Lenovo Spends $100 Million Acquiring New Patents And Licenses

Lenovo Spends $100 Million Acquiring New Patents And LicensesNot too long ago, Lenovo announced their plans to acquire Motorola Mobility from Google. Many probably assumed they’d be getting everything, but that really isn’t the case. In fact Google will still be holding onto some of the patents of Motorola Mobility as well as Motorola’s Advanced Technology and Projects Group, the group responsible for Project Ara.

What this means is that if Lenovo is hoping to leverage their acquisition of Motorola Mobility to become a serious player in the smartphone industry, they’ve got to step things up and sure enough that’s what they have done. (more…)

Steve Jobs Movie Cast May Include Christian Bale In The Lead

This highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie is going to be based on the Apple legend’s official biography written by Walter Isaacson. Ever since its rights were acquired a couple of years back there has been much speculation about who will portray Steve Jobs. A recent Jobs biopic, starring Ashton Kutcher in the lead, was slammed by critics and failed to resonate with viewers. All eyes are on the second biopic, and most of us find solace in the fact that its being written by Aaron Sorkin. According to latest reports, Christian Bale might be cast to play Steve Jobs.

Irish Funeral Home Plans To Stream Funeral Proceedings

Irish Funeral Home Plans To Stream Funeral ProceedingsFunerals are typically a very somber and sad affair, and for the most part they’re pretty low-tech. After all most of the time it just involves relatives and friends coming together to say the final farewell before the casket is lowered into the ground or before it is cremated.

However an Irish company has decided to make funerals a slightly more hi-tech affair by offering the ability to stream funerals onto the internet as part of the company’s new business venture. Wait, isn’t this a little morbid not to mention an invasion of privacy for mourners who wish to grieve in private? (more…)

And The Winners Of The iPod Nano Giveaway Are….

This article was written on August 27, 2006 by CyberNet.

Thanks to all those who participated in our iPod Nano Giveaway sponsored by GotVoice. We’ve read through the entries and have come up with a first place winner to receive an iPod Nano as well as a runner-up to receive 3 months of GotVoice Premium service. We wanted to hear about the craziest voicemail you received and this is what we got….

1st Place Winner: Entry submitted by Jason

“I got a voicemail about 2 years ago(which i still have) that goes like this:

“Hey Jason we stole a golf cart from the University golf course and drove it back to Minneapolis. We were going to bring it by, but Rob wanted food so we took it though the McDonalds drive through. A cop arrested me and ‘Mondo but Rob ran. If he comes home tell him to put my McDonalds in the fridge, I’ll be back in the morning.”

“If anyone wants to know the golf course and where we were are about 7-8 miles away, and yes they used the bus expressway between both campuses to traverse from St Paul”

Runner-Up : Entry submitted by Ian

“Weirdest voicemail ever would have to be the one I got from a seemingly drunk Russian guy who kept talking about his lunch meats.”

“He literally called, talked like he knew me AND that I was actually on the phone with him. He’d just start off the voicemail with the following, and think Russian accent AND drunkness: “yeah so you got the pastrami? good. i’ll be dur to pick it up laters.”

“Best part of this whole voicemail is that its the honest to god truth! You can’t make this stuff up!”

We hope to do more contests in the future! We’re working on ironing out details to open it up to all of our international readers who were excluded from this contest. Again, a big thanks to all who participated and congratulations to Jason and Ian.

NSA Can Record ‘100%’ Of A Foreign Country’s Phone Calls

NSA Can Record ‘100%’ Of A Foreign Country’s Phone CallsLet’s just put it this way, the National Security Agency, or NSA for short, has not exactly been the darling government organization to date. Unfortunately for us, the ‘Big Brother’ role that the NSA plays has raised the ire of many a citizen due to privacy issues. In fact, it has been reported that the NSA has already developed a surveillance system which is capable of recording “100 percent” of a foreign country’s telephone calls. This would prove to be a unique engineering triumph on the proverbial (and real) battlefield, as it allows the NSA to rewind and review conversations for up to a month since these conversations happened.

Peanuts 3D Set To Grace The Silver Screen In 2015

It has been over three decades that Snoopy and the rest of the dysfunctional Peanuts gang have appeared on the silver screen, but this fact has not stopped the Peanuts ensemble to go against the grain in 2014. Peanuts, a comic strip created by the late Charles Schulz, has staying power even until today thanks to newspaper syndication, MetLife commercials, reruns of classic TV specials (A Charlie Brown Christmas) and a viral video once in a while. Throughout all these, Charlie Brown, everyone’s favorite beagle Snoopy, and gang have been depicted in a 2D environment, but the new Peanuts film that is tipped for a 2015 release from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios would arrive in 3D goodness.
