AT&T took the wraps off its LTE-toting mobile hotspot dubbed as the AT&T Unite earlier this month, but didn’t specify how much it will cost. Well, today, the carrier is announcing that the AT&T Unite will be available for $0.99 together with a two-year contract on February 8th. Sporting a 2.4-inch touchscreen display, the AT&T Unite promises to connect up to ten Wi-Fi-enabled devices at once. Going in par with AT&T’s blazing LTE speeds is its 10-hour battery life, which should be enough for road warriors. (more…)

South Korean chaebols LG and Samsung seems to be learning some of its business strategies from the good book. According to Yonhap News, executives from both companies met on Monday this week to resolve a patent dispute involving their display business.

Talk about the worst-case scenario for a day at work. You wake up early, eat a hearty breakfast, and drive your car to the office, only to be told that the office has been closed and that you’ve been fired from your job. Unfortunately, these situation happened to a few employees at Best Buy stores in Canada. Apparently Best Buy Canada already had plans of closing seven of its stores across the country, as well as eight other future locations. The only problem was that Best Buy did not notify or inform its employees. 
February is coming, and you know what that month means for all mobile users like you and me. With the Mobile World Congress kicking off next month in Barcelona, Intel is grabbing the opportunity to unveil its product line-up for the big event. Intel has just posted a public invitation for its series of events which will start on February 15th and will end on the 28th. Interestingly, Intel’s schedule reveals that the company will be displaying smartphones, tablets, and ultrabooks that are targeted at both the emerging and developed markets. 
The touchscreen revolution has certainly come a long way since the Apple iPhone brought touchscreen goodness to mainstream viability back in 2007 (has it been more than 5 years already? Time sure as heck passes by all too quickly when you’re having fun). Google has a veritable pool of talented folk running the show, and it seems that the Internet search giant has set their sights on a new kind of touch typing experience which has been mapped to a full, two-handed physical keyboard.
Apparently Google’s very own Trekkers have been busy mapping the entire world. Google announced that Google Earth now includes more than 100,000 new tours and 1 million photos via Tour Guide. These are now available on Google Earth for Android, iOS, and the desktop. “Today’s update adds over 100,000 new tours of popular sites, cities and places across 200 countries, as well as enhancements to existing tours,” Google said. 
TeleGeography, a telecommunications research and consulting firm that specializes in international networks, service providers, and undersea cables, has released an updated version of its Submarine Cable Map. TeleGeography’s 2013 Submarine Cable Map features a new design that is inspired by star charts and antique maps. I got to admit that it looks pretty cool. The new map also historically hints a connection between submarine cables and cartography, plotting around 244 – 232 in-service and 12 planned – active cables including ones expected to go live next year.
