Al-Qaeda Could Have Invented Explosive Clothing

Al Qaeda Could Have Invented Explosive ClothingWhen it comes to technology and clothing, you can either go offensive or on the defensive. The latter would involve the likes of an invisibility cloak, something that has been worked on for quite some time now with mixed results. If you were to go for the jugular, however, US officials now have a new reason to fear as word has it that explosive clothing might be the next threat. Apparently, senior government officials were reported to have heard about the potential of this new threat concerning clothes that have been dipped in liquid explosives, and these literally explosive clothes will be undetectable by existing security measures.

And who is the person to be credited with this nefarious invention? The technique is allegedly linked to Ibrahim al-Asiri, whom many believe is also the same person behind the “body bombs.” Al-Asiri is a member of an al-Qaeda affiliate in the Arabian Peninsula, and happens to be on the top 25 list of people named by the Yemeni government today as the country’s top terrorists. He also happens to have a $23,000 bounty on his head should anyone be able to provide information which could lead to his arrest.

Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri is notorious for working on the first underwear bomb that he and a couple of others placed within printer cartridges, shipping them to the US via cargo planes in 2010. Hopefully the government scientists will be able to come up with a countermeasure for this potentially deadly bomb.

LEGO Bricks Used To “Draw” Popular Characters

LEGO Bricks Used To “Draw” Popular CharactersHave you heard of Chris McVeigh before? Well, he happens to be an author, illustrator, and photographer, all rolled into one, and even better is his latest effort that will see famous characters from the universes of Star Wars, Transformers, and Futurama being brought to life with the help of LEGO – which would once again underline the unique manner where such building blocks that used to remain under the domain of kids’ toys being used in such a creative way, opening up new worlds of possibilities along the way.

McVeigh used the LEGO.com Digital Designer, which is a free consumer CAD tool that enables him to bring his pieces to life. According to McVeigh, he gained inspiration to work in this direction after a friend decided to work on 4×6 marker sketches of popular characters. After mulling over the possibilities, McVeigh himself sketched Wolverine using nothing but LEGO pieces instead of a pen. How else would you make use of LEGO pieces in an artistic manner, and do you think that such attempts will eventually end up in a museum of modern art somewhere around the world?

Grizzly 2.0 3D Printed Rifle Remains Intact After Firing

I am not quite sure whether it is cause to be concerned or not, but when you hear that the Grizzly 3D printed rifle which was fired some weeks ago, will we see more and more “homebrew” firearms flood the market, especially when 3D printing technology becomes more affordable as well as accessible to the masses? Apparently, in the video above, you will see the Grizzly 2.0 3D printed rifle being tested yet again, and this time around, unlike the first, it did not break after the first shot was fired. This is definitely cause for concern, don’t you think so?

The thing is, the Grizzly 2.0 3D printed rifle did crack eventually, but this happened after 14 shots were fired from the .22 caliber rifle . Well, at least it means that printed firearms are not reliable at all if it were to be a permanent armament solution, but this does not mean that those with more malicious intentions might want to use it as a fire-and-forget weapon. Having said that, I do wonder how the 3D printed Liberator gun will hold up in the long run.

Leo Messi Dons An Adidas LED Suit

We have seen the world of fashion and technology cross paths a fair number of times in the past, such as Rihanna’s LED dress that lit up her “Last Girl on Earth” tour, or how about LED kinetic hats that are definitely something worth checking out if you like to be in the center of attention all the time? Well, Lionel Messi of Argentina (and of course, FC Barcelona), whom many tout to be the best footballer on earth at the moment, has decided to suit up in a special LED suit at the behest of Adidas, and he weaved his “magic” in the video which was shot at 1,000 frames per second using a Phantom camera.

This is not just a way for Messi fulfilling his contract obligations, and neither is it another “job” for him to do, but rather, it is meant to promote Messi’s latest shoe. Still, the end result of this particularly mesmerizing video is something that would make you feel as though you did not waste any time in your life watching that video, unlike some other YouTube videos out there. Needless to say, purchasing Messi’s latest football boots are not going to make you play like him automatically.

