Superman Fan Has 19 Surgeries To Look Like The Man Of Steel Himself

Superman Fan Has 19 Surgeries To Look Like The Man Of Steel Himself

With the recent release of Man of Steel as well as all of the cool RC Supermen flying through the air, we think it’s safe to say most people like Superman. Sure – he’s pretty much an alien who just so happens to look like a human being who has super powers thanks to our solar system’s yellow sun, but there’s just something about him many people enjoy. As big of a fan as you think you are, you’re no where near as big of a fan as 35-year-old Herbert Chaves as he has gone through 19 plastic surgeries in order to make himself look like the Man of Steel himself. Mars One Receives Over 200k Applications For Mars Colonization Project

We know how many people are looking forward to living life off on Mars, especially when you consider just how bad things have been getting on Earth lately with all of the changes in temperature as well as the gallons of radioactive fluid that’s being dumped into our ocean every day. People want off of this planet, which is why we weren’t so surprised to hear over 100,000 people signed up for the Mars One project last month. It turns out that total doubled as over 200,000 applications were received by the Netherlands-based private spaceflight project Mars One, and for the next several months, they’ll be narrowing down the applicants. Scientists Could Eventually Figure Out How To Erase Memories Selectively

Scientists Could Eventually Figure Out How To Erase Memories SelectivelyIt goes without saying that life is not plain sailing for everyone, even if you are the richest person on earth. Money can buy nearly everything if you have enough of it, but happiness and joy, that is a different story altogether. Bad memories do serve a purpose, it helps us remain grounded, but what happens when you have the opportunity to erase those bad memories? Apparently, scientists over at the Scripps Research Institute have somewhat performed something similar in mice with a degree of success. As part of the experiment, researchers started to get a bunch of laboratory mice addicted to meth and were trained to associate their addiction with select sensory rewards.

In an effort to block those memories and help the mice forget about their meth addiction, scientists blocked the action of the protein known as actin, which if let through, will create a chain of molecules during memory formation. This resulted in the mice forgetting to associate certain things with addiction memories, and in early experiments, the mice were no longer stimulated by things that reminded of meth, with the assumption that their other memories remained unaffected. How effective would this be in humans remains to be seen as I am quite sure that plenty of work still needs to be done, and if only there was a real world Professor X to help us out.

Diablo 3’s Storm Of Light Novel Coming Your Way

Diablo 3’s Storm Of Light Novel Coming Your WayIf you are one of those who tend to follow the Diablo game beyond the dungeon crawling gameplay on your computer or console, and by that I mean reading up additional canon and books on it, then you would be pleased to hear that there is an upcoming novel in the Diablo series which shall be known as Storm of Light. Storm of Light is written by Nate Kenyon, who also happens to be the author of The Order, and it will act as a bridge between the events of Diablo III and the story that is set to unfold in Reaper of Souls, the first expansion of the series.

This will be an all new novel that boast Jacob and Shanar from the Sword of Justice comic series, and if you are interested for an alternative reading material, then you can place a pre-order for it over at Simon and Schuster. In a nutshell, Storm of Light has the following synopsis.

The High Heavens are healing after the fall of the Prime Evil. The Angiris Council has recovered the Black Soulstone and now stands vigil over the cursed artifact deep within the glimmering Silver City. Amid these momentous events, Tyrael struggles with his position as the new Aspect of Wisdom, feeling out of place as a mortal among his angelic brethren and doubting his ability to fully embody his role. As he searches within himself and the Heavens for reassurance, he senses the Black Soulstone’s grim influence on his home. Where harmony of light and sound once reigned, a mounting discord is threatening to shroud the realm in darkness. Imperius and the other archangels vehemently oppose moving or destroying the crystal, leading Tyrael to put Heaven’s fate in the hands of humankind….

Yahoo Monthly Active Users Achieve 20% Increase, Says Yahoo CEO

Yahoo Monthly Active Users Achieve 20% Increase, Says Yahoo CEOYahoo, fresh from the unveiling of a spanking new logo recently, has more good news to bring to the masses. Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer did make an announcement at TechCrunch Disrupt that the company she is currently helming have seen its monthly active users increase by 20% to 800 million worldwide, and that would also take into consideration the 350 million monthly active users who are logging in from their mobile devices. According to Mayer, these figures have increased ever since she steadied the ship as CEO in July last year, and to sweeten the report, the statistics do not take into consideration Tumblr, the high traffic site which Yahoo forked out $1 billion for earlier this year.

Mayer did send out an optimistic note of caution, however, that it will take Yahoo approximately 3 or more years to arrive at their intended destination. Between now and then, their focus would be on a quartet of pillars – people, products, traffic, and revenue. This strategy was explained in a manner to kick off a chain reaction that will hopefully, attract great people to build great products, and eventually users and revenue will flow in as part of the natural order. Are you happy to see Yahoo growing as a company?

AT&T Accused Of Product Placement In 9/11 Tribute

AT&T Accused Of Product Placement In 9/11 Tribute

The U.S. is commemorating the 12th anniversary of the attacks that took place on September 11th, 2001. Across the country people are remembering that fateful day and paying tribute in their own way. Conversations are also taking place on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, a number of hashtags related to 9/11 are already trending on the latter. Its not unusual for companies to pay tribute through their social media channels, but AT&T’s has been accused of product placement in its tribute, which was posted on both its official Facebook page and Twitter account.

