Lego Mindstorms EV3 Unveiled

Lego Mindstorms EV3 UnveiledLego continues to deliver when it comes to their Mindstorms kit, and the latest one is known as the Lego Mindstorms EV3 – which will include construction materials such as studs, beams, girders and wheels which will then be used to construct a robot. Just when you thought that Lego was all about bricks, don’t be surprised to find out that the only brick which you will be able to discover here would be the robot’s very own programmable brain. This new Lego Mindstorms EV3 will hit the markets later this September 1st at most major retailers, where it will retail for $350 a pop.

Truth be told, Mindstorms does have its fair share of community of hackers and hobbyists, and the Lego Mindstorms EV3 would continue to keep this particular community happy. There will be over 550 pieces of the Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit, so it might seem a wee bit more daunting at first, considering how it is meant for kids who are aged 10 and above. At least there are printed step-by-step instructions as well as color-coded pieces that ensure the robot known as TRACK3R is a whole lot easier. When you have completed assembling the TRACK3R, it is capable of accomplishing simple pre-programmed missions such as turning in a circle. According to Lego, the first robot might take approximately an hour to complete.

Hizamakura Lap Pillow Is Absolutely Weird

Hizamakura Lap Pillow Is Absolutely WeirdNow, there have been some pretty weird pillows that we have seen in the past, and the Ostrich Pillow is definitely one of them that managed to make the jump from being an idea to a successful Kickstarter project. Now only that, Capcom too, recently introduced a special edition Blood Pillow that ought to freak out those who suffer from hemophobia. Apart from that, we have also seen a dictionary desk pillow that looks extremely comfortable to catch some forty winks on thanks to its size. Trust the Japanese to come up with the zany Hizamakura Lap Pillow, which is a foam pillow that comes in the shape of a life-sized woman’s lap and legs.

Right now, it is sold out at the Japan Trend Shop in the Tokyo and Narita International airports, and somehow I am not too surprised to hear that. The Hizamakura Lap Pillow happens to be an accessory which looks like the kneeling, mini skirt wearing lap of a woman, and it was the brainchild of the Trane Corporation in the mid 2000’s, where it was then advertised as a homesickness-healing accessory. If only it came with its own built-in warmer, now that would make it all the more realistic.

Artificial Ear Sculpture “Listens” To Grievances Of South Korean Citizens

Artificial Ear Sculpture “Listens” To Grievances Of South Korean CitizensNow here is a piece of artistic sculpture that will definitely do more than just sit pretty in view of the general public – the artificial ear sculpture by artist Yang Soo-in, who happens to be backed by an organization known as Lifethings. This particular sculpture has been shaped to resemble that of a large ear, and it can be found right outside the City Hall in Seoul. The whole idea of this particular sculpture is to convey a message to the people that Mayor Park Won-soon and his administration are more than willing to listen to the people.

The entire shape is not there just for novelty purposes, since speaking into the “ear” would see a recording device capture everything that was said, before the recording is played over speakers located at a citizens’ affairs bureau that lays right smack in the basement of City Hall. Motion sensors will be able to know just how long folks are standing under the speakers to determine its playback time. I must say, this is definitely one of the more interesting pieces of art that I have come across, and to see it meld with the world of technology is something else altogether.

3D Model Hyperloop Transport System Revealed

3D Model Hyperloop Transport System RevealedElon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, did unveil his plan for the Hyperloop transportation system earlier this month to mixed reaction. Of course, great ideas tend to share one thing in common – there will always be naysayers in the mix who claim that the plan cannot be implemented, while there will be another group who claim that such a plan is brilliant, although the latter tends to be a whole lot fewer in number than the former. Still, the Hyperloop transportation system deserves its fair share of attention, and a company known as WhiteClouds have come together to deliver a 3D printed model of Musk’s Hyperloop in just 24 hours, which depicts the efficiency of how 3D printing is able to assist us in actualizing theoretical ideas.

According to WhiteClouds CEO Jerry Ropelato who explained the reason behind this 3D model, he said that “as a company we’re really interested in technology, and I thought it would be fun and interesting to take what we do every day and make the Hyperloop concept into something real. This really demonstrates the possibilities 3D printing offers.” Do you personally think that the Hyperloop transport system is going to be a success, or will it not be economically viable? Google Patent Describes “Pay Per Gaze” Advertising

Google Patent Describes Pay Per Gaze AdvertisingThe other day we reported on a Google patent that through the use of Google Glass, would be able to know exactly what you’re looking at, which we’re sure can be kind of scary given the fuss that lawmakers and the public in general make over privacy these days. While we’re not sure what Google plans to do with that patent or if it will make its way into Google Glass in the future, the patent was further explored and according to new findings, it suggests that perhaps it could be used as a way for Google to get paid by advertisers. Google Chrome Could Be Getting Parental Controls

Google Chrome Could Be Getting Parental ControlsIf you’re a parent and you were hoping that Google’s Chrome browser for the computer would offer up a bit more features in terms of parental control, your wish could be granted because according to the latest Chrome developer build, it has been spotted that there are aspects of the feature that have already made their way into the browser, although they are not fully working yet. Basically through this feature, Chrome users will be able to set up multiple accounts on a single computer, none of which needs to be connected to a Google profile.

