Aurora has been made available since September 11 in select territories, with a starting price point of $1,399 upward, depending on the innards that you want it to come with.

Nintendo 2DS arrives, delivers budget gaming in a slate form factor

nintendo-2dsNintendo has always been one to pioneer new ways and methods to play games, and this time around, their most recent console announcement would target the handheld arena instead of the home console segment. The Nintendo 3DS proved to be the most recent addition to the portable handheld console department, delivering 3D graphics to the masses without having to wear an actual pair of 3D glasses, but the Nintendo 3DS has just been superseded by the Nintendo 2DS. No, this is not a typo, and your eyes are not playing tricks on you, but the Nintendo 2DS will ditch the horizontal clamshell form factor that was first introduced via the original Game & Watch family from the Big N, and will instead adopt a slate format which might prove popular with tablet lovers.

The Nintendo 2DS was specially designed in such a way that anyone who wants to jump into the world of Nintendo 3DS games without having to fork out a bomb for it will be happy with the suggested retail price of $129.99 a pop, where it will arrive in either red or blue shades this coming October 12th. Sure, the main reason for calling the Nintendo 2DS as it is, would be the fact that you can forget about any kind of 3D gaming on it, since the display will be an ordinary 2D display. That might be a bummer for some, but hey, think of the far longer lasting battery life since you need not push the display to a different level of performance, and when it comes to engaging games, there is nothing quite like a super long battery life to get the job done.

The Nintendo 2DS is capable of handling the whole library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS, albeit it will arrive in 2D format. The system itself boasts of a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor, while you will also be able to grab hold of optional carrying cases that will come in either red or blue colors at $12.99 each. Most of the Nintendo 3DS’ hardware features will be retained by the Nintendo 2DS, including dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. To sweeten the deal, the Nintendo 2DS is also capable of handling the current library of over 2,000 Nintendo DS titles, now how about that? If you are bored, you can also access wireless connectivity features including multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop.
