Intel Could Be Looking To Let Entire PR Team Go For Drastic Image Change [Rumor]Intel’s IDF conference is coming up in the next couple of weeks and it seems that the company is hoping to unveil a new side to them, to the extent where rumor has it that the company could let its entire PR team go in favor of a new PR team that will help turn the company’s image around into something more favorable. This is according to a source who spoke to the folks at TechEye.net where they were quoted as saying, “Tightening up the budget is the motto on the marketing side. The old timers are all gone and we are on track to get back our mojo on mobile. The head of PR will be changed, and then it will ‘waterfall’. Brian wants ‘open books’.” (more…)

Hulu And Lionsgate Team Up To Produce A New Original Series

Hulu And Lionsgate Team Up To Produce A New Original Series

Over the last couple of years we’ve gradually seen the competition for original Web streaming content grow. Netflix and its creations are a prime example, it backed House of Cards which turned out to be a major hit, bagging 14 Emmy nominations. Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black is doing well too. Amazon is also creating original content, it recently released a handful of pilots and allowed users to vote which of them they would want to be turned into a series. Hulu, another online video streaming service, announced today that it has teamed up Lionsgate Television to produce a new 10 episode series called Deadbeat.

Lionsgate Television is the studio behind hits such as Nurse Jackie and Mad Men, it plans to distribute the series internationally once it releases. The series is a comedy about a medium who helps ghosts in New York, it is scheduled for Hulu’s 2014 lineup. Deadbeat has been created by Cody Heller and Brett Konner of The Inbetweeners fame. The director’s chair will be occupied by Troy Miller, known for his work on Flight of the Conchords and Arrested Development, which Netflix picked up for a fourth season. Deadbeat is expected to go in production this fall, it will become available on Hulu and Hulu Plus in the U.S. next year.

3D Hubs Shows 3D Printers Available In Your Locality

3D Hubs Shows 3D Printers Available In Your Locality

3D printing has seen a significant rise in its popularity, though they’re not as common as your average printer. The main reason behind this is that 3D printers are expensive, an average unit might cost over $1,000. So even though everyone would like to use it, they won’t be able to because of the evident problem. 3D Hubs is a new service that fixes this issue to an extent. The service will display 3D printers that are available in your locality, you can upload your design and the owner can print it out. You can then meet the owner, pay a fee and pick up the printed object.

The service has been publicly launched today. Once users upload their design, they can choose the nearest 3D printer from an interactive map. The owner of the printer gets to work on a new project and make money as well. A “hub” is only unlocked once a specific number of printers are listed. For European cities, 10 3D printers must be listed before that particular city can be unlocked. For other locations, the magic number sits at 20. Cities unlocked so far include London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp and Copenhagen. Give the fact that 3D Hubs was launched today, it might take some time before your city gets unlocked. Broadcom WICED Platform Gets WiFi-Direct To Connect Wearable Devices And Smart Appliances

Broadcom WICED Platform Gets WiFi Direct To Connect Wearable Devices And Smart Appliances
Broadcom has just announced the addition of WiFi-Direct into the WICED platform. This is a critical step since many devices that would be considered part of “the Internet of things” are in fact at home, or at a fixed-location where WiFi is available. Bluetooth (BT) simply doesn’t offer the bandwidth that WiFi is capable of, and it can frankly be painful to pair BT devices together. fortunately, NFC has made this much better as of late. WICED now supports all major wireless protocols, with the exception of 3G/4G since that is not really battery-life friendly. (more…)

Babbage Pi-Powered Teddy Bear Takes To The Skies

Babbage Pi Powered Teddy Bear Takes To The SkiesWhat did you think of the movie “Ted”? I know that some parents actually thought that this was a movie that they could treat their little ones to, only to find out that the teddy bear is nothing like what they originally envisaged, being foul mouthed and all. Well, what you see above is a giant leap not only for mankind, but for teddy bears all over the world – especially when Babbage the bear is Raspberry Pi-powered.

