Garmin Forerunner 10: A Thinner, Lighter, Cheaper GPS Watch

GPS watches are great to track your runs, but most of them are kind of bulky. This new lightweight series from Garmin isn’t aimed at triathletes. It’s made to compete with some of the watches from Nike and Polar, which make it dead simple to track your runs.

The Garmin Forerunner 10 offers training features like a virtual pacer and auto pause settings, as well as a run/walk setting for beginning runners. The display shows the amount of calories burned, speed, distance and time. It will come in a few bright and bold colors, including apple green and cotton candy pink, as well as basic black, and it’s definitely less bulky than many of the other models on the market today.

Garmin usually offers expensive training watches, with a lot of features that most people don’t need. Nike+ is becoming widely adopted, so this $129(USD) watch hopes to offer a reasonably-priced alternative when it’s released this Fall.

Super Mario Bros. Question Mark Ring: a 1-Up in Fistfights

It’s the classic question mark icon from the Super Mario Bros. games. I’m not sure if its classy enough to be used to propose to someone, but it could come in handy in a fight. And you know how often us geeks get into fisticuffs right?

Each sterling silver question mark ring is made to order and it takes about 12-15 business days to be made.

SYSTM iPhone Cases: Ruggedly Handsome

I’m very particular about what kind of case I get for my iPhone. I have but a few, and it can take me a long time to find ones that appeal to me. But I have to say that the durable SYSTM iPhone cases look pretty spiffy.

While some rugged cases look pretty drab, the SYSTM iPhone cases from Incase are very good-looking, and come in nice, bold color combinations. There are five models to choose from, and each of them has got some interesting design elements. They have raised side bumpers, reinforced corners, and the Vise, Chisel and Hammer models even have Poron XRD cushioning foam to protect your precious iPhone from drops and bumps.

Prices for the SYSTM iPhone Cases range from $24.95 and $49.95(USD), and you can check out the whole line-up over at Systm.

Romain Jerome Pac-Man Watch Will Gobble up Your Money

So you just sold your entire videogame collection and you’re swimming in money. You already bought the Space Invaders wristwatch, but you’re still Scrooge McDuck! What to do? I suggest you add the official Pac-Man watch to your shopping list.

Romain Jerome – the same company who made the Space Invaders watch – teamed up with Namco to make four ever so slightly different Pac-Man watch designs each limited to just 20 pieces. I’m not sure why they didn’t just make 80 of the one above, because the other three variants all look inferior to it on account of having fewer Pac-Man characters. But I guess if all of them have parts made of “steel fused with parts of the Apollo 11″ and “low oxidation silver fused with moon rocks”, 8-bit icons are just a quirky bonus.

The watches will be exclusively launched at the Colette store in Paris starting September 3, followed by a wider availability on September 10. Each watch will be sold for $17,900 (USD). Wakka-wakka-WHAT?!?

Severed Wampa Arm Keeps the Ice off Your Windshield This Winter

It’s a little-known fact that Jedi Knights and Native Americans share something in common. Namely, they use every part of the animals they kill. What you didn’t know about The Empire Strikes Back was that after Luke hacked off the hungry Wampa’s arm, he kept it.

I’m sure you’re curious exactly what Luke did with a furry, severed Wampa arm. He used it to scrape the ice off the windows of his Snowspeeder between missions on Hoth. Now you can follow in Luke’s footsteps thanks to ThinkGeek with the really cool Star Wars Wampa Ice Scraper Mitt.

The mitt is really designed for scraping ice too with a fuzzy glove to keep your hand nice and toasty while you scrape. The glove section of the mitt is machine washable and it has a nice 3 x 4-inch ice scraper in the palm. The Wampa Arm Ice Scraper will be available in early October for $24.99(USD).

Nuclear Watch: A Pre-Apocalyptic Time Telling Device

Most watches with glow-in-the dark parts achieve the effect using special paint that absorbs light and reflects it back for an extended period. But the faint glow from the Nuclear Watch comes from decaying radioactive hydrogen atoms. They died for you!

nuclear watch

According to its product page, each watch contains about 100 quadrillion radioactive hydrogen atoms, divided among the dials and hands of the watch. The atoms are stored in a glass tube that is lined with phosphorescent material. As the hydrogen atoms decay, the electrons they emit hit the lining. This causes the glow. The page also claims that about 250 million of the hydrogen atoms decay every second, but their sheer number means that the watch will keep glowing 24/7 for 25 years.

If you’re not creeped out at the thought of carrying an atomic genocide on your wrist, order the Nuclear Watch from Gadgets & Gear for $175 (USD).

Papercraft Crysis Nanosuit 2.0 is a True Work of Art

I’ve always been impressed by the things papercraft artists can pull off with simple paper, glue and an X-Acto knife. I’m particularly blown away by this paper model of the Nanosuit 2.0 from Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.

nanosuit 2 paper model 1

The model was created by Julius Perdana of Paper Replika, after initially building a 1/6th scale model of the Nanosuit a couple of years ago as a commission for Crytek.

Recently, Julius came across a Crysis 3 promotional image of the Nanosuit 2.0 equipped with a tactical bow, and decided to make an even more impressive version of the model, along with the bow.

The template for the model was drawn as a scalable vector image, with all of the details handdrawn by the artist. I can only imagine that means he could produce a life-size model using the same vector art if he had the time and inclination. You can check out more images of the Nanosuit 2.0 papercraft model over on Paper Replika, where you can also download the template and assembly instructions so you can assemble your own.

TARDIS Ring is Realer Than the TARDIS

Are you one of the many Whovians who wished that you could get your hands – or finger – on the TARDIS ring concept? You wish has come true! Gino Arizmendi, the man who came up with the concept, is now taking orders for the ring.

Sadly BBC turned down Arizmendi’s request to license their storied sci-fi series, so this ring is now officially known as the Police Box Ring.

Awesome Mom Paints Her Son’s Converse, Dark Knight Style

So last week, we saw how awesome dads could be. First, there was the dad who built his daughter her very own backyard roller coaster. Then there was the dad who turned his kid’s toy car into a real one. But moms can be awesome, too, and today we’ve got an example of one. Now what she did might not be something of epic proportions or mechanical in nature, but it’s a labor of love, just like what those dads did.

Redditor zacch wanted a pair of Batman Converse, but didn’t have the cash. So instead of buying one for him, his mom took one of his old pairs and painted all sorts of cool Batman stuff on them.

Converse Mom
Not only do they look awesome, but they’re also one-of-a-kind, considering that his mom customized them and all.

The post on Reddit has amassed a lot of praise, comments, and request, which prompted zacch’s mom to accept requests for customized shoes. If you’re interested in getting a pair of customized kicks, check out his mom’s blog and use the email on that site to send in your requests or inquiries.
