Easybreath Snorkel Mouth Gives Snorkeling A Makeover

If you’re the sort that like to dive underwater and go on snorkeling trips, then perhaps you might want to invest in a snorkel mask like the Easybreath mask. The device was created by a water sports company in France, and they actually won first place in the 2014 Oxylane Innovation Awards, so safe to say it has something going for it!

So what makes the Easybreath so different from other snorkels? Well for starters, it allows the wearer to break with their nose and mouth. Typically snorkels are worn in the mouth, allowing the wearer to breathe only with their mouth. For the trained snorkeler, we guess this has become a habit and they’re used to it.

But for the occasional snorkeler or something doing it for the first time, it can be jarring. According to a diving center manager, “We naturally disassociate mouth from nose. In other words, we breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth, so when we put on a mask, we can only breathe through the mouth.”

This is where the Easybreath comes in, which allows the diver to breathe more naturally. Other features of the Easybreath includes a wider field of vision, and there’s a bright orange stopper at the top of the mask that prevents water from entering when the wearer is submerged, and also serves as a “beacon” of sorts to other divers and boaters.

Unfortunately the Easybreath isn’t quite as available as it should be, mainly because its company, Tribord, does not have the capacity to ship these devices worldwide. However they are expected to make their way to Decathlon stores in Europe by the end of May.

Steve Jobs Might Be Portrayed By Leonardo DiCaprio

Steve Jobs Might Be Portrayed By Leonardo DiCaprio

Aaron Sorkin has already penned a new Steve Jobs biopic that has been adapted from his official biography. Though so far it is not known who is going to portray the deceased Apple co-founder and CEO. Previous rumors suggested that David Fincher was in talks to direct and that he was reaching out to Christian Bale for the lead. Latest word on the street is that Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle is being tapped to direct, and that he has already reached out to Leonardo DiCaprio to possibly star as Jobs.

A recent report suggested that Sony Pictures had balked at the demands being made by David Fincher, which included high pay and control over the film’s marketing. The studio is now in talks to sign Boyle who has already worked with DiCaprio in the past.

DiCaprio has had ample experience of playing the visionary guy in a number of films, the most notable of which is The Aviator. He portrayed Howard Hughes in that film and nailed all the nuances of the character. Still one might argue that there really isn’t a lot of resemblance between the two, but if Ashton Kutcher can be made to look like Steve Jobs, anything is possible.

Sorkin has revealed that the film will essentially consist of three 30-minute scenes which depict three important events in Jobs personal and professional life. Filming is expected to begin next year provided that the studio is able to get cast and crew onboard.

Samsung Innovation Museum Opens In South Korea

Samsung Innovation Museum Opens In South Korea

To mark the 45th anniversary of Samsung Electronics, the Korean juggernaut today opened Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon, South Korea. This five story, 10,950 square meter building in located inside the Samsung Digital City in Suwon. Kwon Oh-hyun, Samsung CEO, said at the opening event that this museum gives visitors an opportunity to see how far technology has come and from where Samsung draws inspiration for future products.

One might think that this museum would be a shrine to everything-Samsung, but that is actually not the case. On display are 150 inventions and products from individuals as well as competing companies like Apple, apart from Samsung’s own products.

The museum has been divided into three main halls with each representing a different “Age.” The Age of Inventors includes inventions that laid the foundations of modern technology, from individuals like Thomas Edison, Michael Faraday and Alexander Graham Bell. Hall 2 is called Age of Industry Innovation. This features inventions related to semiconductors, mobile telecommunications and displays. Some of the world’s earliest smartphones are also on display though Samsung has naturally gone to great lengths to ensure that its mobile products take center stage. Similar products from Sony, Sharp, Nokia and Motorola are also on display. Age of Creation is highlighted in the last hall, here the focus is greatly upon Samsung’s latest devices and services.

A Samsung History Hall has also been created to showcase the journey and challenges that the company has faced up till now. The museum is open to public from Monday to Saturday, though visitors stopping by during weekdays will require a reservation.

Microsoft Holograph Technology Ushers In The Future

Microsoft Holograph Technology Ushers In The FutureThe future of interactive user interfaces might be here already, assuming you are into cool looking 3D holograms that tend to be featured in sci-fi movies and TV shows. Microsoft Research has shown off a new project known as Holograph recently, where it was put through the paces, rendering large amounts of data, and not only in 3D, but also in a manner where it resembles as though it is being projected above a display.

Holograph’s team leader Curtis Wong shared on how this particular project is able to deliver a way to create visuals with data that is put within, such as Excel. Wong continued, “That enables anybody with any kind of data, like location or time, to easily plot that data onto a map or globe. If you select ‘date,’ and you have date or time information, you’ll be able to watch that data play out over time.”

