I’ve got some bad news for those of you who’ve been waiting for Oculus VR to revolutionize the world of video games – it might not be happening. Earlier today, Facebook acquired the company for $2 billion. Not surprisingly, industry figures and financial analysts alike weren’t exactly pleased.
It’s been a few days since the 2014 Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco drew to a close. It was a big year this time around, with a whole host of awesome announcements, keynotes, and revelations. Now that we’ve all had a few days to process the conference, why not take a look back?
The latest version of the ever-popular Unity game development engine was announced this week at GDC 2014. Unity 5 brings to the table a whole array of significant changes, including a huge update to Unity’s audio and lighting tools as well as 64-bit support. That’s not all it brings, either.
A group of video game and technology companies have banded together to found the Immersive Technology Alliance. This nonprofit group is dedicated to developing games for augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D, and gesture controls. Curiously, Oculus VR is not part of this coalition; no one seems certain why.