The carrier posted a picture of a smartphone through which the 9/11 memorial lights are being recorded, “Never Forget,” was the caption of this post. AT&T has taken down the post now and issued a formal apology, but not before it accumulated a lot of criticism. “Not an occasion for product placement, AT&T,” said one Tweet while comments on Facebook called the post “very tasteless.” AT&T says that it apologizes to anyone who felt that the post was in poor taste, adding that “the image was solely meant to pay respect to those affected by the 9/11 tragedy.” What do you think, is AT&T’s tribute really in bad taste or did it unintentionally make a blunder? [Image via BGR]

Thin Interest In BlackBerry Buyout Rumored Yet Again

Thin Interest In BlackBerry Buyout Rumored Yet Again

There has been non-stop speculation about BlackBerry’s future. The company announced in August that it had formed a Special Committee to probe strategic alternatives. The alternatives include alliances, partnerships and an outright sale. It has been rumored time and again that there is no major interest in the company and that its unlikely for it to be wholly acquired. Some believe that it might even be broken up and sold off in parts. It was reported recently that Fairfax Financial Holdings, which owns a 10 percent stake in BlackBerry, had assembled “billions in backing” from Canadian pension funds. A new report by The Globe and Mail suggests that none of the major pension plans in Canada are prepared as yet to join a takeover consortium.

Fairfax is said to have courted various pension plans, technology companies and private equity firms, but apparently they haven’t shown much interest. Fairfax is said to be still debating whether or not it wants to take part in BlackBerry’s buyout or if it just wants to dump its entire stake in the company. Sources cited in the report claim that Fairfax’s preference is to find another tech company to acquire BlackBerry. Fairfax has been an investor in the company for a long time, only last year it doubled its investment.

Virgin Galactic Reveals Footage Of Flight

We recently reported on Virgin Galactic’s success when it comes to smashing the sound barrier in a test flight, and for those who are deeply interested in the work of Virgin Galactic, here is some released footage from a camera that was located on the spaceship’s tail. The view is not as flattering as one might have expected to check out as they hang around the craft’s windows, but it does offer a glimpse into an experience that majority of us are unable to afford at our whim and fancy.

This particular spaceship is better known officially as the SpaceShipTwo, or SS2 for short, and happens to be Virgin Galactic’s supersonic spacecraft that was specially constructed for a potentially lucrative suborbital tourism sector. In its test flight recently, the SS2 managed to hit an altitude of 46,000 feet before it was released, while pilots Mark Stucky and Clint Nichols followed up that move by igniting the rocket. For a good 20 seconds, the rocket managed to send the SS2 to 69,000 feet and achieved a maximum speed of Mach 1.43. To get a gander on the difference between the SS2’s speed and altitude compared to standard plane travel, the average commercial jet would fly at around 30,000 feet with an average speed of 550 miles per hour, which would be at Mach 0.84 (subsonic speeds).

Top Investors Reportedly Want A Turnaround Expert As New Microsoft CEO

Top Investors Reportedly Want A Turnaround Expert As New Microsoft CEO

A few weeks back it was announced that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is going to retire within 12 months. The company’s board is currently exploring various external and internal candidates. There were rumors circulating last week about Stephen Elop, who held the top spot at Nokia, being tapped for the job. However, a recent report claims that he probably won’t be Microsoft’s new CEO. Reuters reports today that at least three of the top 20 Microsoft investors want the company to hire a “turnaround expert” as its new CEO. They’re apparently urging Microsoft to put Ford co-CEO Alan Mulally and Computer Sciences Crop CEO Mike Lawrie on the shortlist.

The board’s committee is trimming down a list of 40 possible candidates, it is being said. Names of the people on that list haven’t leaked out as yet. It is not known right now if Microsoft is considering Mulally or Lawrie, or has even reached out to them. Mulally is knowing for turning around Ford during its tough times, however as per the company’s succession plan, he is expected to hold on to the reins until at least 2014. Lawrie is currently executing a multiyear turnaround plan at Computer Sciences, he has previously worked at Misys Plc and IBM. The appointment of Microsoft’s new CEO is one of the most closely watched developments in the technology industry, since it will have a direct impact on the direction Microsoft takes in the future.

BlackBerry Reportedly Getting A New Lease On Life

BlackBerry Reportedly Getting A New Lease On Life

Last month BlackBerry announced the formation of a Special Committee to probe strategic alternatives, these alternatives include an outright sale of the company, apart from any possible partnerships and alliances. It has been rumored a few times that there’s not enough interest in the market for BlackBerry as a whole, many believe it might be broken up into parts and then sold. The company just might be getting a new lease on life, courtesy of Prem Watsa, affectionately known as Canada’s Warren Buffett.

According to a new report by The Sunday Times, Watsa, who is the chairman of Fairfax Financial Holdings, is assembling billions of dollars in a resuce bid for BlackBerry. He reportedly has backing from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. The company’s shares rallied after the news broke, up almost 3 percent to $11.16. Fairfax Financial Holdings is actually BlackBerry’s largest shareholder, it holds a 10 percent stake in the company. Watsa was previously on the company’s board as well, he resigned in August after the formation of the special committee was announced, citing a conflict of interest. BlackBerry has not issued a comment on this as yet, there haven’t been any reports about interest from other buyers. It has been rumored that Microsoft is also keeping an eye on the ailing Canadian smartphone manufacturer.
