Death Star Cake Attacked by Various Starships

So. Neal recently had a birthday. I don’t know Neal, but clearly he is a lucky guy. He had a very happy birthday thanks to this amazing cake his wife got for him. It has a delicious and deadly Death Star, but that’s not all.

It depicts an epic space battle between some of the most iconic spaceships from TV and movies. There is a Klingon Bird of Prey, Serenity, a TARDIS, the Millenium Falcon, and even the Enterprise D. Now that is a battle I would like to see.

This cake is yet another awesome creation from the folks at The Regali Kitchen in the Philippines. That’s no moon. That’s dessert!

Oculus Rift Used in Empathy Experiments: Step into Someone’s Views

We’ve seen people use the Oculus Rift to simulate beheadings. BeAnotherLab used the virtual reality headset for something less morbid but no less interesting. The organization’s The Machine to be Another was an “artistic investigation” in which the Rift was used to give participants first person views from actual people.

oculus rift gender swap experiment by beanotherlab 620x406magnify

In one experiment, participants were told to direct the movements of a performer – if they moved their hand, the performer would move their hand as well, if they walked, the performer walked etc. The participant wore an Oculus Rift, through which he or she saw real time footage from a camera mounted on the performer.

The participant could also make the performer pick up objects scattered throughout the experiment area, at which point the performer would say something about the object they picked up. It was like a first-person video game, except you’re controlling an actual person and exploring the real world.

In another experiment, two participants – one male and one female – became each other’s performer. The pair had to synchronize their movements, which is why you can see them being slow and tentative in the video below. The idea was to put the participant in the body of the opposite sex. Note that the video below contains nudity:

Amazing isn’t it? Perhaps studies and experiences like this will be a lot easier to pull off when computer graphics become more life-like. Imagine you’re a browser and head to The Machine to be Another website for more information.

Geeky Sprinkles Make Geeky Cupcakes Infinitely More Awesome

Cupcakes are a dime a dozen these days. Bakers are becoming more creative with the sweet treats they’re baking, drawing inspiration from various video game, TV, and movie franchises, like Doctor Who and Harry Potter, to name a few.

If, however, you can’t be bothered by fondant or lack the necessary skills to paint the aforementioned decors onto your baked goodiess, then you can always cheat by using Geeky Sprinkles, which are exactly what its name implies it is.

Three sprinkles are being offered: the Police Box, Steampunk, and Lightning. They were thought up by Tara Theoharis, who is the creator of Geeky Hostess.

These small bits will, for sure, add so much more fun to whatever you’re topping. You can receive a full set containing all three sprinkle types by making a pledge of at least $26(USD) on Kickstarter.

Dalek the Snowman is Not a Jolly Happy Soul

Winter is in full swing in most of the country. While it was nearly 70-degrees in Texas yesterday, many Northern states are still swathed in deep snow and frigid temps. Not having snow in Texas, it’s always fun to see the winter shenanigans that people in colder climates get up to.

Not to be outdone by the Brits, a guy named Steve Marcote in Massachusetts has built his own 6-foot-tall Dalek snowman. It’s definitely cool and appears to use a plunger and a paint roller frame for arms. I wonder what he used to get all the rectangular indents done.

The Dalek snowman is impressively accurate looking for a snow creature. Now Steve needs to build a snow TARDIS to sit alongside it.

Awesome Dad Makes Geeky Alphabet Blocks for His Son

When you have a newborn son and want to give him some cool toys, I can’t think of anything better than making something yourself. That’s what Jonathan G. did here, making these cool laser-engraved wood blocks for his child.
geek blocks 620x495magnify

He started his work on them before the baby was even born, but didn’t finish until his son’s first birthday. Look at the image here and you will see why. These are some nicely detailed alphabet blocks, clearly made with love. There are 36 blocks in all. They cover the English alphabet and ten digits, showing 134 images of people, animals, monsters, robots, vehicles, organizations, devices, tools, and objects from some of our favorite movies, TV shows, books, comics, video games, and more.

Great job, Jonathan. It looks like your son’s geek education is off to a great start.

Assassin’s Creed Ring: Don’t Wear It

…or do wear it. I don’t know anymore. Ubisoft’s take on assassins morphed from a dude who was at least trying to be discreet to death-dealing mob lords and empire-building pirate captains. So a large ring marked with the Assassins’ symbol – why do they even have a symbol anyway? – made from genuine sterling silver or gold is just a grain of sand in Obvious Beach.

Order the ring from Paul Michael Design for $275 (USD). Then fly a red and white plane and drop a nuclear bomb on your next target, making sure to skywrite “WE WORK IN THE DARK TO SAVE THE LIGHT WE ARE ASSASSINS” as you make your escape. I’m sure no one will notice.

These Glitch Coats Will Hurt Your Eyes

Thank God we don’t see too many glitches in our technology these days. Visual glitches can be annoying, frustrating and often brightly blinding. Which is how I would describe these coats.

These coats are born from an unholy alliance between Japanese designers Nukeme and Ucnv. They’re available with either a black or white coat and an all-over glitch pattern that might make you lose your lunch if you stare at it too long.

On the upside, each is handmade and ships to you from beautiful Toyko. It will cost you about $295(USD) to look like a walking glitch. Too bad these coats don’t come with recordings of audio distortion to go along with them.

Stitched Map of Westeros: String’s Landing

Some mothers are just plain awesome. Take the Mother of Dragons for instance. Also, the mother of redditor lkd10019312 is one such mother. Why? Because she made this amazing stitchwork map of the continent of Westeros from Game of Thrones.

This map is very nicely detailed and very cleverly uses buttons to imitate the animated gear map sequence in the introduction of the show. This awesome map took her five months of work and it was well worth it.

This Medieval Joker Armor Is Insane

Prince Armory has been making stuff for cosplayers, armor and weapon collectors since 2007. They have all kinds of detailed custom armor creations. Their newest design looks like it comes straight from the pages of a DC Elseworlds comic book.

This suit of medieval style leather Joker armor is colorful and creepy and is perfect for the Clown Prince of Crime. The suit is made of seven hardened leather pieces: A Jester’s Helmet with Joker Mask, Breastplate, Drama Face Pauldrons, Breastplate, Jester’s War Skirt, Cuisses/Knees/Greaves, and Articulated Jester Shoe Sabatons.

The detail is crazy. One can only imagine how cool Medieval Batman would look fighting this guy. I would not want to go up against this Joker. He is even creepier and more insane than usual.