Amazon’s Founder Jeff Bezos To Purchase The Washington Post

Amazon’s Founder Jeff Bezos To Purchase The Washington PostWhat do you do when you have plenty of money sitting in the bank? Why, you do your best to preserve as well as grow your wealth, of course. Word has it that Amazon.com’s founder, billionaire Jeff Bezos, will be purchasing The Washington Post for $250 million. Donald E. Graham, chairman and chief executive of The Washington Post Company, who also happens to be the third generation of the Graham family to helm the paper, informed his staff concerning the sale to Jeff Bezos this afternoon.

Mr. Graham addressed his staff, saying, “I, along with Katharine Weymouth and our board of directors, decided to sell only after years of familiar newspaper-industry challenges made us wonder if there might be another owner who would be better for the Post (after a transaction that would be in the best interest of our shareholders).”

It will be interesting to see how a technopreneur like Jeff is going to bring The Washington Post to new heights. After all, The Washington Post has been described to be one of the crown jewels in the newspaper world, and to see it enter uncharted territory in the hands of Bezos is an exciting and challenging ride.

MakeupText App Wins Your Ex Back For You

MakeupText App Wins Your Ex Back For You

Last week we covered an app called BreakupText. It does exactly what the name implies. The app features tailored solutions for both men and women who want to break up with their significant other over a text message, apparently that’s a thing these days. So if you’ve used that app to let someone go and find yourself regretting it, don’t worry, the very same developers have come up with the answer to your problem. Introducing MakeupText, the app that wins back your ex for you.

Just like its sinister counterpart, the app comes with tailored solutions for both men and women. You can use this app to create a heartfelt and deep text message which can then be sent to the person you want back. The app presents a couple of interesting options that serve as explanations. You can choose to say that “something shiny caught my eye,” be blatantly honest by affirming that “I lost interest,” or you can go the humorous way and choose to tell them that you were “kidnapped by Russians.” MakeupText for iOS is available free for a limited time, whereas its counterpart costs $0.99.

Netflix User Profiles Don’t Work With Windows Media Center Plugin

Netflix User Profiles Dont Work With Windows Media Center Plugin

Last month Netflix announced that this summer it would launch individual user profiles for accounts. Even though a Netflix subscription costs just $8 per month, many subscribers share their accounts with either their friends or family members. Having one single profile would mean that Netflix would offer recommendations and suggestions based on everyone’s viewing habits. User profiles allow every individual sharing an account to have their own queues and recommendations. Unfortunately, the feature doesn’t work with Windows Media Center plugin.

It was only a few days ago that Netflix formally announced the roll out of user profiles. The roll out hasn’t been completed as yet, it is likely to take a couple of weeks. As per the posts on The Green Button forums,  Netflix will only stream over Media Center if all individual profiles are closed, except the main one. Users are able to see a list of their profiles, but as soon as they select an individual profile, an error message is displayed. It remains to be seen when this issue will be fixed, Netflix hasn’t made a statement as yet.

We’ve talked about the stem cell hamburger in the past and have even reported on its ground-breaking taste test which took place today where University of Maastrict researcher Mark Post would allow a number of guests to wrap their mouths around this artificially engineered meat. Samsung Loses $1bn In Market Value Following Presidential Veto On ITC Ban

Samsung Loses $1bn In Market Value Following Presidential Veto On ITC BanFor those who might have been following the news, you might have heard that the Obama Administration decided to overturn the upcoming ITC ban on some of Apple’s products that included that iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 2 3G. Naturally Samsung was not too thrilled about it and expressed their disappointment in the matter. However it turns out that being disappointed was only the tip of the iceberg because it seems that the ban has had much larger implications that Samsung would have liked.

According to a report (via The Wall Street Journal), over in Korea Samsung’s share price dropped on the Korean exchange, and this dip was estimated to have cost Samsung more than $1 billion in market value. The reason behind the dip was due to investors who were concerned that Samsung’s patent rights might be in jeopardy of sorts due to the ITC ban being overturned. Interestingly enough while several US Senators expressed their own concern on how the ban could set a precedent in which companies could abuse their patents, this overturn could also set a precedent in which companies may no longer feel that their intellectual property is protected legally.
