Dreamcade Kegerator Pro 60 Is The Gamer’s Perfect Companion

Dreamcade Kegerator Pro 60 Is The Gamer’s Perfect CompanionHave you ever heard of Dream Arcades before? They are the home arcade cabinet maker who has come up with a solution for those who feel that there is nothing quite like beer to go along with your gaming sessions, so why not build in a beer keg into an arcade cabinet itself? That is what their latest product, the Dreamcade Kegerator Pro 60, is all about – which means you can continue gaming during those short breaks between an arcade game to swig down some of the cold nectar of the gods.

The Dreamcade Kegerator Pro 60 will sport a 60” High Definition display alongside over 140 pre-loaded classic arcade games to get you started. Within the Kegerator Pro 60, you will find a built-in fridge and a trio of taps, which makes it a snap to refill your frosty beverage of choice in a jiffy. Not only that, the cabinet itself will also come with a pair of drink holders that are located on each side of the cabinet, just in case you need a place to stash away your “lucky” pint glass. Hey, there are still superstitious people around, no? Of course, such luxury is not for everyone since the asking price for the Kegerator Pro 60 stands at $4,999 a pop, although those who are on a budget can always settle for the more affordable 29” model.

Vine Achieves 40 Million Registered Users Milestone

Vine Achieves 40 Million Registered Users MilestoneTwitter’s Vine video sharing service has just achieved yet another notable milestone – they managed to hit the fabled 40 million registered users mark, definitely an achievement worth trumpeting about, considering how the number of registered users it had earlier this year in June (just a couple of months or so ago) stood at a relatively paltry 13 million. Of course, statistics can be massaged and interpreted in various manners, but that is not to detract away from this 40 million accomplishment for the Vine team, as it has been speculated that the huge surge in registered users had something to do with an Android-powered version of the app.

Not only that, you can have a gazillion registered users, but how many of them are actually active? That is the question to ask if you want to know the actual popularity level of a particular service. Earlier in June, MarketingLand check out Topsy analytics, where they noted that the number of Vine shares dropped by a dramatic amount on June 20th, which happened to be the same day that Instagram rolled out their rival video service. It seems that Instagram is still leading the pack today, where it has approximately half a dozen more “tweets” per day compared to Vine, although one also ought to take into consideration that Instagram does offer photo sharing services in addition to video.

Delaware Has World’s Tallest Lego Tower

One of the ways to be extremely famous would be to break a world record, or attempt something so audacious (more often than not to the risk of your life and limb), that no one else would have even thought of it before. Well, for the Red Clay School District, Monday evening proved to be an extremely memorable one as the world’s tallest Lego tower was unveiled. This particular Lego tower took months to complete, in addition to a fair number of days of painstaking engineering to ensure that this particular Lego tower will remain upright for quite some time. The number of Lego bricks required to prop the tower up numbered at over 500,000 units, and the entire shebang is definitely not light – we are talking about approximately 1,000 kilograms worth of Lego bricks, all of them painstakingly stacked up to exactly 112 feet, 11.75” in height.

That would make it taller than 10 stories in height, which in turn has made it the officially tallest structure which is made of interlocking toy bricks ever constructed – and it has been verified by the Guinness Book of World Records. What are some of the Lego projects that you think should be turned into a world record breaking feat?

Virtual Receptionist ‘Hologram’ Presented By UK Government Office

Virtual Receptionist ‘Hologram’ Presented By UK Government OfficeHolograms are an extremely interesting segment of technology which could be pursued further for more practical applications in real life, and while we have seen our fair share of holograms in science fiction movies, the real world is still lagging behind in such technology. However, advances have been made in the past, and now, a branch of the U.K. government intends to streamline select customer service functions, and have decided to introduce an automated visual assistant that can be considered to be a hologram of sorts. This ‘hologram’ is actually a digital assistant that is represented by an actress on a screen, and has been programmed to be accompanied by a set menu of answers in anticipation of various prompts.

I guess you can call this the first step to what Jor-El’s lifelike hologram was to Kal-El in Man of Steel. The virtual assistant happens to be projected on a “see-through screen”, although revealed images point otherwise – as the image has been spotted to appear on a normal flatscreen display. Voice prompts and touch screen functionality would enable visitors to make their choice from a range of menus as they attempt to find their way around the government facility. Do you prefer your holograms to come in the male or female gender, or it does not matter to you?

