Slice up this Dexter Cake Before Dexter Slices up Another Victim

Dexter returned for another season last night, and I haven’t watched it on my DVR yet – so don’t tell me what happened! The show is known for its gory kill-room scenes with its anti-hero serial killer/vigilante Dexter Morgan as he does in his victims. So for those of you with weak stomachs, this might not be for you – but if you like cake – and a little blood, then you’ll love this.

This Dexter cake was posted by redditor gold-coin. And no he didn’t make it, and yes, it’s just a basic white cake with some fake blood on it, some red sprinkles and some action figures stuck on top, but it’s still pretty creative. I especially like the plastic wrap around the victim. Nice touch. Though I think the cake needs some plastic tarps draped around its base to complete the effect. The cake was posted in response to these equally awesome Dexter-inspired cupcakes.

Now I just need some blood slide candies, and my sweet tooth will be fulfilled.

Giant LEGO Vampire Rises from the Ground in New Orleans

Over this past weekend, a vampire was born in New Orleans. No he wasn’t made by somebody biting him on the neck and draining his blood, he was made by a LEGO master builder from about 150,000 LEGO bricks.

This massive 10-foot-tall LEGO Monster Fighters Lord Vampyre rose in front of New Orleans’ iconic Jackson Square in the wee hours of the morning this past Sunday. It was built by LEGO Master builders along with an army of local residents and visitors who helped assemble the giant vampire, as they worked through the night to complete the sculpture.

Here’s a brief time-lapse clip of the build in progress…

Gotta love those light-up red eyes. How come they haven’t done that on True Blood yet? After it’s disassembled, the giant Lord Vampyre will be reassembled at LEGOLAND California for this year’s Halloween festivities.

Nintendo Controllers & Cords Turned into Art

Those cords on vintage video game consoles sure got in the way whenever you weren’t playing. They were long enough that they always got twisted up and tangled everywhere. So if you have a bunch of old Nintendo controllers, you might as well use all of that cord length to make some art.

That’s what artist Erika Iris Simmons (aka iRI5) did in a series titled ‘Ghost In The Machine’. Extending the series of cassette tape art we saw a couple of years back, she now uses the cords from old game controllers to create characters including Mario, and Link as well as Pac-Man. Some were recently for sale in a gallery exhibition for $2,000(USD) each. Not a bad profit margin for controller cable doodles.

Check out the rest in her gallery. She makes some pretty awesome stuff.

Star Wars Ewok Fur Doll is Small but Ferocious

This little Ewok is adorable. You can sing the Yub Nub song all day long with this guy and poke things with a stick together. When you get bored with that you can worship a protocol droid.
ewok doll
This Ewok was made by Etsy seller peludossa and is just too cute. He stands 5″ tall and is made by hand. He’s made out of fur and felt and the cape can be any other color that you want. He even has his own stick. To poke things with.

The seller has a ton of other cool felt dolls based on nerdy properties as well, but these Ewoks are my favorite. He just looks ready to cuddle. He’s just $17(USD). Hit the link above to buy him.

Periodic Table of Minecraft: Breaking Blocks

Minecraft is an adventure game. Minecraft is a horror game. Minecraft is an engineering game. Minecraft is a chemistry game. All of it is made possible by mixing and stacking it’s most basic parts, its elements.

Stormtrooper and Boba Fett Toms: The Empire Walks Back

Now you can wear Stormtroopers on your feet with these custom, hand-painted Toms that are truly unique. As you probably already know, Toms are crazy comfortable, and having a pair that takes after an Imperial trooper is an added bonus.

That added bonus we’re talking about is currently available from Nadia and Jeannine Guadamuz’s shop on Etsy called MoosiesShoes. They’re a talented pair. So talented, in fact, that they can pretty much churn out customized Toms painted with your character of choice – from Boba Fett to that girl from Disney’s Tangled and the gang from The Emperor’s New Groove.

Artist Creates Sculpture Made Using Steve Jobs’ Recycled Trash

We’ve seen a few Steve Jobs action figures try to come to market over the last few years. So far, Apple has stepped in and crushed every single one of those action figures. An artist going by the name XVALA has decided to make his own Steve Jobs “sculptures” that are sure to come under fire by Apple’s legal squad.

jobs trash

The artist started by using M.I.C. Gadget’s Steve Jobs action figure that was discontinued after Apple’s legal team laid into the company. The action figure shows Jobs wearing his trademark attire, and holding an iPhone in his hand. To make the statuette his own, XVALA uses his patented plastic porcelain material to coat the action figure turning it into a “work of art.”

According to the artist, the plastic porcelain material is mixed with the resin made of recycled trash from Steve Jobs’ home. The artist is also creating a sculpture coated in black to bring attention to the Foxconn manufacturing plant suicides. The sculptures are being displayed in the Corey Allen Contemporary Art Gallery and gallery owner says the production of the sculpture will continue with or without Apple approval.

Girl Likes Photoshop a Little Too Much, Gets It Tattooed on Her Arm

Apparently some people really are into their computers. And when I say really, I mean really. Take, for instance, this one girl who decided to have the Adobe Photoshop toolbar tattooed onto her arm.

I wonder how she handles version all those frequent version upgrades (and if her tattoo artist overcharges her for them like Adobe does.) I suppose if she ever tires of it, she could always try and have it removed with the magic eraser tool.

Sci-Fi Car Emblems: Geek Your Ride

Your beat-up ride may not be able to make the Kessel Run, is smaller on the inside and can only go where you’ve already gone before, but you can always use your imagination. Though that could be mentally taxing depending on the state of your car, so you might want to make it easier with these geeky car emblems.

The official-looking emblems are made from silicone and then painted black and chrome to look like a traditional car badge. It already comes with “all-weather, automotive grade” double sided adhesive so your only problem will be deciding where to stick it.

Mini Lego Reel-to-Reel Tape Deck: You’re Going to Need Some Really Tiny Tape

I’m always amazed how LEGO builders can come up with accurate representations of items using just a handful of bricks. It’s sort of like low-res pixel art – if you stand back far enough, it makes sense. One of my recent favorite minimal LEGO builds has to be this tiny tape deck by customBRICKS (who also has an awesome LEGO Battleship game on their home page.)

micro lego tape deck

This miniature reel-to-reel tape deck is too small to actually record anything, and I can’t tell you if it’s a 2-track or a 4-track, but that doesn’t make it any less perfect. I’d love to see a whole miniature recording studio done the same way. In the mean time, I’m enjoying they’re other recent creation – a little LEGO movie projector…
