Potential Suicide Victim Reunited With Rescuer Via Twitter Campaign

findmikeHow does it feel like to play the role of a hero? Well, Neil Laybourn certainly stepped into the shoes of a hero when he stopped Jonny Benjamin, 26, from plunging to his death on Waterloo Bridge in January six years ago. The latter was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder when Neil Laybourn actually managed to stop Jonny from taking the final leap. Mr. Benjamin decided that one good turn deserves another, which is why he kicked off a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #findmike so that he can trace down the person who saved his life.

Sky Is Sole UK Provider For Game Of Thrones Until 2020

sky-hbo-2020Whenever someone happens to be a sole provider or owns exclusive rights to something, you know for sure that such a company or party would have rather extensive clout in the marketplace, and would more often than not be rolling in plenty of money. I guess you can more or less say that Sky has netted a coup after expanding their partnership with HBO. This means that shows such as ‘Game of Thrones’ alongside other HBO shows will be offered by Sky in the UK – and Sky alone, at least until the year 2020 rolls around.

Samsung Named Most Trusted Brand In India

samsung_logo_720wWhat does it mean to “trust” a brand? Does it mean that we trust that the company will always work in the best interest of its customers, shareholders, and stakeholders? Does it mean that products/services are reliable? Well depending on what your definition of trust is, it seems that over in India, Samsung has managed to be named as the country’s most trusted brand, beating companies such as Sony and local company Tata in the process. Prior to this, in 2013 Samsung came in second place, Sony in third, and Tata in fifth, at least according to the Brand Trust Award 2014.

However it looks like this year all companies have moved up in ranks, with Samsung taking first, Sony second, and Tata third, although based on this we guess Tata had the biggest improvement. It really does not come as a surprise to see Samsung doing so well. In terms of Android smartphones, Samsung is currently leading the pack and are dominating the rest of the manufacturers out there, so much so that Samsung themselves are starting to think that their reliance on Google might be too great, leading them to develop an alternative in the form of Tizen. Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy S5 this year, one of the more highly-anticipated smartphones of the year.

Edward Snowden Gets Second Nobel Peace Prize Nomination

    prism-leak-source-edward-snowden

One can bet that there are a lot of people in Washington scoffing at this report right now. Edward Snowden is now known around the world as the former CIA technical analyst who escaped to Hong Kong prior to leaking a barrage of top secret documents implicating the U.S. National Security Agency in widespread electronic spying programs. The leaks continue to this day, only recently documents provided by Snowden revealed that the NSA has been siphoning off personal data through popular mobile applications in collaboration with UK’s GCHQ. Some might justify Snowden’s actions, even though the U.S. has felony charges waiting for him back home. Norwegian lawmakers certainly seem so, as Edward Snowden has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize once again.

    Yahoo Could Have Purchased Tomfoolery

yahoo-building-entrance-sunnyvaleWhile Yahoo’s share price has not exactly performed according to the expectations of some even with Ms. Mayer at the helm, this does not mean that the company is in trouble so deep that it cannot dig itself out, and neither are they so short on money, they cannot purchase other companies. Apparently, Yahoo has reportedly purchased the company known as Tomfoolery, where upon confirmation of this acquisition by the Internet search giant, Tomfoolery is said to shut down its current business – and that would include its very own social networking app known as Anchor. It however, remains unclear whether Tomfoolery’s core concepts will return as a consumer product, or will it be integrated into Yahoo’s own products? Only time will be able to tell.

T-Mobile Sprint Merger Discussed With U.S. Department Of Justice

    sprint_sign

Ever since it was first rumored that Sprint is looking to acquire T-Mobile, there has been much talk about the response from U.S. regulators. Back in 2011, AT&T agreed to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion, but the deal was struck down by regulators. The fears have emerged once again, this time for Sprint, which has apparently lined up as much as $31 billion for financing the deal if T-Mobile is to agree to a takeover. The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint and Softbank CEOs met with the Department of Justice to talk up the T-Mobile Sprint merger, but its a possibility that antitrust authorities might strike down their plans as well.
