Cthulhu Beard Perfect for Decembeard in R’lyeh

With Movember behind us, we’re now in the thick, hairy middle of Decembeard, and for those of you without sufficient time to grow an entire beard, I have a slightly unorthodox solution.

cthulhu inflatable beard

Sure, this creepy green-tentacled Cthulhu beard might be considered cheating, but who in their right mind is going to stand in your way if you walk down the street wearing this. And if Lovecraft isn’t your thing, you could always paint it orange and tell people you’re Zoidberg.

You can find the Cthulhu inflatable beard over at Archie McPhee for $7.50(USD). Creepy red eyeball contacts sold separately.

AnyGlove Solution Makes Any Glove Touchscreen-Compatible

It’s winter and people still need to use their smartphones or tablets as much as ever. But buying a dedicated pair of touchscreen gloves could be an unnecessary expense. AnyGlove is a special solution that claims to make any glove touchscreen-compatible.

anyglove

AnyGlove’s secret potion works by simply putting a few drops on the fingertips of your gloves, providing the proper conductive properties to make capacitive touchscreens work. The concoction isn’t permanent, and you’ll need to reapply it every few days, depending on how much you use your gloves. Also, the liquid can stain lighter colored fabrics and yarns, but it’s invisible on darker materials.

You can get AnyGlove from Amazon for $14.95(USD). Depending on how long it lasts, it might be cheaper to just buy touchscren gloves, but I’m definitely curious to try these on my motorcycle gloves.

Zelda Wedding Rings: A Link to Your Soulmate

If you’re thinking about getting married, and both you and your significant other are into classic video games, then I can’t think of anything better than these Zelda wedding bands as a symbol of your undying commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another (and occasionally dust off the old NES console together.)

zelda wedding rings

Even if your names aren’t Link and Zelda, you’ll still want to wear these rings. They’re actually quite elegant from the outside, and only those in the know will realize the meaning of the Triforce on them. One of them is inscribed with “It’s Dangerous” and the other with “To Go Alone.” Awwwwww. That’s so sweet, I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. But seriously, these rings are pretty swell.

These were custom made by Toronto jewelry artist Zsolt Székely. They don’t list the pricing for these exact rings on their website, but says that their rings range from $295 for sterling silver designs up to $5000 and beyond for precious metals and diamonds. That’s a whole lot of rupees if you ask me, but well worth the price for something you’ll both cherish for years to come.

Sneaker Speaker: Sock Rockin’ Beats!

Are you the kind of person that likes to share your tunes with people, no matter if they like them or hate them? Check out the Sneaker Speaker, which will allow you blast your beats wherever the go, without missing a step.

sneaker speaker ray kingston

The Sneaker Speaker concept was created by Ray Kingston, and just like its name says, it’s a speaker that you wear on your sneaker. They are battery-powered as well as Bluetooth-enabled, so that you can rock out to tunes directly from your smartphone. The speakers are held in place by one or two straps, and can be moved around for optimal placement. When they aren’t being worn, the speakers can be charged up and powered by AC power – unless you have a really long extension cord, of course.

From the press release, it looks like these are a concept, at least for now. I’ll be curious to see if these get made.

Macy’s Shows off Sean John Sweater with OLED Display

Macy’s is talking up a very strange sweater that comes from men’s clothing designer Sean John. The sweater has a pocket in the sleeve that holds a small 2.8-inch OLED display device called the Video Name Tag.

The video screen itself has an internal rechargeable battery and promises roughly 6 hours of use per charge. The screen has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, and measures 2 3/8″ (W) x 1 3/4″ (H) x 3/8″ (D). The on-board media player also has 2 GB of internal memory for storing photos for a slideshow or short video clips. The display is removable allowing users to clean the sweater.

The display-packing sweater is available now in select Macy’s store locations around the country. Pricing for the sweater and display is unknown.

Necomimi Cat Ears Get Interchangeable Accessories

We have laughed more than a few times at the oddball product from NeuroSky called the Necomimi brainwave cat ears. The ears are designed to move back and forth depending on your mood based on reading your brain waves. Out of the box, the head-worn system comes with a large pair of white ears.

