Oakley Airwave Goggles: Become the Robo Skier You’ve Always Wanted to Be

I have to admit that I didn’t think that heads-up display goggles would be initially be marketed to snowboarders, but I now look forward to having a HUD in my everyday eyewear, or on my motorcycle helmet.

The snow-sport focused Oakley Airwave Goggles have a little prism at the bottom right of your peripheral vision that displays useful information. You can see GPS/navigation routes, buddy tracking to find your friends with goggles, or friends who don’t have them but are running the app, as well as music controls, speed and jump analytics, and more.

You can even pair them to your smartphone and view incoming calls and texts. All of these features are controlled via a wrist remote, and the companion app will work on Android or iOS.

The HUD is perceived as a 14-inch screen that is five feet away, so refocusing of the eye isn’t necessary. The goggles have built-in GPS and accelerometers, so your data can be stored in them when your phone runs out of juice. The goggles are being launched today, and will sell for $599 (USD) at the Oakley Store.

Baby Ripley Power Loader Costume Takes Down the Alien Queen (and All Other Costumes)

Well, Halloween is upon us yet again, and my favorite costume of the year has just dropped onto my desktop. What you’re looking at here is an awesome build of the power loader from Aliens, piloted not by Ripley, but by an actual baby.

baby aliens power loader

Yes. It’s just that great. The costume was posted by Redditor rdt156, and apparently his friend Jason Smith built it to seat not just his daughter, but he’s hiding in there somewhere himself.

Now all he needs to do is have his wife dress up as the Alien Queen, and the costume would be truly complete.

Star Wars Huttese Translator Ring Lets You Text Message with Jabba

Have you ever wanted to communicate with Jabba the Hutt in his own native language? Maybe send a message saying that you have captured and cryogenically-frozen Han Solo and are transporting him now? Well, here is the gadget for you.

huttese ring
This stylish Huttese decoder ring is only $13.99(USD), and for that price you can now communicate effectively with the Hutts and maybe even be a part of their galactic crime empire. With this ring you can rise through their ranks, becoming a big time player. Hopefully it won’t end with you sleeping with the Banthas. (No fishes on Tatooine.)

I’m gonna get one so that I can finally understand that 900 page Huttese epic I can never get through. It should only take a few years to translate it.

Official Star Trek Socks Not Part of the Official Federation Uniform

I’ve gone over and over it again in my mind. I cannot for the life of me remember what sort of socks they wore with their uniforms – or if you could even see them. All I know is that I’m pretty sure they didn’t look as good as these.

These comfy knitted cotton/poly socks available in engineering red, science blue and command gold for all you original series fans out there. Though I think I wouldn’t want to wear the red ones, in the event they have the same effect as wearing a red shirt.

The Star Trek socks are available over on ThinkGeek for $24.99(USD) for three pair, including one in each color. Mix-and-match ‘em if you feel like multitasking between the bridge and engineering.

Little Miss Shepard & Mr. Shepard T-shirts: Your Favorite Clothes in the Dillydale

Two cute T-shirts that mashes up a game for mature audiences and literature for kids. Mass Effect and the children’s books Little Miss and Mr. Men. Somehow it works. Look at Little Miss Shepard’s cute nose.

There’s also a Mister Shepard, equally adorable with his Paragon smile.

The Ultimate Medieval Beer Helmet Holds Two Flagons of Mead

There’s nothing more obnoxious than one of those guys with a pair of camouflage party pants and a hat that you can sip beer out of. But leave it to the geeks of the world to make drinking beer from a helmet just a little cooler.

Instructables contributor DucttapeNinja decided that the tacky sportsfan beer helmet needed a proper LARP-ing, and created this beer-sipping helmet thats’ based on Gimli’s helmet from the Lord of the Rings movies.

medieval beer helmet 2

I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve seen armor that provides both head protection and ready access to alcohol – which is always a good thing to have around should you find yourself on the losing end of an axe fight.

DucttapeNinja thinks his helmet design could easily be applied to any helmet you’d like, so you could go for anything from a Beerba Fett, to a Sh*tfaced Spartan to a Daft Drunk with the proper helmet, and DtN’s Instructables beer helmet tutorial in hand.

Ricky Bobby’s Wonder Bread Tracksuit up for Auction: If You Don’t Bid the Most, You’re Last

Thank you Lord baby Jesus… (and god bless the pygmies.) Ricky Bobby’s tracksuit from the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is up for auction via a movie memorabilia company called ScreenUsed. The suit is an actual Sparco racing suit worn by professional racers, or in this case, Will Ferrell, when he played NASCAR racer Ricky Bobby.

It includes the Puma shoes Ferrell wore in the film as well as the Wonder Bread hat. If a racing suits isn’t your thing, this company is also putting up a ton of other awesome and geeky movie props and memorabilia in an auction to be held on November 3, 2012, which also includes some fun screen-used Star Trek and Star Wars items.

Other items up for auction include Neo’s coat from The Matrix Revolutions, Jayne Cobb’s Vera machine gun from Firefly, and even the Superman bodysuit Christopher Reeve wore in Superman III. You can even pick the gold jumpsuit with cape that Mike Myers wore in Goldmember – complete with padded crotch. There is a lot of other stuff in the auction too. I can’t decide if I want Ricky Bobby’s diving suit or the endoskeleton chest from Terminator 2: Judgment Day the most.

Ricky Bobby’s outfit is expected to fetch between $4,000 and $6,000 (USD).

The 1:Face Watch: Support a Good Cause While Telling the Time

You’ve probably seen people with rubber-band-like bracelets advocating one cause or another, but if you’re like me, you’d appreciate something a little more functional. The 1:Face Watch supports a variety of causes and lets you tell the time at the same time.

face watch indiegogo project

The 1:Face Watch was designed by Mirza Minds. It’s quite minimal, which I like. Each color supports a different cause. The white watch provides food for children, the pink watch provides a mammogram for someone in need.

All of these causes are backed by reputable charities, so you don’t have to worry about where your money is going to.

The 1:Face Watch was launched as an Indiegogo project, and you can get in on the action for as little as $40(USD). With 27 days left, the project has amassed over $100,000 in funding, with a goal of $25,000 so it will definitely go into production

Wolverine Classic Hoodie: Adamantium Claws Sold Seperately

While many of us are used to Hugh Jackman’s big-screen version of Wolverine, comic book purists prefer the original version, complete with yellow body and pointy black ears. So here you go…

wolverine hoodie 1

The Logan in this Wolverine Hoodie won’t be turning up in any Broadway (or network television) musicals, as it’s based on Len Wein and John Romita, Sr.’s classic yellow and blue Wolverine from the pages of the X-Men comics. The hood itself zips up to reveal only your beady little eyes and the most menacing grimace you can muster.

It sells for $57.99(USD) over at SuperHeroStuff and is available in Men’s sizes S-XXL. You might be down to the wire for a Halloween costume order, but SuperHeroStuff does ship within 1 business day, and offers express shipping for an added fee.

Oh, and if you do need those claws to go with, you can find plenty over on Amazon.
