Neuro Knitting’s Scarves Will Cover Your Neck in Brain Waves

Customized scarves are nothing new, but artists Varvara Guljajeva and Mar Canet still came up with something truly novel and different in this category.

They worked with Sebastian Mealla from the Music Technology Group in Barcelona to create something called Neuro Knitting.

EEG Scarf

The process is described as follows:

Neuro Knitting represents a novel way of personal, generative design and fabrication. An approach that brings together affective computing and digital crafts. And thus, it offers new applications and creative thinking to both areas. It’s basically a process where you, the person who wants a new one-of-a-kind scarf, wears an EEG cap and listens to 10 minutes of classical music. Your brain activity is recorded and transferred into a knitting pattern using a program called Knitic.

A custom scarf is then knitted from this pattern, and voila! You’ve got a truly unique brainwave-patterned scarf that’s yours, in every sense of the word.

But note that if you have something against Bach’s Goldberg Variations, you’ll probably have one chaotic-looking scarf.

Borderlands Belt Buckles: Straptrap

You don’t need pants to play Borderlands – I haven’t played Borderlands 2 yet so I’m not sure about its pants requirements – but if you’re really into it you’ll want to wear eight pairs of pants just so you can rock these fan made belt buckles based on the game. They were made by Imgur member Jellyroger. I bet you’re the one who’s jelly now.

As you can see, Jellyroger based the designs on the arms manufacturers in the Borderlands games. He gave each company a unique and fitting design. The Jakobs one is my favorite. Check out the other buckles in the gallery:

Jellyroger and his friend Cubewithincube – they sound like they’d make for an awesome cartoon – are currently taking a heat check on the interest for the belts. If you want to buy the buckles, let them know either on Jellyroger’s Imgur page or on Cubewithincube’s Borderlands 2 forum thread.

Iron Man Arc Reactor Ring Will Keep Your Love Alive

…or you can use it to keep metal shards at bay, as your last resort to keep your finger alive. You will claim that endearing vulnerability for four movies. Then for some unfathomable reason you will retcon the arc reactor’s reason for existence, and you will do so in the most hurried way possible. Just… what?! Clearly, this ring is far more beautiful than the highly polished piece of crap that is Iron Man 3.

The arc reactor ring was made by Gino Arizmendi aka Pathetic Peripatetic. Gino was commissioned to make the ring by a fellow geek who had seen his unofficial TARDIS ring. To make the ring pop, Gino set blue topaz and diamond baguettes (Ho ho ho! Un baguette!) in white gold.

If you want to own a unique and geeky ring, Gino’s your man. You can also browse his other jewelry on his business website.

Meta Wearable AR Computer Dev Kits: How Many Glasses Are We Supposed to Wear in the Future?

Earlier this year we heard about the Meta, an augmented reality computer in the shape of a pair of glasses. The company behind the computer took a page from the Oculus Rift team and also launched a Kickstarter for the Meta developer’s kit.

meta 1 augmented reality glasses developer kit

The fundraiser may not be aimed at end users, but it does reveal a bit more about the Meta. In the video below you’ll see that the consumer version of the glasses should be much more compact and much less dorky than the current prototype. The Meta projects its display up to 16 ft. away from the user at 960×540 resolution. Developers will initially use Unity 3D on Windows to write software for the Meta. They’ll be able to make use of the Meta’s gesture, finger and surface tracking as well as its depth and color data.

You’ll need to pledge at least $695(USD) on Kickstarter to get a Meta 1 dev kit as a reward. I’m really intrigued by the possibilities of this device, partly because I’m into card and board games right now. It would be nice to have more interactive board game. And also to not have to clean up the tokens and other pieces after each game.

Diesel outs “World’s Largest” Wristwatch – The Grand Daddy

As a guy, I prefer a watch with a large face to one with a small one. Though I’m not sure I’d be comfortable wearing this beast. It’s a new watch from Diesel, called the Grand Daddy (model DZ7262), and it measures a ginormous 66mm x 73mm (~2.6″ x 2.87″).

The Grand Daddy offers four completely independent chronograph movements, so you can keep time in four different timezones at once – or better yet, run four different stopwatches simultaneously.

All of that mechanical glory is set into a black ion-plated steel case, with an anti-reflective, irridescent mineral crystal, and set onto a black leather strap. It’s also waterproof to 3ATM (~100 Feet).

Only 1,000 of this massive watch will be produced, and you can get your hands on one of those over at Watchismo – where it sells for $998.99(USD).

Ewok Hat: Yub Nub for Your Noggin

These days, most of us think of the Ewoks as cute and endearing little fellows, but I remember when Return of the Jedi came out, there was an uproar over the addition of these furry creatures to the Star Wars universe. In fact, I’ve long held the theory that George Lucas introduced Jar-Jar Binks so we would forget all about the Ewoks.

But if you’re on Team Ewok, here’s something you might want to buy to show your support.

ewok hat

This Ewok hat was created by textile artist Mary Gauvin, and is perfect for camouflaging your Jedi younglings when they first land on Endor to help destroy any newly-erected Imperial shield generators. As a bonus, it’ll also keep their heads warm on Hoth. It’s also the perfect gift  if you’re best friends with Warwick Davis.

Hop on your speeder bike and fly through the forest to Etsy if you want one.

This Spider-Man Costume is Strange but Spectacular

A couple of weeks ago we saw a sweet Amazing Spider-Man costume that looks like he stepped out of a videogame or movie set. I’m not sure if Ryan Turney’s Spidey costume is superior to that one, but it is at least equally astonishing. Especially since I don’t know if it’s based on one of Marvel’s comics or if it’s Turney’s original design. From an untold tale perhaps?

Electrified Wolverine Claws will Cut & Cook You

A few years ago, hacksmith/Weapon H/H-man James Hobson made a great pair of Wolverine claws. They had this unique curved ends that made it look like the claws actually burst out in between his fingers. But when he saw Hack A Day’s electrified Mjolnir, Hobson was inspired to do the same.

Hobson hooked up the claws to an old transformer from an oil furnace. Here’s the result:

Hobson says that he could theoretically wear the electrified claws as long as he wore well-insulated gloves as well. Then maybe he can do this!

I hope Mr. Hobson has a healing factor as well.
