Samsung Did Not Infringe On Apple’s Patents Willfully

apple vs samsung Samsung Did Not Infringe On Apple’s Patents Willfully In the hotly contested Apple vs Samsung case, Judge Lucy Koh has finally handed down a number of the first rulings in the case’s post-trial proceedings. While Apple was granted its motion to invalidate several claims of a Samsung patent, Koh also denied Apple five others. One of the key denials was a request for a new trial that will have willful infringement on Apple’s patents by Samsung. This is a significant victory for Samsung, as having overturning the jury’s finding that Samsung acted willfully in infringing on Apple’s patents, it would mean Apple is unable to claim not double, but rather a mind blowing triple damages that were associated with the suit.

The ruling stated, “Here, the jury found that there was no subjective willfulness, and the Court agrees that this finding was supported by substantial evidence in the record. Therefore, even if the Court were to find the objective prong satisfied, there can be no ultimate willfulness determination. Accordingly, the Court need not reach the objective analysis.”

It seems that they will be closing around 200 stores in the years to come as part of their corporate strategy in shifting more attention and focus to the digital book market. Do take note that until 2009, Barnes & Noble did open approximately 30 new stores annually.

DARPA Wants Self-Destructing Electronics

vapor electronics DARPA Wants Self Destructing ElectronicsI am quite sure that most of us out there have seen at least one episode of Mission Impossible where the message self-destructs after relating the mission to whoever is listening in to it. Well, the research arm of the Pentagon, DARPA, intend to work on next generation military hardware which is said to self-destruct at a certain point in its life. Sensors that are suicidal? There’s no need for a shrink for such shorted silicon, yo!

Basically, DARPA is looking into sensors and other “sophisticated electronic microsystems” which will have their place in a warzone, and will self-destruct after a while, so that opposing forces who pick them up cannot apply the techniques of reverse engineering and come up with formidable weapons of their own. How about a smartphone that self-destructs after you lose it, simply because you sent activated a “kill switch” remotely? That would be cool, and the thief who took your smartphone might actually see his or her pants catch fire as it melts. I want in on such tech, how about you?
