The Walking Dead Season Three Blu-ray Box is a Real Head Case

Season three of The Walking Dead may still be airing, but it is never too soon to get a sneak peek at the case for the limited-edition Blu-ray set. MTV Geek has outed the collectible packaging, and it’s nice and gruesome and features a replica of the Governor’s head-filled aquarium.
Walking Dead Blu Ray
This is a must have for Walking Dead fans and I’m sure it is creepier than anything you have on display on your shelf already. This Blu-ray case was a collaboration between Robert Kirkman and McFarlane Toys comes with five plastic decapitated heads – all nicely decayed and nasty as you’d expect. It’s even got LED illumination to proudly showcase your floating heads.

If you collect Blu-Ray sets and love this show, you will want to get this one when it is eventually released.

Doctor Who Plush 11th Doctor Pillow: Pillows Are Cool

I know that many female Doctor Who fans would love to snuggle up with Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor. But since he’s probably never going to show up in your home, here is the next best thing. A plush pillow that looks just like him.

matt smith doctor who pillow
This 14″ x 11″ pillow wears no fez, but he does have the bow tie and the rest of his “cool” outfit. It is handmade from top quality fabrics like anti-pill fleece, allergen-free fiber-fill and eco-friendly felt. It’s all stitched, no glue or anything like that. The Doctor would surely approve.

You can find it at telahmarie’s Etsy store for just $30 (USD), where you can also find the 4th Doctor and various other geeky pillows.

Cat Replaces Iron: I Can Has Monopoly

Growing up I played plenty of Monopoly with my friends. Typically, a game started out the same way no matter who I played with, which is to say a fight over who got to be the racecar. No one wanted to be the hat, the shoe, or the incredibly lame iron.

The people at Hasbro recently held a vote to determine which of the existing Monopoly pieces would be booted from the game. While the voting was close – with the shoe and wheelbarrow in the running to be ejected from the game, the useless iron was the piece ultimately voted off the island Atlantic City.

The piece that will replace the iron in the set is a small cat.

The cat will be a good complement to the Scottie dog that is currently used as one of the pieces in the game. It was voted most popular during the online competition, and won out against a helicopter, diamond ring, guitar and a robot (which would have been cool.)

The iron isn’t the first Monopoly piece to be removed from the game. In the 50s a lantern, a purse, and a rocking horse were removed. New versions of Monopoly with the cat will be available later this year.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Spawns 1:500 Scale Enterprise Model

With the upcoming Star Trek: Into Darkness ready to storm into theaters this May, we’re getting ready for whatever sort of merchandising may come along with the flick. One of the first items to pop onto our radar screen is this awesome looking model of the Starship Enterprise.

This 1:500 Revell scale model (#04882) is based on the latest U.S.S. Enterprise (aka the JJPrise) presumably before its smashed into the ocean as shown in the ominous trailer.

The model was shown off in Revell’s booth at the recent Nuremberg Toy Fair, and is due for release in May, at the same time that the movie hits theaters. The expected retail price is €34.99 (~$47 USD), which is way cheaper than the only other model I know of the new Enterprise.

Q*bert Coffee Table Looks @!#?@! Awesome

I always thought Q*bert was a cool game. Between the characters, funky sound effects and weird diagonal control scheme, it was definitely one of the more “out-there” video games of its time. That said, it was one of the most challenging games I ever played in the arcade. The only game that kicked my butt more was Donkey Kong. So with that in mind, I’m not sure if I should love or hate this Q*bert coffee table. Okay, I love it. That was easy.

q bert coffee table

The table was made by woodworker Gill Benzion of Ébéniste. It measures 24″(W) x 20″(D) x 20″(H) and features a marquetry detail inspired by the classic arcade game, set into a walnut veneer lid, set atop an ash base and legs. It’s definitely more elegant looking than the bright colors of the original Q*bert – and it doesn’t make weird noises when you drop things onto its isometric cubes.

You can order this one over on Etsy for $500(USD), or you can request a custom order if you’re looking for a different size. I think if I owned one of these, I’d have to go buy the old Q*bert board game and put the pieces in the empty spaces.

