Marvel unveils new armor for Iron Man 3

Man meets machine at the Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego last week. Iron Man fanatics will be thrilled to know that Tony Stark’s new signature armor for the upcoming movie Iron Man 3 has just been unveiled. And judging from the photo above, it seems that the new armor is more golden than red. Iron Man 3 will be hitting theaters starting May 3 next year. And of course, it wouldn’t be that exciting if Robert Downey, Jr. will not be the one to play the role of Tony Starks, a.k.a. billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist. Unfortunately, Marvel was too careful not to reveal too much about the new armor’s cool features. So, let’s watch and drool for now as we wait for more details. What are your thoughts about Iron Man’s newest mean machine?

Google CEO Larry Page now recovering, ailment remains a mystery

It seems that Google Co-Founder and CEO Larry Page has already recovered from the yet-to-be unveiled illness that affected his voice. This was confirmed by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt on Thursday last week. Speaking to reporters at Allen & Co.’s conference in Sun Valley, Schmidt said that Page is doing much better saying, “He seems fine.” The 39-year old Larry Page reportedly held a meeting  at Google’s headquarters on Monday last week.

Concern over the Google Co-Founder’s health started last month, when the company announced that Page lost his voice and will not be able to make it to the Google I/O developer conference. However, Google declined to divulge further details about Larry Page’s health, prompting experts to comment that the Mountain View-based tech giant should be more transparent about Larry’s current medical condition, citing how Apple privately handled Steve Jobs’ health as an example and a lesson that we should all learn from.

LG to roll out 60″ flexible OLEDs by 2017

Sometime last month, it was rumored that LG was conducting research of producing a 60” flexible OLED display. At the moment the largest flexible OLED display measures 7.4”, so as you can expect, 60” is a huge jump. As it turns out those rumors are true and this task was actually set about by the Korean government, which we expect is making LG feel very good about themselves since they were picked over their rival, Samsung who has been researching and working on flexible OLEDs for quite a while now. Assuming all goes to plan, LG expects to have these 60” flexible OLEDs ready by 2017, which can be used for commercial purposes such as displaying information in windows at bus stations, stores and other public places. However the underlying goal here is to generate exports and creating jobs by promoting next-gen technology as part of the country’s Future Flagship Program.

Resident Evil-themed restaurant opens in Japan

Video game publisher Capcom announced last month that it will be installing a Resident Evil restaurant in  Shibuya, Tokyo this month of July. As mentioned before, the restaurant is expected to open today, July 13, at eleven in the morning. Well, the Resident Evil-themed restaurant, now called Biohazard Cafe and Grill, is now officially open for the public. The restaurant features Resident Evil-themed food, props, and lots of dancing girls, as noted by Kotaku.

But probably what’s so interesting about the Biohazard Cafe and Grill is that it has a life-size monument of Tyrant designed by the Toei Company. Using 3D projection mapping technology, the Tyrant statue will come to life to freak you out. The staff, also known as S.T.A.R.S ANGELIQUE, will then shoot at the the seemingly-live Tyrant  figure to simulate a real Resident Evil experience. However, the restaurant will be open for only a year since it’s a limited-time only establishment. So, if you’re heading to Tokyo this weekend, the Biohazard Cafe and Grill is definitely one place to visit.

Antagonist luxury wooden yacht is too James Bond-ish

The photo that you are seeing above isn’t taken from a sci-fi movie set or a James Bond movie. It’s actually a real yacht designed by the luxury yacht producer Art of Kinetik. The Serbian manufacturer of luxury wooden pleasure yachts has recently unveiled Antagonist, a 37 foot open weekend cruiser that is powered by two diesel-fueled Yanmar engines, boasting speeds up to 33 knots. Antagonist features a large open cockpit that provides space for up to 8 people.

The wooden yacht also has a spacious sunbathing area and a built-in swimming platform. Inside the Antagonist, you will find a large air-conditioned interior with storage space, bathroom, cushioned seating and wooden work bench. The interior is also fitted with designer fabrics and mood lighting. Pricing has yet to be announced, although we expect it to be equally luxurious as well. Art of Kinetik is planning to launch the Antagonist this summer.

Google improves Street View in California, brings panoramic views to five national parks

Google Street View was first launched on May 2007 in several cities in the U.S., and it has been deployed to other countries since then. And while questions about its security and privacy lingers, Google continues to improve its highly popular Google Maps product. Google has just announced that it has improved its Street View feature in the state of California by adding 360-degree panoramic imagery to five of California’s national parks – Yosemite, Redwood, Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Death Valley, and Joshua Tree.

Now, users can stare at the giant redwood trees in the Redwood National Park, visit the historic Inspiration Point at the Yosemite National Park, see the huge trees at the Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, check out the Death Valley National Park, or view the spectacular scenes in the Joshua Tree National Park – all from Google Maps. “People around the world can now appreciate the beauty and timelessness of the wilderness through Street View. We’ve recently added 360-degree panoramic imagery for five of California’s national parks. You can now take a virtual road trip practically the entire stretch of California from north to south,” Google said.

Stolen Austin Healey sports car spotted on eBay after 42 years

In 1970, a British 1967 Austin Healey 3000 sports car owned by a man named Bob Russell was stolen from his apartment in Philadelphia. Russell thought that he’d never find his beloved car again. Then 42 years later, after years of surfing the Internet, the now-retired sales manager surprisingly found his lost car in an online auction on eBay. Russell immediately called the dealer and said, “I hate to sound indelicate, but you’re selling a stolen car.”

Thankfully, he still kept the original key and car title with him, as well as signed affidavits from friends and the original owner. With the help of a few detectives in Philadelphia, Russel obtained a copy of the stolen car report he filed way back in 1970 and the car was seized from the dealer. On June 16, Russell and his wife went to L.A. to be reunited with their long lost old car. With his car now safe in his garage, Russell plans to restore the Austin Healey to its former glory. “It still runs, but the brakes don’t work well,” he said. “We’re going to put it back the way it was.”

Virgin Galactic’s LauncherOne Aims To Make Satellite Launch Affordable [Video]

Richard Brandson has unveiled Virgin Galactic’s latest product called LauncherOne. It is a satellite launch platform that has been designed to be cheaper and more efficient than traditional rocket-based launchers. To achieve its goals, LauncherOne supports relatively small 500lbs satellites, and instead of launching them vertically from the ground, Virgin Galatic uses a special plane to bring the launcher as high as possible before firing the final rocket into orbit.

Traditional rockets are typically launched from near the equator. It’s great to get the payload in space, but the satellite may have to move with its own fuel from there to whichever final orbit it needs to be. To do that, it needs to carry more fuel and therefore be heavier and more expensive to build/launch. Virgin says that LauncherOne can be launched from anywhere, and can match the final orbit in a more efficient way.

Testing is still going on, but Virgin Galactic hopes that by the time things are ready for business, LauncherOne will be so “cheap” that even Universities can have their own satellites launched into space. Today, only the richest countries and companies can afford to do so. Video introduction in the full post. (more…)
