Microsoft Having Active Discussions About Gears Of War’s Future

Microsoft Having Active Discussions About Gears Of Wars FutureThe last Gears of War title that was released was back in 2013 with the Gears of War: Judgment game, and if you were looking forward to the next title, you might want to sit back and get comfortable because it does not appear as though a new title is in development right now. That’s not to say that the franchise will be discontinued, but according to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, it seems that at the moment they are currently having discussions about the future of the franchise, which sounds as though there might not be anything in development for now.

Speaking to the folks at Kotaku, Spencer was quoted as saying, “I’m a huge fan of the franchise […] I want to continue to work with Gears. I think there’s a lot of life left in that franchise. We had an internal discussion on it even yesterday. It’s something that’s active in discussion about what we can do with Gears.” He went on to confirm that there was nothing in the cards at the moment, stating that “there’s nothing even pending that I’m holding to announce.” As it stands the Gears of War franchise has been more or less exclusive to Microsoft’s Xbox and Windows platform, but the semi-good news is that future titles might not necessarily hold onto that exclusivity, with Spencer deferring to Epic games to make that call.

The expansion pack brings an all new game mode called Master at Arms. This particular mode is a free-for-all game mode exclusive to Judgment with the goal of getting a kill with each of the 20 different available weapons. The caveat is that players can’t resort to melee or grenade tactics. As a player scores a kill with each of the weapons, new weapons automatically become available.

Gears of War: Judgment Now Available Exclusively On Xbox 360

Gears of War: Judgment Now Available Exclusively On Xbox 360

Gears of War: Judgment has been a long time coming as the last Gears of War game, Gears of War 3, was released back in September 2011. The launch of a Gears of War game outside of the holiday season is certainly one Gears fans aren’t too familiar with, but we’re sure you’ll adapt to it quickly considering today’s release gave you more time for other holiday games, like Halo 4.

Gears of War: Judgment is the first game in the series to not only be a prequel, but it also doesn’t have you playing as Marcus or Dominic, two characters that have been been recognized as the heart and soul behind the Gears franchise. In Judgment, you follow the story of Kilo Squad which brings back fan favorites Damon Baird and Augustus Cole, while also introducing two new characters to the Gears of War games, Sofia Hendrick and Garron Paduk.

The game’s multiplayer will also introduce some firsts as Judgment will include a number of new and classic multiplayer modes that include competitive modes such as OverRun, Domination, Free-for-All and Team Deathmatch, as well as a new co-op game type called Survival.

Gears Of War: Judgment Cinematic Trailer Highlights Emergence Day

Gears of War: Judgment is just a week and a half away from its release, which means we can expect to learn a little bit more about Kilo Squad before the events that occurred during Gears of War even happened. The game takes place immediately after Emergence Day and its Kilo Squad’s mission, nay, their duty to save Halvo Bay from the unstoppable Locust.

Gears of War: Judgment’s debut TV commercial may not have impressed us, but the game’s new cinematic trailer more than makes up for it as you can certainly feel the tension that’s building up in the game from the opening sequence. I mean, we see Baird salute someone and then get punched in the face and dragged off to stand trial. Then, all hell breaks lose as the Locust attack during Baird’s trial.

The cinematic trailer also highlights some of the multiplayer action we can expect in Gears of War: Judgment, which introduces a class-based multiplayer mode in addition to tons of explosions and blood. Two things Gears of War players already know is a staple of the series.

Gears Of War: Judgment ‘Cheevos’ Commercial Focuses On Multiplayer Hijinks

Last night’s re-run of Family Guy played host to the first commercial for Gears of War: Judgment, which will be releasing on the Xbox 360 on March 19. The commercial, called “Cheevos” ditches the traditional Gears of War commercials that featured some heart-wrenching visuals while somber music played, and instead went for a multiplayer-focused ad.

The Cheevos commercial highlights three Gears of War multiplayer fans who are apparently proud of achievements they’ve completed in Gears of War: Judgment. One fan completed 40 declassified missions, another won 92 Overrun matches and the last earning the “Like A Boss” achievement on his 22nd attempt. (more…)