If you like the idea of wearing these odd cat ears, you might appreciate having some different ear styles to wear. NeuroSky is now showing off accessories to go along with the brainwave cat ears. Accessories include four different ear tips that can replace the default snowy white units.

The accessories include minky brown ears, leopard ears, obsidian black ears, and devil’s horns that would have been perfect for Halloween. There’s always next year, I suppose. Each accessory ear pack costs $19.95 (USD) over at the Necomimi shop.

Tokyoflash Kisai Space Digits Watch: Initially Dumbfounding but Easily Readable

Some watches are easy to read, and then there are some that are just plain indecipherable. While I prefer watches that are easy to read, and that allow you to tell the time but with a glance, this new Tokyoflash is a mix of both. Once you see the way the display works, it’s really easy to tell the time but anyone else who isn’t in the know will have trouble.

The Tokyoflash Kisai Space Digits watch is definitely something that Marty McFly would have liked on his wrist. It reminds me of TRON and some of the retro arcade games that involve travel through tunnels. The time is displayed on the walls of the tunnel, on the left and right. The date is displayed on the ceiling and floor of the tunnel. That sounds pretty straightforward, but you have to look at the watch for a few seconds before you really see it. There’s an alarm and EL backlight as well as an animation mode.

The Space Digits watch sells for $99(USD) until December 6, after which time, it will cost you $129. It’s available in sandblasted steel, black or gold. The display comes in either green or gold.

One Does Not Simply Dress Up as Mordor

…and Gondor, Eriador, Rohan, Arnor, Rhovanion and Rhun and whatever uncharted land is on Middle Earth. But Flickr user Kristy pulled it off with style at Dragon*Con:

middle earth map lord of the rings dress by cressiebeth from matt kristy

The dress was made by Flickr user Cressiebeth, who said “I worked with a graphic designer who created the “repeat” map pattern and Spoonflower.com printed the map on cotton sateen fabric. I used a vintage Simplicity pattern #3422 as a base for the dress and altered it with scalloping. The clutch was my own design and the “ring” was recycled from an old circle belt buckle.”

I think it’s the fact that it uses only a few colors – and muted ones at that – that prevents the whole thing from devolving into a walking globe costume.

MIO Alpha Heart Rate Watch: Looking for a Heartbeat

If you’ve ever used a heart rate monitor to track your fitness level while running or cycling, you’ll know that these usually aren’t compact devices. Most of them involve strapping a harness around your body so that the monitor can get a decent reading from your heart. This latest watch from MIO plans on getting rid of the bulk.

The MIO Alpha watch uses a sophisticated sensor that has an electro-optical cell and a pair of light beams to track the volume of blood under your wrist, and also compensates for the jostling of the sensor.

Data collected by the watch can be sent to your mobile device via Bluetooth 4.0. While it can continuously monitor your heart rate and activity times, the watch has no built-in GPS, so you’ll have to rely on a separate device or your smartphone for that.

The MIO Alpha was funded via Kickstarter earlier this year, and will go on sale for $199(USD) and will be available early next year at retail.

LED Astronaut Helmet: It’s Spaaaace Magic!

While most of us will never get the chance to travel to far-off planets in a spaceship, that doesn’t mean we can’t fantasize about space travel right here on planet Earth. If you’ve always wanted to be an astronaut, then you might want to order your very own space helmet.

led space helmet 1

This lightweight acrylic space helmet looks extra fine thanks to the bright LED lighting inside of it. These light strips can even change colors, thanks to the included remote control. While it might not keep you breathing in the vacuum of space, it is perfect for a night out on the town (assuming you go to raves or costume parties regularly.)

Adding to the effect are light-reactive fluorescent visor pivots, which glow even brighter when the LEDs are illuminated. You can expect at least 8 hours of light on a single charge of the included battery pack, so your mission flight can last all through the night.

Artist Jenn Mann made the first of these helmets for a David Bowie-themed party, but is now making them custom for those who want to join her on her journey through space.

The LED space helmet sells for $182(USD), which I think is a steal for something that looks this awesome.