This particular Babbage teddy bear has managed to recreate Felix Baumgartner’s record-breaking skydive, where Mr. Baumgartner performed the highest ever freefall in October last year as he jumped from a balloon about 39km up in the sky. A teddy bear known as Babbage has replicated this attempt from a similar height, all after making its way to the heaves via a hydrogen-filled balloon. Sporting the Raspberry Pi computer within, Babbage has managed to transmit his position as well as stills and video of his flight and descent. This is definitely the start of many other potential projects, don’t you think so? Most importantly, it does not require humans to risk life and limb in order to bring such an adrenaline pumping experience to the masses.

EVO ONE Hopes To Improve Your Basketball Game

EVO ONE Hopes To Improve Your Basketball GameIf basketball is your game of choice but you think you could stand to use some improvement, why not let technology help, right? Of course there’s the saying that practice makes perfect, but with the EVO ONE, you will now be able to get some feedback on your game even if you don’t have any coaches or peers around. So what is the EVO ONE? Well as you can see in the photo above, the EVO ONE is basically a sensor that is inserted into a specially made basketball.  Thanks to a built-in gyroscope, the sensor will be able to detect things such as backspin and will even emit a whistle when the ball is shot “correctly”, allowing players to identify when they have made a good shot so that they will be able to recreate it.

Of course there’s no guarantee that the EVO ONE will make you the next NBA superstar, but for those looking to correct their free throws and accuracy, we don’t see why the EVO ONE can’t help with that. As for the ball itself, it is standard weight and size, meaning that you will be able to use it on the courts and hoops with no issue. As it stands the EVO ONE is a Kickstarter project looking for funding and is about $18,000 into its $45,000 goal at this time of posting. If you’d like to learn more or help fund the project, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.

Steve Ballmer’s Retirement Announcement Sees Spike In Microsoft Stock

Steve Ballmer’s Retirement Announcement Sees Spike In Microsoft StockNormally, the head of a particularly large company who steps down due to retirement (or unexpectedly through a death) will sometimes result in the stock of the company (if it is public listed, of course) dropping – in a drastic fall at times, too, but in the case of Steve Ballmer’s retirement announcement, it proved to be quite the positive catalyst to get Microsoft’s stock going – right after the announcement at approximately 9:25am, Microsoft’s share price did not inch upwards, but rather, it surged forward by more than 9%. This is a surefire sign that investors cannot wait for Ballmer to step down, as they probably feel that a new head over at Microsoft could help the company navigate through some difficult times ahead.

It remains to be seen just who will the next Microsoft CEO be, an you can be sure that investors will keep a close eye as well as their ears to the ground. Regardless, it is not going to be easy for the person who steps into the shoes of Microsoft, and will we get another Marissa Mayer aboard? Do you have any recommendations as to who would be the next CEO of Microsoft to lead the company into the middle of the second decade of the 21st century?

Microsoft Alleged Bribery Probe Extends To Russia And Pakistan

Microsoft Alleged Bribery Probe Extends To Russia And Pakistan

It was reported back in March that Microsoft was being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice over claims of bribery in foreign countries. Back then it was claimed that Microsoft’s partners had allegedly bribed government officials in foreign countries to win software contracts, it was also reportedly being probed over relationships with certain resellers and consultants in China, Italy and Romania. The claims were thought to have been made by an ex-Microsoft employee based in China. The Wall Street Journal reports today that Microsoft’s business partners based in Pakistan and Russia are now being investigated over these very claims.

The report says that an anonymous tipster told Microsoft that its partners in Russia were allegedly offering kickbacks to executives of a state-owned company for securing a deal. It further claims that a tipster in Pakistan alleged that Microsoft had authorized a consulting firm to pay for a government official’s trip to Egypt with his wife, just to win a tender. Microsoft hasn’t released any comment on the investigation, but has said that it takes all allegations seriously. Both the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Justice have not yet commented on the progress of this investigation.
