Amazon Coins Work On Android Devices NowEver since Amazon Coins was introduced to the masses in May last year, the virtual currency had remained more or less within circulation on the Kindle Fire tablet from Amazon. In a nutshell, if you are an American, British or German, you will be able to gain access to your Amazon Coins via the Amazon Appstore, and this is made possible courtesy of the most recent software update.

Microsoft Launches OneDrive With Updated Android App

Microsoft Launches OneDrive With Updated Android AppBack in January, we had heard how Microsoft had rebranded their SkyDrive cloud services to OneDrive. While the rebranding was announced, the update service’s launch had yet to be determined, at least until now where Microsoft has officially announced the launch of OneDrive around the world. For current SkyDrive users, the launch will probably not affect you in anyway, apart from the fact that the service has been rebranded. Existing apps are expected to continue working with the service, and while Windows 8, Windows Vista, and Mac apps will be rebranded, the same cannot be said for Windows 8.1 and Office 2013.

Now as we have mentioned before, OneDrive will be getting Dropbox-like features in the sense that OneDrive users can earn more storage if they don’t wish to pay for larger storage beyond what they have gotten. Users will be able to earn up to an additional 5GB where every friend they refer to OneDrive will net them an additional 500MB, meaning that if you manage to get 10 friends to signup for OneDrive, you would have netted yourself an additional 5GB in cloud storage. Those who own the iOS, Android, or Windows Phone app will also be able to earn an extra 3GB by enabling the camera backup feature. So if you are looking for an alternative cloud storage service, hit up the OneDrive website for the details.

Microsoft Tests Reduced Prices For Digital Xbox One Games

Xbox One owners have for long debated on Microsoft’s pricing policy on digital games, with one user even saying that the community was being “punished” for downloading games digitally. Prices were found to be higher as compared to their physical counterparts and this lead to a stream of criticism. Last month Microsoft’s Larry Hryb a.k.a Major Nelson confirmed that competitive pricing for digital games in “on the agenda,” and now we’re starting to see some changes. The company is dipping its toe in the water by conducting several tests, the first of which starts tomorrow and reduces price for digital download of Ryse: Son of Rome.

European Communication Network Could Keep Data Away From The U.S.

European Communication Network Could Keep Data Away From The U.S.

Last year word of the U.S. National Security Agency’s clandestine electronic spying programs broke when former CIA technical analyst Edward Snowden leaked a barrage of highly classified documents. There has been a steady stream of leaks from Snowden since then, alleging that the NSA also spies on citizens of foreign countries, even those of its allies. The revelations, or allegations depending the story you choose to believe, haven’t exactly been welcomed by allies, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel being one of the most outspoken figures against U.S. electronic spying. Even her personal cell phone was alleged monitored by U.S. spies, so you can imagine where she’s coming from. The Chancellor says she’s going to talk to Francois Hollande, the President of France, about building a dedicated communications network that only services Europe so as to stop data from passing through the U.S.

Mirror Android To TV Using Chromecast Soon

Google’s popular $35 HDMI dongle Chromecast has made quite a name for itself. Initially its SDK was only available to a select few partners, though recently Google announced that Chromecast SDK was now being opened up for anyone and everyone, allowing independent developers to create apps for the dongle. We’ve seen quite a few good apps come up since then, particularly AllCast, which regained its feature of allowing mirroring of local content. AllCast’s developer, Koushik Dutta, is now working on something that will enable users to mirror Android to TV using Chromecast.

    Foxconn To Encourage Employee Startups

Foxconn To Encourage Employee StartupsWhenever people think of Foxconn, chances are they associate the company with Apple as well as overworked and underpaid employees, but perhaps that is an image that Foxconn’s boss, Terry Guo, would like to shed in the future. Founded nearly 40 years ago, Guo is hoping to change Foxconn’s image to one that supports entrepreneurship where he will encourage employees to come up with ideas to create startups in which if good enough, Foxconn will support. The goal is to create five spin-off companies on an annual basis, of which three out of these five will eventually become separate companies which Foxconn will support with orders.

According to Guo (via Want China Times), “I want Hon Hai employees to have a chance to be bosses.” Guo has also revealed that he will be reducing his influence in the company greatly and will be spending more time on health care and philanthropic endeavors. Apart from looking to help Foxconn employees realize their dream, the company will also be launching a new project called Dreams of Being Rich Come True. This initiative will be similar to what Foxconn will offer its employees, except that it will target young people and encourage them to startup their own business where the company pledges to offer young people help for free in terms of designing and developing molds.

Philips’ Smart Lighting Wants To Change The Way We Shop

Philips Smart Lighting Wants To Change The Way We ShopEver wanted to make a certain dish but having a hard time locating the ingredients in the supermarket? Well Philips is hoping to save you time trying to hunt down ingredients by using their connected retail lighting system. Now it is no secret that Philips has been dabbling in smart lights. In the past the company has released light bulbs that can be controlled by an app running our smartphone, and now the company is hoping to find further use for such lighting systems to help out in grocery stores.

Basically Philips will rely on the lights placed in the store as a grid, and from there they will be able to pinpoint your location and help guide you through the store to help you find the ingredients that you need to make your particular dish, as illustrated in the diagram above. In a way Philips’ system reminds us of iBeacon which uses Bluetooth to detect when a shopper is nearby, thus activating notifications on the shoppers phone. In this case Philips’ system will also be able to notify shoppers of discounts on a particular item while they are within the vicinity of said item. It is a pretty awesome idea although this will probably require a fair amount of investment on the grocery store’s part, but what do you guys think? Could this be the new way we go about grocery shopping?

    Nike’s Self-Lacing Shoes Will Arrive In 2015

Nikes Self Lacing Shoes Will Arrive In 2015For those who watched Back To The Future II, you might remember the iconic Nike sneakers which had the uncanny ability to lace itself up. Now if you recall, Nike did unveil the actual shoes back in 2011 minus the self-lacing action, and the good news is that if you were looking forward to self-lacing shoes, perhaps 2015 might be the year to look forward to. Making an appearance at New Orleans over the weekend, Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield was asked if the technology of self-lacing shoes would be making an appearance in the next year.

The good news for Back To The Future fans is that the answer Hatfield gave was a resounding yes. “Are we gonna see power laces in 2015? To that, I say YES!” Just like the previous release, we can only imagine that these sneakers will most likely be of the limited edition nature and will probably be pretty costly if you want to get your hands on them. After all the original Nike Air MAGs are still being auctioned off for thousands of dollars. We’re not sure how Nike will implement the self-lacing technology, but it will definitely be pretty interesting. So, who’s looking forward to self-lacing shoes from Back To The Future II come 2015?
