Samsung VP Confirms WatchWe all have heard of rumors concerning Apple moving into the timepiece category, which would definitely be strange to the ears just like how the iPhone rumors sparked off a “Huh?!” look from certain quarters when it started to make its rounds on the Internet. Perhaps an iWatch, as it has been called at the moment, might not be too crazy of an idea to implement, especially when you have Google and their Project Glass. Well, assuming Samsung is anticipating Apple’s future move, their mobile executive VP, Lee Young Hee, mentioned in a Bloomberg interview, “We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

There is no idea on the release date on such a device, although Lee did stress that they want to be the first to commercialize such a device without sacrificing on functionality for consumers. So far, no reported leaks have appeared concerning the Samsung watch, but do you think that it will run on the Android operating system? Of course, rumors have been going around that the iWatch from Apple could arrive by the end of this year, so we await with bated breath for Samsung’s next move.

3D Printed Gun Maker Can Sell Firearms With Federal License

3D Printed Gun Maker Can Sell Firearms With Federal LicenseEver heard of Defense Distributed before? No? Neither have we, and it is interesting to know that Defense Distributed is actually a project for open-sourced 3D-printable guns, and the “project” has actually picked up a federal license that allows them to not only manufacture, but to sell firearms as well. According to Defense Distributed’s Facebook page, they announced last Saturday alongside an image of the license and a caption that says, “The work begins!”

Thanks to the nod of approval from the U.S. Government, Defense Distributed head Cory Wilson is now a free man to make money by selling and transporting the pieces that they have been rolling out from their production lines, but of course, as part of the deal, the onus is on them to keep records of all production and transactions. Defense Distributed is said to be a nonprofit organization, and has already churned out prototypes over the past few months, where among them include the most recent: a 3D-printed semi-automatic which is capable of spitting out over 600 rounds. Does this mean firearms are now easier to obtain with a 3D printer? What happens when their schematics get leaked by a hacker?

Verizon To Adopt Pay What You Watch Only Model

Verizon To Adopt Pay What You Watch Only ModelIt seems that Verizon has every intention of shouldering even more channels on its FiOS TV service, but they only want to fork out money for what their customers are watching at that point in time. According to the good people over at The Wall Street Journal, Verizon intends to pay the individual channels based on the number of “unique views” in a span of five minutes or higher that they rack up on a monthly basis, as compared to the mandatory monthly fees that each subscriber forks out with the current business model. Apart from that, Verizon intends to make full use of their very own set-top box data instead of Nielsen ratings in order to calculate the views.

Do you smell a rat here? We cannot blame Verizon for realizing that there are benefits associated with paying for TV based on an a la carte premise, as that could very well be what we would be doing if we were in Verizon’s shoes. According to Verizon’s chief programming negotiator Terry Denson, he informed The wall Street Journal that Verizon is currently negotiating with “midtier and smaller” media companies, and although negotiations have seen some progress, there is opposition to this rather disruptive model. What do you think of Verizon’s move – are you in support of it or not?

FabCafe Lets You Print A 3D Gummy Of YourselfJapan is a certainly interesting country with its fair share of quirks and culture as well, and the roles are reversed during Valentine’s Day as that is when girls give the guys whom they are in love with or have a crush on, chocolate as well as gifts that come in other forms. It is not all one way though, as a month after that, there is “White Day,” where the guys have a chance to reciprocate by giving them girls their gifts. It was White Day in Japan recently, and FabCafe in Tokyo has conjured a rather unique gift idea for the men to surprise their sweethearts with.

FabCafe picked nine males to get their bodies scanned, transforming all of that into 3D printed gummies. These custom-made 3D-printed gummies are not easy on your pockets though, as it costs around $62 a pop, coming in different colors and flavors for variety. Definitely wins points for being unique and different from the usual flowers and chocolates.

Electronic Billboard Hacked In Belgrade

Electronic Billboard Hacked In BelgradeWhile old school billboards that are set up with printed paper can be defaced via acts of vandalism in the physical sense, electronic billboards which require far less manpower to change the face of it as all you need to do is to flash a new image or file, are susceptible to the dark art of hacking. Yes sir, those in the advertising world who decided to make the move from printed billboards to those with LCD and LED units might have overlooked such a danger, as an example in Belgrade, Serbia recently demonstrated.

The electronic billboard that was raised at Republic Square in the center of Belgrade is one that will not fail to catch the eye of anyone in the vicinity. The display has been hacked to depict the logo of The Pirate Bay, while sporting a peace symbol with a quote from Gandhi, stating, “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

This whole exercise was done by a group of computer science students to show just how loose security is in the IT field, although the Serbian media claimed otherwise that Anonymous were the ones behind the attack, as those students trumpeted denials of being linked to Anonymous.
