They are truly awesome, and I am simply in love with his work. It looks like prices for the props start around $500(USD).

If lightsabers aren’t your thing, how about an amazing 1/58 scale Millennium Falcon? I look at this stuff and I feel like a kid all over again. I wish I could afford all of his work. Head on over to Roland’s website to see more of his incredible creations.

Awesome Graphic Designer Dad Illustrated His Kids’ Lunch Bags Since 2008

Some parents make sure their kids eat right by packing their lunches for them. Others go the extra mile to make sure they actually eat it (or have fun with it) by packing the food in bags that just demand for their kid’s attention, like dad-slash-graphic designer David LaFerriere.

He’s been sending his kids off with lunches packed in illustrated bags nearly every single day since 2008. Do the math and that’s easily over a thousand hand-drawn bags since then.

Being the artist and perhaps sentimental father that he is, David has taken a photo of almost every single one and has posted it all on Flickr for the world to see.

Read and Wear: Smart Pajamas Can Read Your Kids a Bedtime Story

Too tired to read your child a bedtime story? Then let his or her pajamas do the work. This’ll only work if they’ve got the Smart PJs on, because all other jammies are presumably dumb and don’t have the embedded visual codes that make these pajamas so special.

The secret is all in the design. Or rather, on the secret dot codes integrated into the design on the pajamas. All parents have to do is download an app that’s compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and they’re good to go.

Smart PJs founder Juan Murdoch explained: “We purposely created Smart PJ’s with the scannable dot patterns all over them so that parents can help the child scan the stories on their backs where they can’t reach. We also put words to all the stories and animal information on the screen so that parents can turn off the volume and help the child learn to read the stories and words themselves.”

These interactive pajamas are available in four sizes for both little boys and girls and are currently priced at just $25(USD).

20-Foot Long Balloon Dinosaur: Pop Goes the World

Do you have hundreds of balloons lying around and a lung capacity that needs to be put to the ultimate test? If so, you can do what Larry Moss’s Airigami team did and assemble a huge-ass balloon dinosaur.
balloon dinosaur
This balloonimal is an acrocanthosaurus, which is a carnivorous dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous period. You knew that right? Incredibly, this thing is 20 feet long, so it is almost a 1:1 scale model.

It took about 4 days to complete this beast and it could go extinct in a second with a tiny pin and several jabs. This massive balloon beast was installed in the Virgina Museum of Natural History alongside of a resin model of the real thing.

Iron Man Mk. 42 Life-Size Figure: Iron Statue

Some Iron Man fans are not too keen on his gold-heavy Mark XLII armor, but if you’re absolutely enamored with it Sideshow Collectibles has the ultimate item for you – a life-size replica of the suit.

The armor stands 85″ tall (about 7′) and weighs 105 lbs. It’s finished with automotive paint to give it a glossy look and it has LEDs on its eyes, arc reactor, palms and on the display base.

You’ll need Tony Stark’s wallet to get it, but I think we all expected that. You can pre-order it from Sideshow Collectibles for $8,500 (USD). I wonder if it could be modded into a wearable suit.

Escher Reptile Flooring: Lizards Under Foot!

If M.C. Escher were still alive today, I’m betting he’d redo all of the floors in his house with these wood tiles…

escher floor tiles

Madrid, Spain flooring contractor Arbore created these awesome hardwood pieces in the form of Escher’s famous interlocking geometric reptiles.

Though if Escher had these in his house, actual lizards would emerge from the edges of the floor when you step on it. He’d also have to cover the walls and the ceilings with these, since I bet there was no difference between those and the floor in his house.

Guy Builds His Own Batcave

Most Batman fans are happy to collect the comic books, watch the movies and display their action figures on a shelf. Not Chris Weir. Chris is too big a fan to be content with those things. He collects all that stuff, but he needed his own Batcave to put it all in.

batcave 1

So he did what any enterprising superfan would do – and made his own Batcave. It took him two years to build and cost over $150,000(USD) in renovation costs. He even chose the house specifically because it had enough basement space for his project.

batcave 2

Just like in the classic TVshow, he flips the head on the Shakespeare bust, pushes a button and a bookcase opens up.

The Batcave doubles as a home theater of course with a 120-inch Cinemascope screen and a Batman replica suit, among other goodies. Hey Chris, invite me over!

Vietnam Has a Fire-Breathing Dragon

The next time you travel to Vietnam, make sure you check out their 85 milion dollar fire-breathing dragon. An 85 million dollar glowing neon fire-breathing dragon, that is. It can breathe both fire and water.

dragon bridge

Did I mention that it is also part of a bridge? The bridge spans the Han River in the port city of Da Nang. This color changing dragon lights up using 15,000 Philips LEDs.

Why can’t we have awesome bridges like this in the U.S.? Probably because all the LARPers would gather there and form a dragon-worshipping cult.

Also sword-wielding geeks would climb up on the head to get their picture taken. Check out the video to see the dragon in action.

Steampunk AT-ST Desktop Lamp: For Fighting off Desk Ewoks

Desk Ewoks can be a serious problem. They are attracted by crumbs and spills from hundreds of late night gaming sessions with never a clean-up. Yeah, I’m surprised you haven’t seen them yet either. It’s just a matter of time. So how do you combat Desk Ewoks? You get yourself a AT-ST Desktop lamp, that’s what.

steampunk at at

This Steampunk AT-ST Lamp was made by Gozdom using wood, bronze and copper overlays and looks pretty awesome. It’s made to resemble the AT-ST scout walker, but with a head that resembles the boiler of a steam locomotive.

steampunk at at1

Okay, so the Empire’s machines didn’t do so well against Ewoks and their primitive weapons on Endor, but at least you will have a fighting chance when the Desk Ewoks show up.