Holograph will surely do its bit to make real the dreams of sci-fi fans, including the famous Princess Leia hologram in “Star Wars” where she was projected by R2-D2, saying, “You’re my only hope.” Perhaps a game of 3D battleships or 3D chess might be able to make traditional games all the more popular. Samsung.com Down Because Of Samsung Building Fire

For those of you who have been on the receiving end of error messages on your Samsung smartphone, and had been scratching your head all day long, trying to figure out just what could have led to such a situation, it is time that you no longer wonder. Apparently, the Samsung.com website was not made accessible to the masses on the Internet simply because of a fire that happened at the Samsung SDS building which is located in Gwacheon, South Korea. The particular site was unavailable, where it led to error messages on many of Samsung’s products, where these include their array of smartphones, of course. The website outage happened until this morning at 6:15am EST, when the site returned online, with the entire gamut of services restored as well.

That particular fire began on Easter Sunday afternoon (we’re looking at Korean time here) on the building’s fourth floor, which so happened to contain the back-up data center for the South Korean consumer electronics giant. There were several credit card related services that encountered the error message, although one must take note that the main data center that is located in Suwon was not affected by this blaze.

Thankfully, no fatalities were reported in South Korean media, and as far as we know, things have more or less returned to normal despite the video above depicting a far more adverse effect.

Boat In Apple Maps Thought To Be Nessie At First

Boat In Apple Maps Thought To Be Nessie At FirstApple Maps might be able to get you from point A to point B in an unfamiliar territory, but this does not mean that it is the first app or program that people go to in order to find their way around. Google Maps is, no doubt about it, still the undisputed king when it comes to navigational apps, and Nokia’s free HERE Maps too, does a pretty good job. Of course, there are some strange events in Google’s online services including a lady who caught her fiance cheating on her, now what are the odds of that happening? Apple Maps is not immune to its own strangeness, too, as some claim that satellite photos offered by Apple shows off what could be Nessie, the nickname for the fabled Loch Ness monster. The thing is, ‘Nessie’ happened to be nothing more than a boat, plain and simple.

A superior version of the satellite photo has depicted a boat, and this image is not seen on Google Maps at the moment. Of course, in a low resolution image, it could be mistaken for the famous creature that some folks believe exist deep in the loch, although naysayers have long claimed that this is nothing more than a wake from a boat – which has proven to be that exactly in a higher resolution.

The human mind is certainly extremely adept at seeing what it wants to see, and will be able to carve out a niche of its imagination to deliver an interesting synopsis on a particular situation. What next, Bigfoot appearing on Apple Maps?

Nokia’s Phone Division Will Be Named Microsoft Mobile

nokia-headquarters-logo-sign-001-630x472

Back in September last year Nokia announced its intention to sell its devices and services business to Microsoft. Since then the deal has had to go through several regulatory hoops, and barring a couple of minor hiccups, it has sailed through federal regulators as well as Nokia’s shareholders. Microsoft expects to close the deal later this month. Nokia’s phone business will thus be renamed. While Redmond hasn’t made an official announcement as yet, an email sent by the company to suppliers reveals that Nokia’s phone division will be renamed Microsoft Mobile Oy. (Oy is Finland’s equivalent of Ltd.)

The division, Microsoft Mobile, will stay in Finland as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Microsoft. Official business address will be changed from Nokia HQ on Keilalahdentie to Keilaranta in Espoo. Apart from the change in legal address another change after close of the transaction would be the removal of Nokia’s logo from purchase orders.

Since Microsoft assumes all rights, benefits and obligations of Nokia’s devices and services business, including its agreements with suppliers and partners, Redmond will continue to do business with them. The company tells suppliers that they can also continue to do business with Nokia, for example on Advanced Technologies, NSN and HERE Maps, for which the Finnish company will communicate with them separately.

Michaels Arts And Crafts Retailer Confirms Customer Data Security Breach

Michaels Arts And Crafts Retailer Confirms Customer Data Security BreachIf you’re in need of arts and crafts supplies, there is a chance that you might have headed over to Michaels Stores, a company which is considered to one of the largest retailers with regards to arts and crafts supplies in the US. Back in January this year, the company warned that their systems could have experienced a security breach, but it was only today that the company confirmed it.

According to Michaels Stores, the breach apparently took place between the 8th of May 2013 to the 27th of January 2014. The company estimates that 2.6 million cards might have been affected. While this is a huge number, it only constitutes to about 7% of the payment cards used at its stores during the period, so not all of Michaels Stores’ customers are affected.

The company also claims that data such as customers’ names or personal identification numbers were at risk, but we guess it doesn’t hurt for you to change it anyway, just to be on the safe side of things. The malware that allowed the breach has since been dealt with and the company is working with law enforcement officials, banks, and payment processors to ensure that nothing is amiss.

For customers who have been affected by this breach, Michaels Stores has announced that they will be providing them with fraud monitoring and identity protection services. This isn’t the first time that the company has been breached and it joins other companies such as Target and LaCie who have recently experienced similar breaches themselves.

Amazon Germany Workers Go On Strike Again

Amazon Germany Workers Go On Strike AgainHmmm, it seems that Amazon Germany is suffering from another hiccup yet again. German labor union Verdi did ask workers who earn a living over at online retailer Amazon in Germany (where else) to go on strike today, with the raison d’être being a dispute in pay, which has gone on for quite some time apparently. This is not the first time that Amazon Germany’s workers went on strike, as it happened last year before Christmas.