Mechanic Stole $210,000 From Rigged Parking Meters

Mechanic Stole $210,000 From Rigged Parking MetersThere is an old Malay proverb that goes something like this after translation – no matter how high up a squirrel scurries, it will still fall down to the earth eventually. I guess that would be the most apt way of describing parking meter mechanic James Bagarozzo who has gotten away with approximately 10,000 pounds (in weight, not the British currency) worth of quarters when he was working as a parking meter mechanic in Buffalo, New York. Of course, when a thief gets careless, greedy, or both, that is more often than not the time when he gets caught.

Rewinding the clock all the way back to 2003, Bagarozzo as well as his accomplice Lawrence Charles actually rigged old machines that did not come with separate coin canisters to drop quarters into, allowing him to access them later, turning it into his personal piggy bank. So far, they have looted approximately $200,000 for themselves, which meant the city was deprived of at least that much revenue before their indiscretion was discovered. The parking commissioner realized that the newer, credit card-operated machines actually had a higher amount of revenue compared to the old school ones, leading to a further investigation before action was taken against the two suspects. Ever since the arrests were made, revenue actually leapfrogged by at least $500,000 annually. Crime does not pay, people! This just goes to show how technology, when implemented properly, will help make things more efficient and secure.

High Speed In-Flight Internet Possible By Next Year

High Speed In Flight Internet Possible By Next YearIn-flight Internet has been around for some years already, but not all flights still offer this particular service. Not only that, you could more or less say that the in-flight Wi-Fi might not be fast enough to stream video content from sites including Netflix and the BBC’s iPlayer, but all of that might probably change by the time 2014 rolls around. According to communications regulator Ofcom, they are proposing to license a new satellite system for aircraft – as well as ships and trains, of course. Earth Stations on Mobile Platforms (ESOMPs) is capable of delivering connections up to 10 times faster compared to what one is can experience at the moment.

Britain’s airlines have yet to indicate whether they would sign up for this particular technology or not, although British Airways’ in-flight entertainment and technology manager, Richard D’Cruze, claimed that the airline was “closely monitoring developments in the connectivity market in both the satellite and direct air-to-ground technology areas”. Ofcom did mention that it has been working alongside its European counterparts for the past couple of years, where they will include France, Germany and Luxembourg, who happen to be in the process of piecing together their own regulations. I am quite sure that everyone would not mind having faster Internet many miles up in the air, no?

Pixy Brings Machine Vision To Robot World

Pixy Brings Machine Vision To Robot WorldJust what is the Pixy? It happens to be a tiny camera that measures roughly half the size of a business card is capable of detecting objects which you have “trained” it to detect. This particular form of “training” is very different from Jedi training, as it is done thanks to holding the object located in front of Pixy’s lens and pressing a button. Pixy would then try to look for objects that sport similar color signatures via a dedicated dual-core processor which is capable of processing images at 50 frames per second. Pixy will then send its findings that will comprise of the sizes and locations of all detected objects, where that can be accomplished through a variety of interfaces such as UART serial, SPI, I2C, digital or analog I/O.

Pixy is capable of detecting hundreds of objects from seven different color signatures. It is right now a Kickstarter campaign, where it will be able to be yours as long as you contribute a minimum of $59. Pixy happens to be a partnership between Carnegie Mellon University and a small Austin-based company that call themselves Charmed Labs. As Pixy is powered by its own processor, it will not bog down the Arduino’s CPU with processing images, so one should not experience too many performance issues.

Samsung Launches After-School Junior Software Academy In Korea

Samsung Launches After School Junior Software Academy In Korea

Samsung announced today that it is launching a new project called Junior Software Academy in South Korea. Under this project, the Korean giant plans to give software lessons to 10,000 students of ages between 11 and 17. Students will be able to attend these lessons after school or during the weekends. Samsung believes that this project will help children learn basic software technologies and will help them in becoming “fresh sprouts of the software industry.”

These software classes will be offered to students at 500 junior and elementary schools in Korea. Samsung will also conduct various fun programs to capture the juniors’ attentions. One such program is the Junior Software Academy Camp which was held last week. Children were given the chance to learn software languages used in robots. Most children love robots, for them activities such as these are likely to be fun learning experiences. The company says that it is developing tailored teaching materials in software to fit the level of children and teenagers. It will also hold software competitions to pit students against each other. The project may shape the future of a lot of these children, who may someday become successful as well as influential figures in the global software industry.
