Microsoft Smart Bra Lets You Know When You’re Stress Eating

Emotional eating is more common than you think. Some people sing their worries away, while others find that they’re calmer when they’re eating a cookie. Then a salad. Then a bowl of noodles. And so on and so forth.

Women aren’t the only ones who eat when they’re stressed, but men don’t really wear anything like a bra, do they? The reason why researchers from Microsoft, the University of Rochester and the University of Southampton, UK went with the bra is that it’s an article of clothing that rests over the heart, which allows it sensors to conveniently monitor its wearer’s heartbeat, and not because they had any thoughts on women being more emotional eaters than men.

The on-board sensors record the heartbeat and emotional state of its wearer. It hooks up with a smartphone app that uses the data gathered to determine whether its wearer is eating because of fluctuating emotions or not. If it’s the former, then it’ll send the user a message to let her know just that.

After it was put to the test, the bra was found to be 75% accurate when it came to predicting its wearer’s emotional state. Microsoft doesn’t have definitive plans to release this technology in a consumer product, but continues to research devices which react based on users’ moods, or so called “affective computing.”

Technomancer Digital Wizard Hoodie Has 32 Multicolored Tricks up Its Sleeve

ThinkGeek has turned another one of its April Fools jokes into an actual product. The Technomancer Digital Wizard Hoodie uses 32 multicolored LEDs and a speaker box to emit light and sound effects. The cool thing – or the dealbreaker, depending on how geeky you are – about the hoodie is that you have to activate the effects using hand gestures, as if you were casting a spell.

The hoodie has nine spells or sets of effects. There’s a fireball spell, a health restoring spell and even a water bending spell. The LEDs are attached to a hood assembly as well as to its inner sleeves. While most wizards use mana, this hoodie runs on six AA batteries, which you’ll insert into its built-in battery compartment. Skip to 1:25 in the video below to determine whether you have the moxie to don this robe.

You can get the hoodie for $120 (USD). Cast the browsing spell and head to ThinkGeek to order.

Jingle Bells Ring Really Does Ring

Tis the season to be jolly. It’s a few weeks before Christmas, and despite the trials and challenges that continue to come, one can’t help but feel light and cheerful during this time of year. At least, that’s how I feel, anyway. If you’re looking to add a bit more festive cheer to your outfit, then you can do so by putting this Jingle Bells ring around one of your digits.

Jingle Bells Ringmagnify

It’s a relatively simple ring with a simple design that is an eyeful (and earful) when taken in. The ring lives up to its name, as it’s basically a bunch of tiny bells positioned on the ring to resemble an ornament. Give your ring and gentle shake, and the bells will jingle all the way.

It’s available for sale from the Neatoshop for just $3.95(USD). But if you feel like getting creative, then I’m sure you can turn this into a DIY project for the holiday season.

Minecraft Creeper Backpack Unfortunately Won’t Blow up Your Homework

It seems like every time I turn around my daughter has my iPhone and she is playing Minecraft. I hear her constantly yelling at the Creepers for creeping up and doing their thang – namely blowing up. If you or someone you know is a fan of Minecraft and goes to school or work where a backpack is a benefit, this is the gift for you.

creeper 1 620x798magnify

ThinkGeek has a Minecraft Creeper Backpack that is available right now for $59.99(USD). That’s not exactly cheap, but if you have ever shopped for name brand backpacks, it’s not exactly expensive either. This is also the coolest backpack in all the blocky world.

The backpack is made of woven nylon and has three compartments with double zippers. The main compartment measures 11″ x 14″ x 2″ with 360-degree padding for laptop protection. The middle section is 11″ x 13.5″ x 2.5″. The front pocket has a 5-pocket organizer and measures 10″ x 13″ x 1″.

You can be sure that no one else in grade school will have a backpack like this – unless of course they also read Technabob or shop at ThinkGeek.

Touch or Tickle Your Beloved Even When You’re Far Away with Bond

Now you can caress and even tickle your significant other, even when you’re far away, with Bond. It’s basically a wearable system that lets you reach out and “touch” people from far away.

bond remote touch gadget 620x364magnify

The Bond device works with an iOS or Android device via Bluetooth to deliver the virtual caresses. It’s pretty versatile too, as the sensor can be worn as either a bracelet or a pendant.

Once activated, users can “touch” and tickle others remotely anywhere in the world where there’s cell service coverage.

If you touch it for 1 second, your friend will get a one second tickle. Tickles can be up to five seconds long and any colour of the rainbow – the colour just depends on how long you touch it for. Swipe BOND and you will send a rainbow tickle.

Bond is currently up for funding on Indiegogo through December 3rd, where a minimum pledge of $170(USD) will get you a pair – with one for you to keep and one for you to give away to your significant other.

Janus Dynamic Fabric Lights up or Warms You up, as Needed

Janus gives interactive fabric a whole new meaning. Not only is it strong and versatile, but it also comes with integrated heating or lighting capabilities. It sounds like something from the future, and it probably is, but here’s to hoping someone can actually turn it into a reality.

Janus Fabric 620x287magnify

Janus is a concept desibn for a textile that could be integrated into a variety of base materials, such as fabrics, leather, or film. After the material is decided, a lighting or heating system can be applied before using the textile to create the intended product.

So far, three products have been designed with the special features of Janus in mind: an umbrella with an integrated lighting system, bulb-less light that uses the material’s lighting properties to provide illumination, and a wheelchair with integrated heating in its seat.

The lighting or heating system is basically sandwiched in between a layer of polyurethane and polyester. For example, for the umbrella, the system is described as follows:

In the rain, the city seems to be darker and gloomier than usual. Janus Fabric senses the sounds on the street and expresses various light patterns in response.

Futuristic? Yes. Impossible? We’re hoping it isn’t.

Janus Fabric is a Red Dot Design Award 2013 winner and was designed by Kim Hyemin, Kim Minki, and Lee Jisu.

Dinosaur Bone Wedding Bands Mark the Extinction of Your Single Life

A diamond is forever, so how special is that? Anyone can get a diamond. You can’t destroy the things. But a dinosaur bone? That’s awesome. And it says that your love is an ancient and special thing that can only be destroyed by a worldwide calamity that wipes out an entire species. Now that’s love.

dinosaur ringmagnify

These handmade rings come from Jewelry by Johan, who gets the materials for the rings from the Morrison Formation in Utah. Sadly, they’re not actual bone fragments, but the colorful quartz minerals formed in the fossils where dinosaur bones once lay. Still, these fossils date all the way back from the Jurassic Era over 65 million years ago. They also make some rings with meteorite fragments as well.

Prices for the dinosaur bone rings range from $450(USD) to $1800(USD).

Nothing says love like wearing the bones of dead giants, or so I once heard a Klingon say.

Transformers Starscream Hoodie is Plotting Against Your Other Hoodies

A couple of weeks ago we checked out 80s Tees’ kick ass Voltron hoodie. It turns out the apparel shop also has something for Transformers fans. This officially licensed Starscream hoodie is based on the treacherous Decepticon’s design in the original Transformers cartoon.

As you can see the hoodie has wings that make it look like a wingsuit. But that doesn’t bother me; what bothers me is the canopy detail on the front of the hoodie. It will make skinny people look even thinner; just look at the dude in the pictures. I guess only robust people are worthy of wearing Starscream.

Practice your screechy voice and order the Starscream hoodie from 80s Tees for just $60 (USD).
