Intel Internet TV Project Reportedly Attracts Interest From Liberty Global

Intel Internet TV Project Reportedly Attracts Interest From Liberty Global

In February earlier this year, Intel confirmed that it has set up a new division called Intel Media which is working on its internet TV project. It was back in December 2012 when the first rumors about Intel playing with the idea of becoming an internet TV provider started making the rounds. Though recent rumors suggest that Intel is now willing to give up the project, Verizon has reportedly been in talks with the chip maker to takeover Intel Media. If the latest from Bloomberg is to be believed, Big Red may face some competition from European cable operator Liberty Global.

Citing three people “with knowledge of the situation,” the report claims that talks between Intel and Liberty Global are at an early stage right now and there is a possibility that they might fall through. While spokespersons for both Intel and Liberty Global have declined to comment on the report, it is said that the latter plans on using Intel’s internet TV system outside the U.S. Verizon was said to be in advanced negotiations with Intel, but the report doesn’t say if Verizon is still interested in the division or if it has decided not to pursue Intel Media any further. The people cited in the report have not disclosed the price being discussed for Intel’s internet TV project.

Australia Post Stamps Feature A Video Message

The advent of email more or less spelled the end of traditional snail mail (and postmen who hate being chased down by dogs would be happy with that news, although it would also mean a threat to their jobs), but for postal services and couriers, sending packages from one place to another would still form a huge part of their revenue. When it comes to the holiday season such as Christmas, it would also translate to big business as parcels are being sent in the mail, with Australia Post offering gift-givers the ability to attach a video message to their parcels for that added touch.

Whenever you pack a gift for friends and family, as the sender, you can stick the Video Stamp that comes in the form of a QR code. When attached to the parcel, the recipient who scans the QR code with a special smartphone app will then be able to check out your pre-recorded personalized video message of up to 15 seconds in length. The video message will be there available for up to 90 days after the time of recording, and should the recipient not be that future forward, they can always log into a web page to check it out. This particular video message can also be shared via Facebook, Twitter and Google+, or even to send it out in an email.

Lady Gaga To Perform From Space

Lady Gaga To Perform From SpaceLady Gaga is definitely a trailblazer in all forms of the word, and one of the prime and most recent examples which we have seen so far would be the Volantis flying dress that she wore. This time around, it seems that Lady Gaga also has her sights set on another (literally) out of this world experience – by singing right from space itself. How is this going to be made possible? Well, Lady Gaga has already booked a trip aboard Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo in the year 2015, where from there, she will ride into suborbital space as well as sing a song as part of a festival that celebrates Spaceport America in New Mexico.

Singing in space is not going to be that easy despite astronaut Chris Hadfield making it look extremely easy. Gaga is said to undergo at least a month of serious vocal training in order to adjust for the special atmosphere that can only be found aboard the spacecraft. Not only that, it will also be assumed that she will require additional training in order to blast off right out of our atmosphere. Isn’t it cool to be part of her entourage then, as they too, will accompany her on her travels? I would suppose if there was a way for her to go to Mars and perform, she would do that, too.

Lionel Messi Captains Galaxy 11 In Football Match For Our Survival

Lionel Messi Captains Galaxy 11 In Football Match For Our Survival

Samsung’s new marketing initiative is underway, and the company has tapped two of the most popular brands that it could bring together: extraterrestrial beings and Lionel Messi. For those who don’t know him, Messi is one of the biggest stars of the Argentine football team as well as FC Barcelona. He’s been selected to captain the “Galaxy 11″ in a final football match for the survival of the earth, which is under threat from aliens.

A tweet from an account related to the campaign claims that aliens have “threatened” earth and that Messi has been selected as the Galaxy 11 captain to defend us. Exactly how he’ll go about it remains to be seen, but we can expect a lot of Samsung devices to help him out in the process. The website for the campaign is up and running, though it is yet to list the names of the remaining players that make up the Galaxy 11. Franz Beckenbauer, German football coach, is also a part of this campaign. It will become clear what direction Samsung takes with this in the days to come, as the campaign progresses. For now, find solace in the fact that one of the best footballers in the world is on our side.

