If you are an avid gamer, then you would surely have a decent desktop gaming PC configuration set up right at home, complete with its fair share of futuristic looking gaming keyboard and mouse, accompanied by the state of the art gaming speakers to that you can hear the exact spot where your opponent is in a map, before gunning him or her down with that flick of a wrist and press of the mouse button. Of course, not everyone has the kind of time to just sit at home all day long to indulge in playing computer games – some of us have to go through this thing called “work” so that we can make ends meet at the end of the month. Well, how about bringing gaming on the go with you then? This is where MSI comes in, having unveiled their next generation G Series gaming laptops.

One of these gems from the new G Series gaming laptops include the GT70 Extreme Edition that will come with an Intel 4930MX chipset, in addition to showcasing NVIDIA’s latest GeForce GTX 700M Series graphics, Killer Doubleshot and Intel’s 4th Generation Core i7 processors. All of those ought to pack enough graphical and processing firepower even though you are away from home, to handle the latest games, right? Sure, you might not be able to crank things up like your desktop, but the experience comes pretty close in comparison, I am sure.

Not only that, the new G Series gaming laptops will be able to play 4K video at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which happens to be quadruple the amount of time of traditional 1080p high-definition video. The next generation GT and GE models will also come with expanded storage, improved cooling and display outputs. The inclusion of Super RAID 2 has increased the amount of SSD storage from the last generation Super RAID with 3 SSD’s in RAID instead of 2, while Cooler Boost 2 delivers an efficient single fan cooling solution that is capable of lowering the average temperature by a whopping 8⁰ C . Last but not least, the new Matrix Display feature would enable you to have a far more productive day at the office, as you can hook up to 3 external displays so that you end up with a total of up to 4 independent displays, the native notebook display included. Sure, it works great when you are gaming, too.

Just as we knew it would, MSI has formally announced pricing for its newfangled GX70 and GX60 gaming laptops — the world’s first machines to ship with AMD’s Richland A10-5750M (2.5GHz – 3.5GHz) within. The 17.3-inch GX70 offers up a 1,920 x 1,080 native display resolution, AMD’s Radeon HD 8970M on the graphics front, a 750GB hard drive, 8GB of DDR3 memory, a Blu-ray Disc drive, Bluetooth 4.0 and Killer’s E2200 networking technology. You’ll also get a SDXC card slot, HDMI 1.4 socket, 720p webcam, a 9-cell battery — likely good for about 89 seconds of use — a backlit keyboard and a frame that’s 2.17-inches thick and 8.6 pounds. If none of that frightens you, you can plan on parting ways with $1,399.99 to call one your own. The (slightly) more petite GX60 boasts a 15.6-inch panel (still 1080p, though), a 7.7 pound frame and a $1,299.99 price tag. Otherwise, the specifications are essentially identical from its big brother, and both should be shipping any moment now.

These days, carrying a gaming laptop around is not good enough, there is also the status that one wants to show off to the rest of the world. This is said to be less than 50% that of other gaming laptops in the market, automatically placing it on a pedestal as the lowest profile, lightest gaming laptop of its class. All that power without compromising on style and form factor? It certainly can be said to be a pint-sized killer, just like Master Yoda.

Sporting an SSD (solid-state drive) inside that delivers data up to three times faster than traditional hard drives, the Razer Blade will be powered by the latest Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics processor for blistering performance even at high quality resolutions. Not only that, there will be the inclusion of Razer’s multi-award-winning Switchblade UI that integrates a LCD display/multi-touch panel and 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys, letting you have full control of commands and functions within your fingertips. Maingear certainly loves to turn out solidly specificated hardware, and today is no exception. Its latest offering? The Nomad 17. As the name suggests this is a 17-inch notebook for gamers on the go. (Nomad, get it?) The new addition will support third-gen Intel Core i7 chips (up to 3.8GHz) and a maximum 32GB of RAM, with a choice of hard drive configurations. It’s not all about the under-the-hood grunt, though, with Maingear offering a choice of six colors for what it’s calling “hand-painted premium automotive paint jobs.” As for the other spec options? You can expect NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M or 680M graphics, a 1,920 x 1080 display, combo Blue-ray optical drive, b / g / n wireless along with USB 2 / 3, DVI-I, HDMI and Fire Wire ports. So, this definitely sounds like a ride you can make your own. Assuming you’re good with the $1,599 starting sticker price that is.

The 17-inch behemoths that call themselves gaming notebooks are traditionally quite large, trading extreme performance for substantial bulk. These machines routinely flirt with double digit weigh-ins, and flaunt meaty 1.5-plus inch bezels. They represent a unwieldy reality in portable power that most gamers have learned to expect. Not Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, however — he’s still chasing the dream: thin, powerful and sleek. Tan caught up with us this week to brief us on the next generation Razer Blade, a rig that still boldly claims to be the “world’s first true gaming laptop.”

Razer’s first laptop hit shelves earlier this year, packing a 2.8GHz Core i7-2650M CPU and a GeForce GT 555M GPU into a svelte 0.8-inch aluminum shell. Tan explained that the rig’s attractive hull hadn’t changed much, but its internals sure have. “The Blade was our first laptop, and we’ve taken feedback really seriously since then,” the CEO told us. “We’ve been listing to gamers and made a chart of all the pros to keep, and all the cons to address. Every single one of them.” That chart eventually mapped out the refreshed rig’s internals, which include an unannounced Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics, 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM, a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive and 64GB of fast-booting solid state storage. All this comes in the same aluminum shell as the first Blade, of course, sporting a 17.3-inch high definition display and the firm’s exclusive multitouch LCD Switchblade interface. Tan says the new build addresses some of our own complaints too, noting that the sticky hinge that plagued our review unit has been tweaked to bend to a lighter touch. The machine’s internal speakers have been upgraded as well, and are said to be 250% louder with no distortion.

The new Blade’s sharpened specs will come with a price cut, ringing in at a penny under $2,500 — and gamers who picked up its predecessor (which will be getting its own price cut, to $2,299), we were told, can snag one for $500 less. Pre-orders are slated to start on September 2nd, and should ship within 30 days. The new laptop is being unveiled for the first time at PAX Prime this weekend. Not in Seattle for Labor Day?
