Flying R/C Enterprise NCC 1701-D: Captain, The Rechargeables Can’t Hold Her Much Longer!

Watching this video of this guy making his own model of the Starship Enterprise D – then making it fly – is truly inspirational. It is a fully functional R/C model. It’s even illuminated by super bright LEDs and fiber optics. Honestly, I was in geek heaven watching this.

enterprise d flies
YouTuber TheMiro59 built this functional model of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D last year. It doesn’t fly perfectly, but it does fly. The video takes you through the build process and all of the test flights. The first flight is kind of funny as it nose dives into a net like it had been caught in a Tholian web – though after a while, he does get the hang of flying the decidedly less than aerodynamic starship.

Still, all I can say is this guy did an awesome job. The man believed it and lived the dream. Now somebody needs to start mass-producing these so we can all own one.

Chinese Worker Builds Giant Motorcycle So Big It Needs Training Wheels

While I really enjoy the occasional ATV or Jet-Ski ride, and regularly ride my bicycle, I have to say I’ve never been all that comfortable riding a motorcycle. Maybe it’s because the first time I rode on one, I was riding on the back of the seat with a crazy person behind the handlebars, holding on for dear life. Perhaps what I need is a motorcycle with training wheels.

china huge motorcycle

That wasn’t quite what I had in mind. Have you ever seen a motorcycle that big? Yeah, me neither. This crazy bike was built in China by a sewage treatment plant worker in his spare time. He made it entirely from junkyard scrap, and drives along using tractor tires instead of regular motorcycle tires. It measures over 14-feet-long by nearly 8-feet-tall, and hits a top speed of about 25mph. It actually is big enough to carry 5 to 6 total passengers if you can believe it.

Here, check it out in action in this video clip:

Wacky, eh? I guess it needs those training wheels in the back so it doesn’t tip over. It looks ridiculously top-heavy, especially with a driver and three passengers on board. I can’t even imagine riding around with six people on this thing.

Slothywood: Reworked Movie Posters Starring Sloths

Sloths have already made their way to Disney Studios, so it was only a matter of time before they crossed over to Hollywood.

The Poke decided it was time to release remakes of hit movies and cult classics with a slothy twist by asking its readers to replace most of the leads with – you guessed it -sloths!

sloth poster 1

The result is an endearing bunch of movie posters where sloths take center stage. Replacing the likes of Will Smith, David Hasselhoff, Al Pacino, and Clint Eastwood, sloths prove once and for all that they’re just as virile and talented as their human counterparts.

I jest. But the posters are good for a few laughs, and you can check some of the funniest ones in the gallery below.

Screwdriver Car Key Hack Makes Everyone Think You’re Driving a Stolen Car

Can you still steal a car and drive away with it by jamming a screwdriver into the ignition? I’m not sure about that, but what I’m sure of is that you can drive a car with a screwdriver jammed into the ignition – provided a duplicate of your car key has been soldered right at the very end of the aforementioned tool.

Screwdriver Key Hack

The man behind  this creative hack is Nathan of HaHa Bird, who admits that he came up with it with “no practical purpose at all.” That doesn’t make it any less fun, though.

You’ll clearly need basic metal working skills to pull this off, so don’t attempt to make your own screwdriver key if you’re not sure what you’re doing. You also run the risk of damaging your ignition if you don’t do it properly, so you have been warned.

That said, Nathan has provided how-to instructions on his site if you’re interested in making one for yourself.

Lion Hat Turns Your Pet Cat into a Pet Lion

Some cats are small but terrible – in a good way of course. Like they say, the best surprises come in the smallest of packages, and cats fit this description to a tee: they might not be the biggest pet in your home or the biggest creature in the world, but they’ve got personalities as big as can be and they’re often not afraid to show it.

This is why the Lion Hat is so appropriate and fitting for your feline companion.

Lion Hat

It’s basically a miniature mane that’ll transform your cat into a miniature lion. It’s probably already the king (or queen) of your home as speak, so why not make it official and crown it with a fiery mane of glory?

Lion Hat1

Of course, it’s not limited to feline use, as the Lion Hat fits most average-sized cats and dogs. So if you want, you can also dress your canine pals up to be the king of their own domains. The hat is made from synthetic fur, while the ears are crafted from plush felt.

It’s as adorable as pet hats and costumes can get, and it’s available online for $38(USD) at Nesta’s Nest on Etsy.

Dead Space Plasma Cutter Replica Uses Real Lasers to Slice Through Alien Limbs

We’ve seen some Dead Space Plasma Cutters before – even some with real lasers, but hey, lasers are always cool, so check this one out and be very impressed. The craftmanship and attention to detail here is simply stunning.