BlackBerry Gives Interim CEO John Chen $88 Million Reasons To Stay

BlackBerry Gives Interim CEO John Chen $88 Million Reasons To Stay

Former Sybase CEO John S. Chen has taken up what is arguably one of the toughest jobs out there, leading BlackBerry. After receiving a $1 billion investment, the company’s board announced that CEO Thorsten Heins is leaving, and in his place John Chen is coming as interim CEO. He will hold on to this position until the company finds a permanent CEO, but it hasn’t given a timeframe for the search. Perhaps Chen will emerge as a strong contender, seeing as how the company has given him an incentive worth $88 million to stay onboard.

According to documents filed with the SEC, Chen will receive a base salary of $1 million per year, along with an annual performance bonus of up to $2 million. Apart from pay, he has been awarded 13 million shares of restricted BlackBerry stock which vests in five years. As of now, the shares are worth $85 million and will be worth significantly more if Chen is able to turn the company around and bring its stock price up. A quarter of the shares will vest in three years, another quarter in four years whereas the remaining 50 percent will become payable after five years. If things go south in the meantime and Chen is terminated, he will receive a $6 million payout. That’s a big compensation package, one that’s geared to keep Chen onboard for the long run. Up till now Chen has been displaying confidence in BlackBerry, he believes that the company has enough ingredients to become a sustainable and profitable business once again.

2014 Winter Olympics Reportedly Can’t Be Instagrammed By Journalists

2014 Winter Olympics Reportedly Cant Be Instagrammed By Journalists

Vasily Konov, editor of the state run R-Sport news agency reportedly told journalists at a seminar last week that they are not allowed to use a phone, pocket camera or tablet to take photos or videos at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. That means that journalists present at the games will not be able to live Tweet, Vine, Instagram as the action happens. Local Russian media reports that anyone found in violation of this rule will be stripped of their credentials and will lose their accreditation on the spot.

Journalists that have professional equipment and special badges will be allowed to shoot and record as much as they want. The rule doesn’t apply to spectators, they can use any device they want to capture the action. However, supporters will reportedly not be allowed to bring reflex cameras and nonprofessional equipment to the games. The International Olympic Committee is yet to issue an official comment on these rumors. To put things in perspective, look at the 2012 London Olympics, where no such restrictions were placed on journalists, they had the freedom to Instagram to their heart’s content. While a confirmation is yet to be issued, journalists covering the 2014 Winter Olympics in February definitely aren’t going to be stoked.

Tactile Dialogues E-Textile Pillow Brings Communication To A Whole New Level

We humans know that no man (or woman, if you want to be politically correct) is an island, which is why communication with one another is so important. Hence, here we are with the Tactile Dialogues that happens to be a specially designed e-textile pillow that has been constructed with the inclusion of touch sensors and vibrating motors. This particular pillow is used to generate a positive interaction between a caregiver as well as an individual who happens to be suffering from severe dementia. It is somewhat akin to Vibe-ing, where Tactile Dialogues happens to rely on the very same technologies which has taken on an extremely different format.

You wear Tactile Dialogues on the body, where it functions as a medium to generate interaction and conversation. It does offer a glimpse into the future as to how wearable technology would look like and contribute to mankind’s development in communications. Imagine tactile knits and wovens, alongside haptic feedback mechanisms that function in a pleasurable manner to touch as well as wear. Tactile Dialogues happen to be a collaboration between Eindhoven University of Technology (Martijn ten Bhömer), De Wever Borre Akkersdijk, Optima Textiles BV and Metatronics. How would you like your wearable tech served in the future?

Lady Gaga Appears In Flying Dress

Lady Gaga Appears In Flying DressWhen it comes to fashion and dressing sense, Lady Gaga is someone who never fails to surprise. She has shown up in a bacon inspired dress before, and this time around for her new album’s debut, her entrance was no less shocking. It can be described as an astronaut dress that seems to be accompanied by half a dozen helicopters, making her look like some sort of weird AR Drone setup that has been blown up to carry a human. Lady Gaga herself has dubbed this unique fashion experiment as “Volantis”, where she claims that the suit was a symbol of herself, enabling her to be the voice for the youth of the world, or something according to that line.

Lady Gaga shared, “Volantis is essentially a vehicle. I wanted to make today about something even more important to me. And what that something is the youth of the world. Benjamin and Nancy are here with me today. Their minds are just so boundless. They are so inspiring. Although she is a vehicle, she is essentially a metaphor for me. I will be a vehicle today for their voices…Youth all over the world.”

Basically, the Volantis costume does work, but it does not seem to be too power efficient in the first place for everyone to own one, and imagine the huge amount of space required to cater for a room or hall full of Volantis costumes!
