Iron Man Arc Reactor Marriage Proposal Device for When an Iron Man Meets an Iron Woman

You see, when two nerds love each other very much, they sometimes make each other things. Things like this Iron Man arc reactor marriage proposal device that Eddie Zarick created.
stark heart
This is a nice nerdy way to say I love you. Besides, his girlfriend is always calling him Tony Stark anyway since he is involved in a ton of projects. So he figured he would make a Arc Reactor Heart with an engagement ring inside. The thing lights up, and when a button is pushed, the LEDs animate in colors, and the ring rises from the center to impress even the most iron-hearted of iron women. Here, check it out:

Impressive, Eddie, very impressive indeed.

Mega Man and the Robot Masters Turned Into Clay Men

Rockman Corner reader Ricardo Becker made miniature figures of Mega Man and the various bosses from the first 10 Mega Man games. I’m sure part of him just wanted to squash and tear some of these bosses apart as payback for all the hard times they gave him.

Ricardo used cold porcelain – which is neither cold nor porcelain – to make the figures. They may not be as pretty, polished or accurate as other fan made work, but Ricardo made up for it with the sheer number of figures he made.

Head to Ricardo’s Flickr page for the rest of the robot masters, and marvel at the franchise’s unbelievably complex naming scheme.

Most Popular Posts of 2012

Well another year is over, and it was loaded with triumph and tragedy as usual. But as usual, humankind persevered – at least when it came to their gadgets and geekery.

All tolled, we published over 3,700 posts this year, bringing our total since we launched in 2006 up to over 14,200 posts. And that’s just one of our two sites! We know that not all of you visit Technabob every day (we wish you would – so why not subscribe to our RSS Feed?), so in case you missed any of our biggest stories, here are the 30 most popular articles we posted in 2012…

As you can see, there’s a pretty good variety of stuff, ranging from gadgets and video games, to geeky costumes, to the funny and just downright weird on the list. There’s also a typically large volume of Apple tech, and an atypically large amount of Assassin’s Creed stuff. Guess you guys couldn’t get your fill of Connor/Ratonhnhaké:ton this year.

Technabob continues to grow thanks to you guys. We ended the year with over 8.2 million unique visitors, and just over 15 million pages viewed on the site during 2012. And since we launched in 2006, we’ve had over 30 million unique visitors and 54 million pageviews. The mind boggles.

Thanks for another great year! Be sure to stop back by in 2013 for all sorts of cool stuff.

Got a Problem With the World? Then Flip off Everything (and Everyone) With This Umbrella

Got a problem with the world? Have a bone to pick with everything and everyone these days? Hate the rain or the sweltering heat of the sun? Well, don’t waste your energy yelling at those who’ve offended you or cursing about the weather. Instead, just give everyone and whatever’s bothering you the finger without actually having to lift a finger with this umbrella.

Finger Up UmbrellaBecause as you can see, it does all the not-so-heavy-lifting for you. All you’ve got to do is tilt the umbrella in the direction of your intended recipient. You might get some disapproving stares and even some dirty looks while you strut around town with this offensive umbrella in tow, but hey, there’s a whole lot of other things that are more offensive than this umbrella.

The Up Yours Umbrella is available for £23.99 (~$39 USD) at Firebox.

DIY Doctor Who Crack in the Wall Could Destabilize Space and Time

Remember that season of Doctor Who when there was a crack in Amy Pond’s wall? Well, now you can have a crack in your wall that looks just like it. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cause the universe to explode. Or implode. Whatever.
crack in time
This Crack in the Wall is a custom made, battery powered LED array, set into a metal frame. It’s not only a cool modern design, but it makes for a stylish way to illuminate your wall, while keeping things true to Who.

If you want to try and build one for yourself, there are a few pictures here that might help you create one like it. Just make sure that you do it right. I don’t want to be erased from history because of your shoddy craftsmanship.

The Real Bruce Wayne Has Five Parents, All of Them Guys

Redditor morphinapg used a freeware program called Sqirlz Morph to mash together the faces of actors who have played Batman and make this composite image. The features of the man below is an even blend of Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Christian Bale. Or rather an even blend of their pictures.

As some of the Redditors have mentioned, the longer you stare at the image the easier it becomes to see the different actors. Morphinapg also made an animated gif version of the image. I wonder what the result would be if we blended the faces of every human being on Earth.

iPhone Quilt: Too Big for My Pocket, Too Small for My Bed

Apple fanboys and fangirls, looking for something to keep you warm and toasty this winter? Why not go for an iPhone quilt, loaded up with all your your favorite apps?

iphone quilt

This detailed “iQuilt” was made by Heidi Hendrix, and actually won two awards at the Maryland State Fair because it’s just that awesome. Each of its 20 home screen apps is intricately appliquéd, and include favorites like Angry Birds, Skype, Pandora and Facebook. She was also kind enough to leave the iOS6 Apple Maps app off, so you don’t have to be reminded of that while you curl up underneath it. And yes, we see that the home button isn’t round, but we’ll forgive Heidi.

iquilt detail

The quilt measures 61″ x 86″, making it big enough to use on a twin-sized bed with a good amount of overhang on the edges. But if your bed is too big for it, you could always use it to cover up and keep warm while chilling on the couch. The iQuilt can be yours for $375(USD) over on Etsy. Sure, that’s more expensive than a 32GB iPhone 5, but at least you won’t have to worry about a 2-year contract with this one.

Fleshlette Body Part Sculptures Are Grotesquely Artsy, or Maybe Just Grotesque

If you thought those Monster Light Switch Plates and Body Part Kitchen Utensils were creepy, then you’ll be horrified at Jonathan Payne’s ‘Fleshlette’ body part sculptures.

fleshlette monster partsThey do resemble the former in style and material, although you can’t use these to replace any light switch plates or cook dinner at home. Instead, these Fleshlettes are strictly meant to be put on display on your mantle, desk, shelves, or anywhere you want to freak people out a bit because of how horrifically deformed and messed up they look.

Apparently, they also happen to be all the rage because Payne Sculptures has temporarily closed up their storefront on Etsy to fulfill their hoard of current orders. Wowza!

I Would So Exterminate These Dalek Cupcakes (in My Stomach)

If it wasn’t obvious enough already, we’re pretty big fans of Doctor Who around here. I also like to eat – especially sweets. So when I saw these delicious looking Dalek cupcakes, I started drooling as much as my dog does when I’m eating steak.

dalek cupcakes

They were made by DeviantARTist Nomokis, and they sure look tasty. She made them using cake mix, donut holes, cake rolls, mini marshmallows, candy sticks, and some unnatural looking food coloring. She had me at “donut holes.”

Want to make some Dalek cupcakes for yourself? Check out Nomokis’ recipe over on her Tumblr. However, you do need to be careful when you try and eat them. You never know when they’ll start to cry out for your extermination.

Thermochromic Table: Just Add Heat

Interactive furniture is pretty uncommon. After all, your first consideration in making a piece of furniture is to create something that’s sturdy, durable, and comfortable. Aesthetics usually comes second.

And then there’s the Thermochromic Table. It looks like a simple, minimalist table and bench at the outset, but it’s the finish that sets it apart from the rest.

Thermochromic TableBecause of its thermochromic coating, different parts of the table might temporarily ‘change’ in color once it comes contact to someone or something hot. For example, a person’s hand or steaming cups of coffee, as you can see in the gallery below.

These tables are made by Jay Watson Design and costs £1,850 (~$3,000 USD). Or you could just buy some thermochromic paint pigment and cover your own furniture with it.
