Steven Sinofsky Launches New Blog About Product Development

steven sinofsky Steven Sinofsky Launches New Blog About Product DevelopmentIt is a new start for ex-Windows executive Steven Sinofsky. Sinofsky, who left Microsoft in November last year, was a key piece to the success of Windows 7 and Windows 8, as well as Microsoft’s very own Surface tablet. But for the 47-year old Microsoft veteran, success will be easier this time around, knowing that “he’s been there and has done that.” We recently learned that Sinofsky has gone back to his teaching career at Harvard, where he teaches about the “ins and outs” of product development. Gorilla Glass 3 To Debut At CES 2013

gg3 Gorilla Glass 3 To Debut At CES 2013[CES 2013] We first heard of Gorilla Glass from Corning some years back, and while it is not shatterproof or could be used to deflect a punch from the Incredible Hulk, Gorilla Glass is said to be far tougher and more rigid than the standard issue display that you find on portable devices such as smartphones, tablets and the like. Well, it seems that Gorilla Glass has received a sequel since then, and at CES 2013, we would be privy to the new generation of super-tough Gorilla Glass that will be formally known as Gorilla Glass 3. How creative, huh? Perhaps all the bananas that the team had eaten during its development had stunted the naming part.

Corning promises “a new glass composition with durability enhancements” which would mean your consumer electronics devices that feature Gorilla Glass 3 will be able to withstand even more abuse than ever before. Well, what is next for Gorilla Glass 4, something that even Wolverine is unable to slice through? [Press Release]

Space Radiation Accelerates Alzheimer’s Disease

space Space Radiation Accelerates Alzheimers DiseaseIt looks like insomnia isn’t just a problem for astronauts in space. According to a new research, space radiation may speed up the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists have discovered that a specific kind of space radiation known as high-mass, high-charged (or HZE) particles poses a threat to astronauts. These cosmic radiations, most likely the result of exploding stars, move in space at very high speeds and can punch through solid objects such as a spacecraft. (more…)

Kinectic LED Hats Are Just What The Fashion Doctor Ordered

kinetic led Kinectic LED Hats Are Just What The Fashion Doctor OrderedWe all would like to be the best dressed person in the room whenever we step into a party in full swing, and anathema to those who wear the same dress as you. Well, this fashion faux pas has happened in the past before, where such situations are not exclusive only to celebrities, but to normal folks like you and I as well. Well, one thing’s for sure, if you were to merge technology with fashion, you would have lowered the chances of that happening. Take for instance, in this rather exquisite collaboration with couture hat designer Philip Treacy, where Moritz Waldemeyer came up with a collection of kinetic LED hats for the Treacy’s catwalk show that took place at the Royal Courts of Justice.

The model is wearing a hat that spins right above her head, where the kinetic LED lights will then result in a magical halo effect. There is also another extraordinary (albeit impractical) piece that envelops the model in a net of light, ensuring that the human’s presence disappears in its entirety. Not too sure what I have to say about the latter, but the former is definitely eye catching in its own right.

Optimus Popularis Life Sized Booth At CES 2013 By Art Lebedev

optimus stand Optimus Popularis Life Sized Booth At CES 2013 By Art Lebedev Art Lebedev, the name behind uber expensive computer peripherals with a novelty factor, will be making an appearance over at CES 2013 next week, where they want to show off the new Optimus Popularis at Las Vegas, Nevada. The Optimus Popularis might be rated to be a cheaper and smaller version of the extremely pricey Optimus Maximus, where the latter is a full-sized keyboard with small, modifiable displays on every key, but you can bet your bottom hard earned dollar that is still going to be expensive and burn a sizable hole in your pocket.

The Optimus Popularis is said to be highly customizable, where you are able to assign individual images and bindings to each key on the keyboard, basically allowing it to be anything that you want it to be. Now, I do foresee some memes being planned for the Optimus Popularis, but only true blue geeks would be able to “get” them. Well, Art Lebedev intends to make a splash at CES next week by making sure that the Optimus Popularis will be celebrated on a large scale, where their booth there will boast of a behemoth sized version of the keyboard, just to make a point and show off to the wandering crowds at what its technology within is capable of.

Microsoft Acquires R2 Studios (Rumor)

r2 studios Microsoft Acquires R2 Studios (Rumor)There are whispers going around that Microsoft is looking to lighten their pockets somewhat with another purchase which will play a role in their future plans for the Xbox brand. The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unnamed sources, that Microsoft has already picked up Id8 Group R2 Studios. R2 Studios was originally founded by Blake Krikorian in May a couple of years ago, and he also founded Sling Media, the company behind the Slingbox TV streaming device. Apparently, Krikorian as the rest of his tight startup team will join up with Microsoft’s Xbox unit, where this deal will also tie up a bunch of patents that are under the possession of R2 Studios, in addition to specific financial terms which remained a secret.

It must be noted that Microsoft is not the only bigwig chasing after R2 Studios’ skirt, as Google and Apple were also said to have shown interest in picking up this outfit, and cash for all three companies involved is not an issue, so it really boils down to who R2 Studios is comfortable with, as well as the future direction which they will take. Just how do you think Microsoft will leverage all of R2 Studios should this bit of news become official?

3D Paintings Exhibited In China

3d photo gallery 3D Paintings Exhibited In ChinaI am quite sure that many of us had our minds blown away visually with the rich world found in Avatar, especially while watching the movie in 3D when it was first released a few years ago. Well, many movies have since jumped aboard the 3D bandwagon, but none really made a mark and had such a resonance in the industry than James Cameron’s outing. The whole idea of 3D viewing has also caught on in art exhibitions, where you can drop by Tianjin in China and have Mona Lisa reach out to touch you. Yes sir, how about having a Renaissance masterpiece be more interactive instead?

There is a slew of famous works of art as well as new additions to the art world which have been brought to life via an exhibit of 3D paintings that are currently on parade over at a shopping mall in Tianjin, where patrons will have their fair share of laughs as well as fun photo opportunities. If you drop by the Magic Art Special Exhibition at the Hangzhou Peace International Exhibition and Conference Center, there will be additional 3D paintings there, and you are in fact encouraged to interact with the works of art.
