Chromecast SDK Available

Chromecast SDK AvailableGoogle has announced that the Google Cast Software SDK (Software Development Kit) is available for all developers who want to add Chromecast support in their apps and (web) services. The first apps available on Chromecast came from large companies that had the engineering resources to work on a pre-release API, and that were big enough for Google to justify spending the support effort. Among them were Netflix, Hulu,Pandora, and of course Google’s own YouTube and Google Play – just to name a few. (more…)

Bill Gates To Remain Involved In Product Development At Microsoft

Bill Gates To Remain Involved In Product Development At Microsoft

Microsoft is yet to announce its new CEO, and now its believed that the company won’t just announce Ballmer’s successor. Recent rumors suggest that Ballmer may give up his seat on the board, and that the board is considering replacing chairman Bill Gates, who also happens to be Microsoft’s co-founder and first CEO. While the company hasn’t confirmed anything as yet, Bloomberg reports that even if he’s replaced as chairman, Gates will remain involved in product development at Redmond, but will reduce focus on administration matters.

Sprint T-Mobile Merger To Be Discussed With FCC

Sprint T Mobile Merger To Be Discussed With FCC

Ever since it was first rumored that Sprint is interested in buying T-Mobile, there has been a lot of speculation about the response of regulatory authorities over the Sprint T-Mobile merger. This isn’t the first time that Magenta has attracted a buyer, back in 2011 it agreed to sell itself to AT&T for $39 billion, but the deal was blocked by regulators. Analysts are of the view that similar issues might plague a similar deal this time around as well, which is presumably why Sprint higher-ups are meeting with regulators to see where they lean prior to making an official buyout bid for T-Mobile U.S.

Keep Up With CyberNet Using Firefox’s Microsummaries

This article was written on September 15, 2006 by CyberNet.

CyberNet Logo A few days ago “d_leaper” commented asking why we haven’t created Microsummaries for Firefox yet. I hadn’t really thought about making a Microsummary before so I started to look into it.

If you’re not familiar with Microsummaries then you shouldn’t feel bad. It is a new feature in the upcoming Firefox 2 that will allow people to stay updated with what’s going on in a particular site. Microsummaries are often referred to as “Live Titles” because that is exactly what they are.

When you create a bookmark for a site that has a Microsummary available you will see a drop-down menu of choices that you can choose for the title of the bookmark. The first (default) choice will be the typical title of the page while the other choices that are offered will be the “Live Titles,” assuming they are available. They will then be periodically updated as the content changes.

With that in mind I created three different types of Microsummaries depending on what type of page you are viewing on CyberNet:

    1. When you bookmark our homepage the Microsummary option will show you the title of the most recent article that is available:
      CyberNet Microsummary
    2. When you bookmark an article’s page, for example this one, the Microsummary will show you how many comments the article has received followed by the article’s title. That way you can bookmark multiple articles and still be able to distinguish them from each other.
      CyberNet Microsummary
    3. The last one is for our registered users (you must be logged in for this to work). It utilizes the Unread Comments feature that we implemented a few weeks ago.

When you bookmark the Management page the Microsummary will either be title of the last article that was commented on or it will display “No Unread Comments” if you are up-to-date on your comment reading. 🙂

Here is what it looks like with some unread comments:
      CyberNet Microsummary

Here is what it looks like without any unread comments:
      CyberNet Microsummary

I hope some of you will find those Microsummaries to be useful. All of the screenshots I took were of me creating the bookmark so that it is easy for you to see how to “activate” the Live Title. Remember, these will dynamically change based on the content that is within the page.

Let us know if you have any comments or recommendations.

Target Hack Possibly Started With Vendor Credential Theft

Target Hack Possibly Started With Vendor Credential Theft

Much has already been said and written about the Target hack which occurred over the holiday season. The retailer itself had confirmed that it had been the victim of a security breach, and soon after, another retailer confirmed the same. Security researchers are of the view that multiple U.S. retailers were attacked during the same period, using one form or the other of the same malware that a Russian teenager is believed to have written. Federal Authorities including the U.S. Secret Service are investigating, and Target reveals that the wheels might have been put in motion when credentials from one of its vendors were stolen.

    Robo-Tongue Knows Its Beers

Robo Tongue Knows Its BeersRobots do seem to be in the spotlight lately, and in this case, scientists from Spain have come up with a robotic “tongue” that is able to identify the difference between various types of beer. This particular robotic tongue is already nearly 82 percent accurate whenever it takes a swig of various brews. Drawing inspiration from nature as usual, the scientists have decided to make this robotic tongue feature 21 ion-selective electrodes to base it on the same way which we taste. This would function as a sensor array, where each of the 21 ion-selective electrodes would be able to play a role in determining the different levels of particular elements that are present in each beer.

Foursquare Now Lets You Order Food Within The App

Foursquare Now Lets You Order Food Within The App

Foursquare might be one of the most widely used services around the world that people use to find great places to dine at, but it has never been a service that has allowed users to place orders for delivery, until today.

Foursquare has just announced that GrubHub Seamless has now been integrated, therefore users can now find over 20,000 restaurants in hundreds of cities across the country, and they can also place orders for delivery from local restaurants without actually ever having to leave the app.

This integration is crucial for Foursquare as it looks to grow from a service that people merely use to check-in to a place they’re visiting, be it a restaurant or a monument, and just leave it at that. Over the past few months the company has also been building up its discovery and recommendation offerings.

Taking the next step forward, it now lets users place orders from within the app, provided when users are browsing local establishments, they come across one with either the GrubHub or Seamless icon, all that’s left to be done then is to just tap on “order delivery.” Starting today the feature goes live on Foursquare.com, Android and iOS, no word if and when the Windows Phone 8 app will receive it.

Microsoft CEO Candidate Hans Vestberg Kicks Rumors To The Curb

    microsoft_logo

Ever since Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced last year that he is going to step down within 12 months, there has been a lot of speculation about who is going to get the top job at Redmond. Many names have been floated of both internal and external candidates, one of the first to declare himself out of the running was Ford CEO Alan Mulally, who reiterated his commitment to the auto manufacturer. Another Microsoft CEO candidate has taken the same path, kicking all rumors to the curb, its Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg who confirms that he’s not planning to leave Ericsson for Microsoft.