Similar to a Chrome browser tied to a Google profile, each of the accounts will have their own bookmarks and histories depending on its user, with some accounts that can be set up to oversee other accounts and choose what sort of websites they are allowed to visit, which could be a way for parents to prevent their kids from stumbling across adult websites, or for school teachers to prevent students from browsing 9gag whilst in class. No word on when Google will be rolling this feature out to the masses yet, but it clearly is in development which means that it could be a while before we see them.

NYC Makes Biggest Gun Bust In History Aided By YouTube Videos

NYC Makes Biggest Gun Bust In History Aided By YouTube Videos

Boasting or showing off online about your illegal activities is certainly a recipe for disaster. Take Cody Hall for example, the teenager who boasted about his reckless driving on Twitter, which ultimately led to a vehicular manslaughter charge against him to being upgraded to murder. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg today announced the biggest gun bust in the history of the city. Authorities arrested 19 people who were involved in selling more than 254 weapons illegally, only because an up and coming rapper thought it would be cool to upload videos featuring cash and firearms at a recording studio in Bed-Stuy to YouTube.

The gunrunners were bringing in guns from North and South Carolina on discount charter buses, the guns were filled in suitcases. Authorities were actually investigating this ring for over 10 months, one undercover office ever made a number of purchases such as a semi-automatic rifle that was concealed inside a suitcase. Matthew Best, the rapper mentioned above, also posted some pictures to Instagram that contained firearms. This evidence coupled with wiretaps led to authorities finally bringing down the ring. The 19 people arrested were indicted on numerous counts of conspiracy, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal sale of a firearm as well as other crimes. Nokia To Hold August 28th Event In Moscow, Russia

Nokia To Hold August 28th Event In Moscow, RussiaDoes anyone know what exactly is Nokia working on these days? Of course, we are pretty sure that they are going to continue with their investment in the Windows Phone platform from Microsoft, but there is more than meets the eye, too, as a number of Russian Windows Phone sites, WP7Forum.ru included, have already received an invitation for an August 28th event. This particular invite should be gleaned over in order to discover whether there are any clues as to what will roll out, but all that was depicted was this particular piano keyboard alongside the words “World Premier” and date written across.

While there has been talk of a new Windows RT tablet by the Finnish smartphone manufacturers, it is also not too far off the beaten path that the August 28th event will signal the launch of Nokia Music, or how about a keyboarded device as well? WP7Forum did point out that it would be rather strange to introduce an accessory as part of a “world premier” event, but then again, stranger things have happened in the past, have they not? What do you think Nokia has in store for the masses this coming August 28th?

Iron Man Cast Makes Us Want To Break All Of Our Bones For It

Iron Man Cast Makes Us Want To Break All Of Our Bones For ItIt’s not uncommon for kids to get a broken bone at some point in their life as they live a dangerous life between snacks, multiplayer sessions of Call of Duty and nap time. Having your friends sign your cast is something we’ve all grown up doing, but that trend will soon be over if something like the cast we’re featuring in this story takes off.

Instead of asking your friends and current crush to show you sympathy by signing your cast, you can decide to take life by the horns and make your cast the most badass one anyone has ever seen by drawing on it so it looks like a portion of Iron Man‘s arm. Reddit user Caligineus decided the world needed to see his friend’s hard work, and as you’d expect, the submission became an instant hit on the site.

As you can see from the image, there’s some serious detail behind the drawing, which of course features Iron Man’s Pulse Laser that shoots out from the palm of his hand. It’s going to be a shame when the doctor cuts the cast off when her arm fully heals, or maybe this person can decide to live life with a cast on since this is one awesome-looking cast.

Prankster Places Useless PlasticBox 1.2 In Best Buy Stores

Prankster Places Useless PlasticBox 1.2 In Best Buy StoresThey say that laughter is the best medicine, but humor in its numerous forms, can be pretty subjective depending on the context of the situation as well as the people involved. For folks who happen to reside in the Los Angeles area and are more often than not early adopters of new technology, then there is a chance that you would be part of the target audience for the prankster-artist who goes by the moniker “Plastic Jesus”. In fact, it was revealed that this Plastic Jesus entered several Best Buy store locations in LA, before placing his very own “gadget” on display beside actual products on sale, complete with a product description to boot.

The “device” in question? “Useless PlasticBox 1.2″ whose name is pretty much self explanatory, so if you were looking for something else out there, then trust me, you would be sorely disappointed. “Plastic Jesus” did include a label which resembled a genuine one from Best Buy, but if you were to take the time to read that label, you would realize that the Useless PlasticBox 1.2 was just “Another gadget that you don’t really need.” although it did sport a $99.99 price tag with no warranty. It seems that all of the fake gadgets have since been removed, but not before staying on Best Buy store shelves for five days or so.