Winterfell Gets Tiny: The Flea Circus is Coming

We still have to wait until March 31 for the new season of Game of Thrones, but that doesn’t mean that fans of the series and books that inspired it aren’t making good use of their downtime while waiting for its return. Take, for example, this tiny 3D printed version of Winterfell.

The miniature home of the Starks was fabricated on a MakerBot Replicator 2 3D printer using a 3D model which was made in Solidworks using screen grabs from the iconic opening sequence of the hit HBO show.

The teensy Winterfell model was created by maker damm301, and it’s quite detailed for its size – just over 3″ square. Best of all, you can download the .STL model file over at Thingiverse, so you can print your own. There’s two versions of the model – one with windows and doors, and the other without.

Perhaps between the 2013 and 2014 seasons, damm301 will have the time to model the rest of Westeros – or at least just King’s Landing.

LEGO Gundam is Too Good to Be Official

If you spent the rest of your day putting your skull back together after seeing Gyuta K.’s LEGO Eva Gundam, brace yourself. Because as it turns out, he has an earlier project so awesome it will beam saber your brain to bits. It’s a LEGO action figure of the White Devil, the RX-78-2 Gundam.

Like many action figures, this LEGO Gundam has several points of articulation, making it quite poseable. And like many LEGO creations, the Gundam has swappable parts, including two different chests. One chest has a cockpit for a minifig Amuro Ray while the other transforms into the FF-X7 Core Fighter. I think I just saw parts of your cerebellum drip out of your nose.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to de-blow your minds. You see, Gyuta K. uploaded the pictures and details of his masterpiece on MOCPages way back in 2010. I know what you’re thinking – LEGO Cuusoo! Gyuta K. did submit a proposal to LEGO’s website, but it was rejected “for not following the Guidelines.” I guess it was just too badass to be mass-produced. Activate your Newtype powers and fly to Gyuta K.’s MOCPages page to see more of the action figure.

TARDIS Blanket is Warmer on the Inside

When you don’t have a TARDIS with which to travel through time and space, the next best thing might be a TARDIS shaped blanket. Instead of walking into the TARDIS and hitting some controls, you can just get in and pull this blanket over your head and let your dreams take you to distant alien worlds for adventure.
tardis blanket
This blanket was made by Kristi from RainyMondayTumblr. It’s over 7.5-feet-long and has some nice extra touches. The windows and light glow in the dark, and the light itself was made with sparkly fabric. This thing took about two months to make.

The person who received this blanket is one lucky so and so. I wish I could sleep in it. With Amy Pond preferably.

Facial Sculptures Made from Random DNA Samples

DNA is essential to carbon-based life as we know it, but this is one of the few times that I’ve seen it used to create art. An artist created portrait sculptures from the analyses of genetic material that was collected in public places.

dna faces sculpture 3d print

Heather Dewey-Hagborg created these portraits from random genetic material left behind in public spaces on everything from cigarette butts to chewing gum and strands of hair. She calls her work Stranger Visions, and it’s supposed to ‘call attention to the impulse toward genetic determinism and the potential for a culture of genetic surveillance’.

dna faces sculpture 3d print sample

She used facial modeling software and a 3D printer to make these samples into sculptures, which were reconstructed from ethnic profiles, eye color, and hair color. Since the samples were randomly collected, we have no idea how accurate the facsimiles faces are compared to their genetic materials’ providers.

What’s even more fascinating is that she perfected her software using open-source DNA profiles available for public download over on github. Yes, you can open source your DNA.

Thermo-Sensitive Business Cards Help You Make a Warm Impression

Business cards aren’t just useful for handing people your contact information. If you’re smart about it, then you can actually use them to help make and cement a good first impression unto others.

Take these business cards by design studio Under Consideration, for example.

Thermo Sensitive Business CardsThey’re far from the typical business card in the sense that each card changes upon contact with your fingertips, lips, or whatever is warm enough to leave a permanent imprint. To make the cards, Under Consideration coated Fedrigoni/Ispira purezza paper cards with thermosensitive ink.

The cards were commissioned by Natalie Daniels, and they weren’t cheap to print. While it might seem that paying $985 for a thousand cards is a bit too much, it looks like it’s paying off since she’s getting tons of exposure because of her extremely unique cards.