It was made by Patrick Priebe of Laser Gadgets. This weapon can actually do some serious damage, which is great if you find yourself on a derelict spaceship full of killer aliens.

Just like the video game gun it can go from vertical to horizontal and back again and as shown in the video, it can burn things of course.  It’s powered by three bright 30mW green lasers for aiming, and a 1.5W blue laser for burning stuff. While Patrick doesn’t offer plans or a build guide for his Plasma Cutter, he will build and sell you one if you have enough money.

Sterling Silver LEGO Minifig Snaps Together with Regular Bricks: Metalfig

Are you a LEGO fanatic? Then, maybe you’d like to add another minifig to your collection. But this isn’t any ordinary minifig, no. It’s made from solid metal.

sterling lego minifig 1

Designer Jonathan Brady has created this gorgeous LEGO-inspired minifig from .925 sterling silver. It’s not only a perfectly accurate model of a minifig, but all of the joints are posable, and it even is compatible with regular LEGO bricks. It’s actually made from eight pieces of cast solid medal, held together with tiny retaining rings. But this minifig isn’t just for you to stare at. If you’ve got the dough, you can actually order one for yourself through Jonathan’s recent Kickstarter campaign.

Though it’ll cost you. A full-size posable minifig in sterling silver will set you back $475(USD). But if that’s too rich for your blood, you can grab one that doesn’t move for $270, a 2/3rds scale version as a pendant for $190, or a pair of 1/3rd scale earrings for just $70. Though it you want one that actually moves, you’ll have to go with the $475 version.

If you’re really rolling in the dough, aim high and go for the solid 14 karat gold version for $4250, or the one-of-a-kind platinum version for a whopping $9,500.

Be sure not to step on any LEGOs as you run over to Kickstarter to get in on the project before it closes on May 28.

R2-D2 Leather Wallet Holds the Debit Cards You Were Looking for

As editor of both Technabob and The Awesomer, the number of submissions I get for “unique,” minimal, RFID-blocking wallets over on Kickstarter has gotten ridiculous. But just when I thought I’d never post another wallet again, Popov Leather has made me once again believe in humanity.

r2 d2 wallet 1

Sure, it won’t hold your iPhone, or prevent your RFID chips from being hacked, but this wallet has a hand-tooled image of R2-D2 on the front. How could you not want one? And just like an actual droid, it’s made from high quality 4oz. cowhide, lined with 30z. calfskin and card pockets made from 20z. pigskin. Ok, I made that part up about droids being made from leather.

Each wallet is handmade, so it’ll take a couple of weeks to get yours. So bleep-bloop on over to Etsy and order yours now, before the Jawas come along and take them all so they can sell them out of the back of a sandcrawler.

Pay for a Blast from the Past: Rent a ‘Back to the Future’ DeLorean

Ever wished you could go back to the past or travel through time into the future? I have, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. A lot of people would give the pageant-perfect answer and say no, explaining that they wouldn’t be who they were today had they changed their past experiences.

I agree with that sentiment most of the time, but there’s also the case of committing mistakes consciously, just because you were in the heat of the moment or just weren’t thinking at all, period. Of course, time travel is impossible in this world, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t pay to experience a literal blast from the past.

Rent a DeLorean

There’s currently a rental service that’s lending off a street-legal DeLorean time machine that looks like it came off the set of Back to the Future. It’s not one of the actuals car they used in the movie, though it’s a pretty good replica of the iconic car-slash-time machine.

The rental service is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the warm season and in Las Vegas, Nevada during the cold season. However, they can travel to “practically any location in the continental United States and Canada,” should you have a need for a time-traveling DeLorean.

Hourly rates are discussed on a case-to-case basis, so you might want to get in touch with Time Machine Rental if you’re interested.

Oh, and where you’re going, you’re probably going to need roads.

Pokémon Card Party Invitations: Gotta Invite ‘Em All

Gotta invite ‘em all? Then what better way to do that than by sending out Pokémon card-themed invites?

That’s what Redditor jerrikag did for her son Logan aka Logatchu’s, who’s celebrating his sixth birthday with an awesome (and presumably) Pokémon-themed party.

Pokemon Party Invitations

Why stick with boring generic invites when you can create some super effective ones that’ll get people talking and extremely excited about your party?

Logan’s mom did an awesome job with the invites. No doubt she’ll do better at the party, where pizza and cake will be served. As icing on the cake, there’s even going to be a pinata! I wonder if it’ll be a Pokeball.

Happy birthday, Logan, and we hope you enjoy your party!
