Pacific Rim Crimson Typhoon Cosplay Isn’t Worn by Triplets

Peter Kokis aka Brooklyn Robot Works made a shiny costume based on Crimson Typhoon, China’s ace against the kaiju in Pacific Rim. The costume is far from perfect – the proportions and even the colors are off, and it’s missing its trademark blades – but it’s still an impressive piece, especially when you find out what it’s made of.

Peter calls his costume the Brooklyn Typhoon. It took him a total of 550 hours to build. It probably takes him as long to walk a mile in it because it weighs 152lb. Cats Posing Like Pin-up Girls: Oh, Internet.

Dogs may be man’s best friend, but when it comes to modeling, cats reign supreme. Earlier, we saw a bunch of macho felines posing like male models in this hilarious photo series. This time, we’ve got another series that shows off the feline versatility: sexy cats posing like pin up girls.

These images are iconic, and what’s particularly fun and entertaining is the fact that each of the poses is replicated quite well and accurately by their feline counterparts.

Star Wars Christmas Cards: Happy Hothidays

Christmas is here and if you think you might need to send out Christmas cards this year, and you happen to be a geek get your credit card ready. Artist P.J. McQuade is selling some very cool Christmas cards over on Etsy. These cards feature some of the most popular and famous scenes from the Star Wars films, updated for the holidays.

The cards show representations of famous Star Wars characters in holiday guise. I particularly like Chewie with the reindeer horns on his head. I also like the slave Leia card and the Yoda card. Really, I like them all.

Building Brick Light Switch Plate Fits LEGO, Mega Bloks and More: Turn on, Turncoat

Who would’ve thought that a light switch plate would reunite LEGO with its sworn enemies? Thinkgeek claims that the surface of its Building Brick Light Switch Plate is compatible not just with LEGO but with Mega Bloks, K’NEX, KRE-O and PixelBlocks pieces. That means you can go wild and pimp your light switch in infinity plus four ways.

One crafty commenter even suggested that you attach your keys to a LEGO brick keychain and then you’ll never lose your keys again.

Thinkgeek sells the Building Brick Light Switch Plate for $10 (USD) per pair. If it’s really that versatile, Thinkgeek should forget about light switches and just sell vanilla base plates based on this mold.

Handmade Lace TARDIS: Time and Relative Doilies in Space

Do only older people still use doilies? Or have younger people starting using them too? I have no idea. I just know that this TARDIS doily is something that both you and your grandparents can agree on.

They can put a bowl of hard candy on it. You can set the remote down on it. It’s all good, bringing several generations of Whovians together and making your home look geeky and old-timey… wimey.

tardis doily1 620x558magnify

This handmade tatted lace doily comes from Etsy artist DorothyTRose and will cost you a crazy $700(USD). It is about 17 inches in diameter with green, white, blue, and black thread. Each TARDIS has eight panels (five blue and three white, indicating the windows and the “Pull to Open” sign), and a black bar with white pearlescent beads for the “Police Box” section. A large iridescent bead on top represents the TARDIS’ light.

Alien Facehugger Light Switch Plate: Better Leave the Lights on

There are plenty of things to be afraid of when you are in the dark. Anything could be walking your darkened halls and waiting to pounce on you. Aliens, a Predator, maybe even Weird Al Yankovic. Darkness is our enemy. I say embrace your fear and gather enough courage to install this awesome Alien Facehugger light switch plate.

Sure, it is scary, but at least you know it is there and not moving anywhere. It might even scare some of those other demons away. Besides, when a facehugger is busy hugging your wall switch, it’s all good. It is too busy to hug you to death.

It’s made from resin and cold cast bronze by Afterlight Sculpture and sells for about $24(USD). I don’t recommend ever flipping it to the “off” position though.

Sherlock Premier Tipped by Flowers in a Hearse

Fans of the BBC series Sherlock have been clamoring to see what happens in the new season of the show, since the last season ended with the tragic demise of Sherlock Holmes. Or did it? Now, the premiere date for the new season of the show was tipped in an interesting way.

sherlock hearse 1 620x412magnify

A hearse was hired to drive around with a flower arrangement in its glass windows. Those flowers spelled out “SHERLOCK” and the date “01-01-14.” Of course, the new season will air on January 1 (at least in the UK). It’s also telling that the season premiere is titled “An Empty Hearse.”

The hearse also had a hashtag on one window that read #sherlocklives. Actor mark Gatiss also tweeted to fans that they should look out for the vehicle. Gattis wrote, “Should you be around Baker St, Gower St or even Bart’s tomorrow morning, look out for a certain vehicle containing special news…#Sherlock.”

Fans looking forward to the next Sherlock episode here in the US will have to wait until January 19th, 2013 for its premiere on PBS.

Saberforge Double-Bladed Staff: As Popularized by Arthday Aulmay

We’ve already seen Etsy seller Philip Isherwood’s Saberforge Battle Sabers, a series of very original prop weapons. While I’m still researching how he came up with his utterly unique designs, Philip already upped the ante. He’s now making Saberforge Staffs, which have not one but two blades. This changes everything. This guy is a genius. A genius I say!

Philip is well aware that his props are used by people who like to play both heroes and villains, so he again fired up his innovation engine and came up with two distinct designs. The Decimator Staff, shown above, looks unmistakably evil, while the Grand Master Staff, shown below, is for those who (pretend to) fight for good. Philip’s imagination truly knows no bounds.

Seriously though, these seem like durable and beautiful props. Not only do they have aircraft-grade aluminum handles, they also have force- and motion-sensitive sound effects, meaning they play appropriate audio effects when swung and when their blades clash. Speaking of clashing, the staff’s coupler can be removed if you want to dual wield or share a saber with a friend. Each staff comes with two sets of blades, a pair of 36″ blades and a pair of 32″ blades. A 10w dual-color LED on each hilt provides the lighting.

Reading Net: Catch of the Day, Bookworms

If you’re filthy rich and happen to have a huge expansive library in your very own home, then you might have some use for this reading net. Otherwise, all you can do is stare at it longingly like the rest of us. Because while the net itself probably isn’t expensive, what’s the use if you don’t have a library to hang it in and complete the concept?

Reading Net 620x721magnify

As you can see, the reading net is exactly what its name implies it is: it’s a net where kids can lie on while they do some reading. What makes it extra special is the fact that it’s meant to be hung over the first floor of the library.

[The Reading Net is] a meshed fabric suspended from the architecture of a family library, that acts as a second-level reading range. the hanging web is tautly attached to the railings of a lofted path, and — as both children and adults climb onto the woven expanse — they can both lounge and learn on the buoyant surface.
