Google Pulled Over 60,000 Low Quality Apps From Play Store In February

Google Pulled Over 60,000 Low Quality Apps From Play Store In February

Getting an app approved on the iTunes App Store is no easy task. Apple has strict guidelines that developers have to follow, or their apps wouldn’t be accepted. This is not the case with Google, who has often been criticized for its rather “open” app ecosystem for Android. Nevertheless Google regularly removes apps that are spam or are non-compliant. The company reportedly removed as much as 60,000 low quality apps in the month of February alone, making it the largest round of low quality app cleanup to date.

Google is a bit different from Apple when it comes to accepting apps. The latter has an army of reviews that check every app to make sure it complies with their guidelines. Google doesn’t do that, rather it scans Play Store after the apps go live. This greatly helps the company to improve its automated spam handling system. Google has a separate section in its policies which says that spam apps will definitely be removed, and developers are given a set of guidelines that they should follow so as to not have their apps branded as spam.

Austin Will Be Connected To Google Fiber By 2014

It was rumored last week that Google was going to expand Google Fiber to Austin. The early reports were confirmed via a number of sources and sure enough, the official announcement of the Fiber expansion in to Austin was made. A crucial question remained unanswered, when exactly would Austin be connected to Google Fiber? In a blog post today the company has announced that it plans to connect Austin to Google Fiber by mid-2014. The choice of products available will be similar to what is offered in Kansas City, this includes Gigabit Internet or Google Fiber TV with over 200 HD channels and Gigabit Internet. The company says that it is still working out pricing details.

Google says that pricing for Fiber in Austin would be roughly similar to Kansas City, and as it does in Kansas City, customers in Austin will be offered a free 5 mbps Internet connection for 7 years if they pay a one time construction fee. Google also has plans to connect many public institutions of Austin to fiber, including schools, community centers and hospitals at a gigabit for no charge.

UK Government Considering Paying Authors A Fee When Their Ebooks Are Checked Out From A Library

UK Government Considering Paying Authors A Fee When Their Ebooks Are Checked Out From A LibraryAs a kid when I wanted to search for information, my best bet would be to either ask my parents, go through thick and heavy encyclopedias (some of you guys might remember them), or head to the library and go through books one by one. Now with technology, tapping a few keys on the keyboard, a couple of clicks and I would have found what I want, thus reducing the need for me or a lot of people to actually visit the library. In a bid to make sure that libraries remain relevant and up to date with the latest technology, such as providing ebooks and the likes, the UK government is considering paying writers royalty every time their ebooks or audio books are “checked out” from the library. The Email Guitar Lets You Shred Your Way To Responding To Correspondences

If you were impressed with David Neevel’s previous contraption which was able to separate the cream from an OREO cookie, then you’re going to dig his latest project called the Email Guitar.

Instead of sitting behind a computer screen all day and using an archaic input method like the keyboard to type in all of your correspondences, you’ll be able to shred your way into a perfectly constructed email as the Email Guitar translates the notes played on a guitar to its corresponding letter on a keyboard. The results of Neevel’s experiment certainly looks cool, but we can’t imagine responding to an urgent email as you fumble your way through a sentence.

The Email Guitar was brought together with a combination of a Flying V guitar, an Arduino, a custom relay board and a Roland GR-33 guitar synthesizer. If you happen to have all of those at your computer desk right now and feel like creating an Email Guitar of your own, Neevel posted plans and code to help. Just remember to send him a “Thank You” email when you’re fighting off waves of women who are totally into your emailing methods.
